bachamn Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 he is dirty in the trailer: fixed that for you Quote
Fives Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I agree with everything Deathleech said, and I'll build on from that. Some people were discussing the popularity of Star Wars in comparison to some other themes such as Indiana Jones or Harry Potter. Apparently, and particularly in the case of Indy, the designers have a tremendously more difficult time creating sets based on location- and character-driven stories and scenes. With Star Wars, its easy to make a fun toy based on a ship or other vehicle, and include characters that generally make sense along with that vehicle. However, when the sets have to be based more around locations and such, its harder to decide how much of the location should be included, and what needs to be there to make it recognizable, while still staying within the parameters of the rules (price, piece count, minifigs etc.). When you take all of this into account, LEGO really has done a fabulous job with this theme. Sure, some of the sets have felt a little lacklustre (thank goodness for MOCing), but overall we've had a fantastic go of it, especially for the Hobbit. The only real misstep I'd say LEGO has made is not making ANY Gondor sets. Gondor is just such a vital part of the story, so to ignore it (for whatever reason they did) is a crying shame. But alas life is imperfect. Quote
Seaber Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I hadn't noticed it until just now, but there isn't a Gandalf with this wave. Obviously, this is good as it means that we won't get another repeated figure, but could it mean he could be in a D2C set later? Probably not, as it's likely the Dol Guldur set will be available with him in it, as well as the Wizard Battle set. I went into my local Lego store today for the first time in months, and they had Council of Elrond, Battle of the Black Gate and Pirate Ship Ambush all at 50% off. It looked like they had cleared the stockroom too, there were about 20-30 kits there. I guess Wizard Battle is small enough and cheap enough they didn't feel the need to get rid of it. But still, he has been in every wave so far, and it would have been nice to see the other six Dwarves and Thranduil get their BO5A outfits alongside Bilbo, Tauriel, Bard, Thorin, Balin, Dwalin, Kili and Fili. So here's hoping eh? (although, realistically, probably not) Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Apparently, the s@h bonus for October will be an ice skating scene (at least according to brickfanatics.co.uk), so yeah, there goes our only chance of ever getting Bolg Hardly a surprise, I know Quote
legofreak86 Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 We could get one in November or December to promote the movie. But that's probably wishful thinking. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 We could get one in November or December to promote the movie. But that's probably wishful thinking. Yeah, it probably is The only time I can think of where TLG did something like that was the release of the Iron Patriot minifig. Instead of appearing in the Iron Man 3 sets as many hoped or expected it was later released as a preorder bonus for the game Thus the possibility is still there, but how likely is it? Quote
K-Nut Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 We could get one in November or December to promote the movie. But that's probably wishful thinking. True. Has Lego ever done a S@H bonus fig around the Holidays? The past few years I know they've done Winter Village expansion sets. Quote
Shuebmabow Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 What I don't understand is why it is a SKATING SCENE in OCTOBER.....? If not Hobbit related, something related to Halloween seems more fitting S@H for that month, does it not? Quote

If not Hobbit related, something related to Halloween seems more fitting S@H for that month, does it not? Usually they release the annual Winter Village set in October so you can still get it in time for Christmas even if it's on back order (I've done that once or twice). This coincides with the release of that. I agree that a Hobbit bonus would make sense, but seeing as they've done this the past few years, I doubt they want to change it. Quote

Oh, I didn't know that that was released in October.. Haha I probably look really dumb. Now knowing that I can see why they chose winter over Hobbit for the S@H. That's not saying I'm happy about the decision, but it's more reasonable for them to promote their annual winter village.. Quote

BrickBob Studpants Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 True. Has Lego ever done a S@H bonus fig around the Holidays? The past few years I know they've done Winter Village expansion sets. The Clone Trooper Lieutenant (5001709) was given away last November (at least in Europe). There's no real pattern however since the amount of s@h promo figs has increased quite a bit over the last few years While it was pretty much restricted to Star Wars the first couple of years, Super Heroes (both Marvel and DC) and TMNT recently were also granted their respective promo figs. They were pretty much spread all over the year, except for the ones that were offered with the promotion of new movie-inspired sets in mind, especially 5000022 Hulk (Avengers) and 5001623 Jor-El (Man of Steel). Based on that, an October release would make the most sense @SMC: Thanks! That's great, now me may hope again (and get to see our hopes being crushed by reality ) Quote
TheLegoDr Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I wanted a Gandalf with the back hair attached to the wizard hat like in that video game promo material. I thought for sure that figure was coming, but nope. That's the only way I'd welcome another Gandalf. Quote
Jason7189 Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Sorry to ask this again, but does anyone have the pictures of the back of 79015 and 79016. Thanks in advance Quote

Faefrost Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 True. Has Lego ever done a S@H bonus fig around the Holidays? The past few years I know they've done Winter Village expansion sets. I would think that any Hobbit bonus fig would be January at best. The Hobbit movie comes out just before Christmas, so a week or so after that. I still don't think we would see Bolg in that role. Given how rarely we see middle Earth bonuses I would think a heroic character would be more likely should they do it. (So far we have Elrond, 2 or 3 Bilbo's and a retread Legolas polybag.) Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 (edited) I would rather have Bolg over another Gandalf P.S. Jason7189 I PMed you. Edited August 19, 2014 by Dr.Cogg Quote

kevkipo Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 You guys reckon Bard will come with a sword and a bow as the trailer has him wielding one maybe a gunmetal would look good like the witch king's. I defenitely think that fixed that for you Dirty? well at least i think he has some burns and scars from the Smaug Attack? You are not going to tell me he comes all clean and untouched out of that fight? Quote
SMC Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 (edited) I do think its a bit odd we have not had a lego shop spend over offer for the hobbit or LOTR, TMNT got one and I don't think that is as big btw I picked up a blue coat Bilbo now that it looks like that will be the only thing I am missing for both lines around £25 from Australia, I know its a lot but as these are the only lines where I will pick up everything I thought I would as a one off There are only 4 left and I can recommend the seller now I have one Edited August 19, 2014 by SMC Quote
Black Numenorean Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 yeah an ultimate Gandalf would have been good, he could have lead my Gandalf army Lol, i would say the same thing, ahahahha! I need another Gandalf, before the end of the wave, because i will be nostalgic Quote
