Mr Breden Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I'm really likng the sound of these sets so far, I don't mind the Battle of five armies being 60$ since I'm not a huge army builder anyway. Quote
Legoman123 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I really wanted more from Laketown . I was hoping we would get the Town Hall at least. Quote
Darth Punk Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) I assumed they were saying "windlass" - to quote from wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windlass): The windlass is an apparatus for moving heavy weights. (...) By the Late Middle Ages most European crossbows employed a windlass as a cocking mechanism, which helped to pull heavier crossbows, but were used in England as early as 1215. Now the apparatus from the film doesnt literally fit the definition, but after all, it is a heave crossbow, which would need a cocking mechanism to draw the "bowstring" to fire the heavy balck arrow, so I think its close enough... The windlass is the mechanism to,draw back the bow, not the name of the bow itself. You can also find a windlass on a sailboat to raise and lower the sails for larger boats and for the anchor. So it would be like referring to your sails as windlasses. Sounds like the Bo5A could be packed with lots of goodies. But at that price hopefully many multiples will not be required. I am interested to see the Lake town set, the bell tower could be nice and perhaps there will be another building as well. Edited January 26, 2014 by Darth Punk Quote
SandMirror38 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I imagine it's the bell tower ON TOP of the hall. Seeing as thats how it is in the movie... Quote

kevkipo Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 A BO5A second biggest set The biggest set is Erebor One of the smaller sets is Lake-town The smallest is Dol Guldur Seems like the best wave ever! Who can't wait till Wednesday? like everyone? Please Smaug be there, Be at the fair For us Tolkienites! Still on the Dain II train... im sure he will be covered. Choo Choo Also im thinking we must get a lot of dwarf soldiers (im a dwarf fan ) We got A LOT of elves We got Men soldiers (altough i want some Lake town soldiers) But what haven't we got? Dwarves! Only Thorin's company and Gimli! Lego if you are wise you give us Dwarf soldiers, or else after New York toy fair (After we'll see the final sets) you'll see the Lego Company headquarters lie in ashes < This is my baby dragon Smaug Quote
Alcarin Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Well I just hope BOFA set will have enough armies that I can justify buying 2 or even more.... a 60$ set should have atleast 5-7 figs! out of those atleast 3-4 generic! Quote
deskp Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Seems like the best wave ever! Who can't wait till Wednesday? like everyone? Please Smaug be there, Be at the fair. Don't get your hopes up, you might have to wait for new york toy fair, or later for any pictures at all. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) @Alcarin: I think 6-7 minifigs is not unrealistic, the similarly priced set 79003 had 6 and 4 of those featured new and exclusive molds The models/scenery included should be quite interesting too, I imagine one or two or small ruined buildings (which might be reason why Barry thought there were 3 buildings in the Laketown set). I no longer expect Beorn to make an appearance though, I'm pretty sure the people reporting would have noticed a giant bear among the other contents on display @kevkipo: deskp is right, I really wouldn't expect to see pictures on Wednesday Licensed themes often get the short end of the stick at the Nuremberg Toy Fair in terms of coverage and photo restrictions Sometimes we're lucky and someone secretly takes a picture (like that MoS pic last year), but I wouldn't count on that. Austrian site Spieletest.at usually have a good coverage, but they tend to gloss over the licensed themes in favor of TLG's original ones Edited January 26, 2014 by Lego-Freak Quote
greenalfonzo Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I'll be extremely disappointed if we do not get armored elves in the BO5A set. Armored elves were featured prominently in DOS, and are sure to be in TABA as well. The Mirkwood Army set was a huge letdown as that was a perfect place to get a helmeted elf, but instead we got of lousy hooded 'elves' that have not been seen in any of the movies! Making non-movie figures in sets is totally cheaping out, especially when the armored elves we do see are so cool. Quote

Mahtion Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 So that is mixed news! We were worried about BoFA set containing all of the representative armies and now we know its going to be the second most expensive set. It has room for hero figs like armored Thranduil, Bolg, Dain, etc and may even come with a couple Dale ruins. Yes, it does kinda suck for collecting multiples for the price but it allows greater potential for new molds for the soldiers. Oh and at the very least we know we will be getting one armored elf in the form of Elrond in the Galadriel and Witchking set. Leave it to lego to not represent the most iconic scene in fantasy literature- Laketown aflame with Smaug and Bard. I may be a little disappointed but I am happy with the set layouts and price points since we have the opportunity to get almost everyone. Quote
kevkipo Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 yes, of some stuff not everything. Now im really sad thanks a lot :( First everyone said "Oh yeah maybe The Hobbit will get the Turntable! and we will see a lot of the sets at Nuremberg" Now it's like "Depression, Sad toughts, Boohoo NY Toy fair" Quote
Alcarin Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 so battle of the 5 ARMIES will only include 4? No you will use Mirkwood scouts..... for LEGO those are all the same.... Its pretty simple.... You think they will include both Eagle and LARGE bats? and wargs or will you use warg from Mirkwood elf army.... LEGO obviously looks on the matter differently.... Quote

Gryphon Ink Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 On the other hand, wind-lance doesn't make a lick of sense, since the weapon in question is not any kind of lance. It's a heavy crossbow or scorpion or mangonel, not a lance. Perhaps you could stretch things a bit and call the bolt itself a wind-lance, but the bolt itself already has a name in context - the Black Arrow. it makes a lot more sense that the word being used here is windlass, since that actually is a word that, historically, was used to refer to the mechanisms used to draw heavy crossbows. Unless anybody has an official reference saying that wind-lance is the actual word they made up for this weapon, I have to believe that they're talking about the windlass and the context just isn't very clear. This whole business reminds me somewhat of Han Solo boasting about the Millennium Falcon making the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs. My suspicion is that one of the screenwriters knew the word windlass and thought it meant the whole weapon or the aiming mechanisms. Quote
The Legonater Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I'm a bit shocked to hear all the disappointment in the Lake Town set. I wasn't expecting such a set at all this year, given the one last year. Personally, I'm fine with no Elves if it makes room for everyone else. Mirkwood Elves easily fill that gap for me. Quote

Making non-movie figures in sets is totally cheaping out, especially when the armored elves we do see are so cool. How so laddy? Almost every wood elf (silver Elf from Mirkwood) has a cloak with a cape, it doesent matter if he wears it or not. Those green rangers are from the movie, they have hoods for to look little bit different than the other fig with hair piece. So choose your words more wisely about non-movie figs :) I would be surprised if we get an armored ELF after getting MIRKWOOD ELF ARMY! Accept a 5-6 guardsmen there was only non armoured elves / rangers in DOS! The wargs ar not heir own army, they are merely tools of the orcs. In book they were an army.. Quote
