Norgrimm Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I'd say those strange colourful things inside the rock piece are supposed to represent the room where Balin mixes his bombs, that's the only purpose I can think of. But whatever it is, it's nice from TLG to include something back there :) Quote
Ardelon Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) Actually, when I looked closer, it looks like the Arkenstone in there, so I guess it represents the AUJ prologue scene when the Arkenstone was discovered. Though there doesnt seem a way to access it from the from - a gimmick would have been nice here. Edited September 16, 2014 by Ardelon Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) I think that is the Arkenstone. You can see the Chima crystal with the 1x1 clear round plate on top which appears to have printing. So does that mean there are two arkenstones in the set or was the one moved from the throne to this location? Another nice detail is that the printing on Smaug's belly does reveal his weakness. I also noticed that the secret entrance opens outward, and the "key" is mounted to the inside Edited September 16, 2014 by AFOLguy1970 Quote

Though there doesnt seem a way to access it from the from - a gimmick would have been nice here. Now that I look at it again, it looks like he moved his arkenstone from the throne and placed it in there. He is probably using the extra printed piece to maintain on the throne. The throne arkenstone is apparently mounted on a 2x2 jumper plate which has a sticker attached to it. This could be a little tricky to apply. Presumably, the pattern sticker on the throne has a hole in the middle to accommodate the jumper stud. Quote
Steph 104th Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 The Lego key will fit, end of the key is like a pole piece, therefor it will fit into that piece's stud as it is 'hollow' You can see it somewhat in this image. http://cache.lego.com/r/thehobbit/-/media/franchises/the%20hobbit/products/79018/image2_79018-lrg.jpg?l.r=-898857589 Quote
Doctor_ocks Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Did the UPCs get posted? I didn't seem them in his flickr stream. Quote
Shuebmabow Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Thanks for the early pics, Shuebmabow. Erebor looks just as interesting from the back - whats the transparent blue-orange thing supposed to be? The blue and orange thing is indeed an alternate spot for the Arkenstone. The set came with 2 Arkenstones :) I'm assuming that one was extra, but there is two places for the Arkenstone. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I just noticed. The black ice cream cone. Finally another useful color! Quote

I was wondering whether it was something relating to the third film. Quote
Thomas of Tortuga Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Laketown is decent, but I probably would get the first one before this edition. Smaug's set is way too expensive for my tastes, and Smaug is too unique to use in moccing. Witch king set is just... no. Not paying 15 bucks for three figs and a bit of bricks. Bot5A is a maybe for me. It's not the best build, obviously, but it has some good parts, and the best figs of the series. Dain's helmet is great, and it's a good way for me to get a great eagle without a ton of useless black slopes. Quote
Artanis I Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Well how many "one ring"s do we have? I'm surprised that there aren't 3+ arkenstones... Quote
Steph 104th Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Very, very true. I just noticed something. After looking at the original leaked images again and comparing them the review. In the Lake town sets Bain is pictured with an eye-patch. But the official minifigure appears not to have one. Quote

I'm pretty sure that's just the shadow from his hair coupled with his second face which is covered in dirt. ;J Quote

Hypernova888 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Hey, so to anyone who has 79018 already,if it's not too much to ask, could someone take a top-down photo of the Arkenstone tile? Thanks. Quote
Robert_88 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 (edited) Witch king set is just... no. Not paying 15 bucks for three figs and a bit of bricks. Why? That's a normal price for three minifigures and you get a few useful bricks. Did we ever get more than that in a licensed set for this price? Edited September 17, 2014 by Robert_88 Quote
Daimar Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 We got 2 figs and some bricks in the "Wizzard battle" (Gandalf, Saruman) and the "ridless" (Bilbo and Golum)set, both for 15 EUR, and now we get three minifigs for, almost, the same price, thats a good bargain. Way better than getting any of these figs in a 100 EUR set. Quote
KristofBD Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Not to forget: all three of them are exclusive (only one of them is a variation on an existing minifig)! Not to mention that the Elrond fig can easily be used as an army builder (bricklink). Quote
MAB Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I thought the Witch King set was the best value of the whole wave. Quote
sahidko Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I thought the Witch King set was the best value of the whole wave. It is for most of us. :) Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Even with a high price per piece ratio, I would agree the Witch King Battle is still the best set in value. Three characters (four if you count the skeleton) plus some useful parts is great. With that said, I agree with Thomas that Lonely Mountain is crazy overpriced. I have no idea how the reseller market is going to make anything off that. Bricklink prices for Smaug and other select pieces in the set will have to be fairly high to recover the investment. IMO, It would have to be at least $30 cheaper. Even seeing the whole part of BOFA, it does not really impress me. Dain and crowned Thorin are good to get, but the other characters seem redundant to me, some more than others. Quote
Steph 104th Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 The Witch King set is outstanding! Three amazing minifigures, all exclusive and all of them look amazing. We also get new molds. And an exclusive cape. It is my favorite set from the wave. And as others have stated it is better value than its predecessors. Quote
Crimereporter Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Can't wait to get that witch king set. Love the figs. Quote
kevkipo Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I can't wait for all the sets except Witch King battle! I don't like it, i have nothing with Dol Guldur. I dont like Elves Not going to buy that Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Zhat set ( wKB) has excelent figs so why not buy for 15bucks? :) Quote
