Mahtion Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I hope we get info on most if not all the minifigs and some better details on the sets. At this point pics would just be a bonus. Quote
azog15 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) I wouldn't count on pics but you're right that would be a huge bonus. Maybe just maybe the REAL Smaug will be there! Edited January 28, 2014 by azog15 Quote

Tuinman Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) I agree. Cape and hood vs just hood version: The cape makes them look significantly better. I agree with you. I'm not a fan of capes and most of the time just put them away, but in this case it just works better with cape than without. I expect info not before the 30th of january, with a small chance we might see pictures. Edited January 28, 2014 by Tuinman Quote
SandMirror38 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 @kevkipo Duh of course *facepalm* Hmm ok thanks :) Quote
Seaber Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 If we get bear Born, they might include the minifigure version as well. If so, I hope he has an alternative face print, like Gollum in his two appearances. A calm one would be welcome. Quote
Mahtion Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) I made a LDD version of the smallest set "White Council Attack". Let me know what everyone thinks. I only used 148 bricks total so it should be a good size for the smallest set lego will design. Keep in mind Wizard Battle had 113 pieces and Dol Guldur Ambush had 217. Elrond should have a cape, but his hair prevents that and certainly the Witchking will have different head/hair molds. The bluish flame is supposed to make the scene have a dark energy feel, I understand if the flame piece is too large or it could be replaced with another iron spike or some metal. Galadriel has Nenya on her, but it is difficult to see from the image size and angle. I wanted to give her either her ring or some kind of magic. The side of the stairs should have a familiar spiky vine like those found in the Wave 2 sets but I could not find the item in LDD. I plan on making set designs in LDD of the others over the week including Lake Town Tower, BoFA, and the Lonely Mountain. Edited January 28, 2014 by Mahtion Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 That looks great, I hope the real thing is something along the lines of this Hopefully Nenya is included, that would be ace Quote
Robert_88 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I hope there will be more Hobbit/LotR fans at the Toy Fair in Nürnberg. The reports from London came from people who didn't know a lot about the topic ;) Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 As I've mentioned in the Star Wars thread, the "no photography" policy has apparently been expanded so that we probably don't get to see anything (not even the unlicensed themes) This doesn't mean however that we don't get to hear any news, according to 1000steine.de TLG will reveal bits of information on the official German facebook page, even though there's nothing of relevance to be found yet (https://www.facebook.com/LEGOGermany) Maybe we'll get lucky and they reveal Smaug or something to generate hype I wouldn't get my hopes up though Quote

Does anyone know if the Nuremberg toy fair is tour guided or can people roam free? Edited January 28, 2014 by Darth Punk Quote

Ardelon Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Stop it... Stop talking about the Windlance and the Hoods I mean are you all serious? Here on this Forum we only talk about the sets! Not this nonsense about hoods and windlances Friggin children... Yes i know, i also believe that But really this is becoming a bit out of hand... They are fighting about how you spell it O.o Nobody was fighting. Your posts have been the most aggressive on the subject so far. You are pefectly free to ignore the 1-2 posts per page that mention the sunject and concentrate on the 23-24 that dont. Accusations of childishness are alwayus funny when posted on a forum for kids toys. I always thought the meeting of the goblins and wargs earlier in the book was kind of like them forming an alliance in it's infancy. By the time the Bo5A took place they had already formed up and been working as one. They arrive at the battle together ready to fight, not separately in two different forces like the other factions. It's pretty clear the elves, dwarves, and men are all their own armies since they are ready to fight each other before the goblins come. Then we see the goblins, wargs, and bats arrive, and finally we get the eagles last. Obviously the eagles are not aligned with anyone nor considered a part of the army of elves, men, etc. I guess it's just confusing because you don't tend to view a small group of eagles as an "army". And why are eagles (or wargs) considered their own army, but not the other large intelligent group of creatures? This is why I think Tolkien was referring to the alliances when he laid out the armies in the Bo5A. Otherwise it should of been called the Bo4A (dwarves, elves, goblins, and men.. no animals) or the Bo6A (all the previous mentioned plus the large creatures - wargs and eagles). I would have no problem counting the eagles and the bats as armies, however small. I always wondered why not count the eagles and bats and have it called the Battle of Seven Armies. Its just that the Tolkien is pretty clear: he calls it the Battle of Five Armies and immediately lists the 5 factions. The meeting to attack the woodmen was presented as ad hoc, similar to many such raids before. The Bo5A alliance between them seems just as ad hoc. I wonder if a 60USD BoFA set would merit an eagle, a warg and Beorn in Bear form. I see the eagle as the most redundant, but if they really will be one of the 5 armies, it should be included. The warg has the benefit of being both a mount and a combatant, unlike a boar or elk/stag would be. And is there any official word on a bear Beorn at all? The no photo rule at the Nuremberg toy fair is unfortunate, as again we will have to rely on the knowledge of the attendees when/if they describe the sets. Quote

Technically not a child, and i don't know what you are talking about. and i don't want to fight on a forum ment for discussion but i see a lot of stuff on the Windlance discussion, just saying... and how am i aggressive? or maybe you count "i can't wait until Toy Fair" as aggressive :) Edited January 28, 2014 by kevkipo Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 So we have to wait till NY to get photos right? I'm hoping for a bear form Beorn, although knowing Lego, it'll just be the regular bear mold, maybe with some extra/different printing? I don't know if you know it... but im almost 16 years old And this is an 18+ forum. Mentioning you're under that age is likely to get you banned as stated in the rules. Quote

I really hope we get some solid info about the sets and if we're lucky some pictures Im with you my friend Edited January 28, 2014 by kevkipo Quote

jackstatic Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Well, after going back through several pages about windlances, hoods, what the armies were in the Bo5A, and age requirements for posting, I finally managed to find the info about the sets for TABA, and I for one am excited. Hopefully the Erebor set has something more to offer than just a Smaug, but an add on to laketown, the witch king and a Bo5A set sound great! (I am hoping for bear form beorn!) Quote
Deathleech Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I would have no problem counting the eagles and the bats as armies, however small. "So began a battle that none had expected; and it was called the Battle of Five Armies, and it was very terrible. Upon one side were the Goblins and the wild Wolves, and upon the other were Elves and Men and Dwarves." Tolkien names the battle and then lists five races, but doesn't specifically name them as the five armies. Obviously he wouldn't list the eagles here because their coming is one of the major turning points of the battle. If he listed them it would give a big surprise away. Sorry if it seems like I am being argumentative, but I think this has a pretty big impact on what the Bo5A set will include. I was trying to check around for a definitive answer and there doesn't seem to be one. It's another example of Tolkien being vague. It doesn't help the armies are contradictory (why is one species of animals considered their own army but not the others?) Even on this site it lists the five armies as the dwarves, men, elves, orcs, and wargs, but then later on it says the orcs and wargs are only one army: "Soon the Orcs and Wargs arrived (and now the fourth army was on the field)". In the cartoon version the wargs and orcs are listed as one army and the eagles another. Quote
Mahtion Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Honestly I don't think we will get a bear form for Beorn which is a shame. I'm sure the attendees at the London Toy Fair would have mentioned something like that. I mean they are pretty clueless about LOTR/Hobbit but they should be able to note a giant bear! A giant bear would be cool to have but I hope we get some kind of animal, Eagle or warg or even a giant boar like Dain is supposed to mount. I agree Deathleech. By knowing how PJ and Lego define the BoFA will determine which minifigs we would likely get. Eagles are definitely considered one of the armies in most versions or interpretations. Lego would love to reuse them from Black gate but I wonder why nobody mentioned them. Either way I am really excited to see what Lego designs for this most important and iconic of battles in the Tolkien legendarium and especially in the Hobbit. Quote
