Totally agree.

Also, this topic is about Lego Hobbit 2014 - which is going to involve the BOFA movie. The lego sets are "spoilers". You've got the witch king set, the BOFA set, both of which kind of "spoil" part of the plot.

Exactly.

In a theoretical extra set, I would simply hope for the obvious omission: an army builder set. It would be similar to Battle of the Five Armies, except there would be generics in it. You would have generic orcs, a generic iron hill dwarf, an armored elf, a man of Lake Town, and I guess if there absolutely had to be a named character, include Bolg. If there is room for a creature, include a troll. It is hard to believe this movie is based on an epic battle, and you cannot recreate it, because the battle set had no generic good guys. If you use every minifigure you have, the bad guys are outnumbered, which is obviously not the case in the movie.

I would have included a thirty dollar army builder set. It would include an Iron Hills Dwarf, a man of Lake-town, an armoured Mirkwood Elf, an armoured Gundabad orc, a Warg, and, instead of a sixth minifigure, an Eagle. A few bats would be icing on the cake. The build itself would be a section of Dale.

And I would have included a five dollar armoured Gundabad orc polybag.

Still, Now that unpleasant business is over what do you guys think in regards to my other question? If you could have a couple more BO5A sets what would you include?

Ravenhill with that nice ice on the ground, seems as if a lot of action takes place there

Also Thranduil in Armour and those nice big trolls, and off course Ram's and Iron Hill army

I was thinking about it, and it seems to me that Lego really dropped the ball by not releasing the Smaug set last year. It would have been timed much better to the release of the most Smaug-heavy film, and would have freed up room in the current wave for some additional sets from the Battle itself.

Probably due to some two-movies-to-three shennanigans.

Well, if it was only 2 movies smaug should still have been a 2013 set.

I agree wholeheartedly. If they were so worried about spoilers then they could have released it in January a month after the film had premiered when it would have sold like a hotcake. PLus it would have not had the armoured dwarves as they would have most likely shown up if there had been more bo5A sets. If they had then i'd imagine the Figures for that set would have been Bilbo (blue same as we got), Thorin (laketown clothing), Balin (laketown robes), Dwalin (laketown robes) and bombur (laketown) along with smaug as if it was based primarilly on DOS then kili and Fili would have been in laketown. Alas things did not happen this way. At least we got some of the dwarves in armour, all the principal characters bar another version of thranduil and bolg. Sadly a highly innacurate azog and legolas. plus some more orcs and not forgetting gwahir and smaug. So it could have been better but it could have been worse and at least this wave has three actual structures opposed to walls.

They haven't done so bad i mean over the line they have given us more orcs than LOTR ever did, more or less all five main villains although missing one secondary villain, All 13 dwarves, with 5 of them in multiple variations, The entire white council bar saruman (who is availiable elsewhere), all the supporting characters apart from Thorin's father, grandfather and alfrid, also missed out the trolls, we've had loads of bad guy troops i mean over a dozen orcs over 3 years and some goblins. Most of the biggest stages of the films they have represented in one way or another, the battle of the five armies isn't accurate but they only had concept art and prelim costume designs when they planned it.

Wave 2 would have been better suited for Smaug, cut out the big Dol Guldur set scale it down a bit and replace the DGA set with it. And give us the Erebor set we've received now then in DGB place.

Or alternatively lego could just accept that 4 sets isn't enough for such large movies as DOS and BO5A. It mystifies me when AUJ gets 6 sets as does the lone ranger and Avengers 2. That movies so large in scale and things happening such as DOS and BO5A get only 4 each. Plus with this being the wave to bow out middle earth in lego and cinema it seems a bit silly for lego to not make it a big event. They did the same With harry potter. We got for Deathly Hallows 2 sets that were as far from movie accurate as you can get. At least the hobbit BO5A sets are actually based on events from the movie and not on some lego fabrication like with Hogwarts battle (which actually was pretty similar to the BO5A dale tower set).

I would say that for The Battle, it would have been best to make a Dale set with orcs, Bolg, Thranduil, elves and men, a piece of the Dwarven wall with Thorin, Bard, some extra dwarves or two, and then ravenhill, with Legolas, Dain, the crossbow thing, Azog, and a couple of orcs. I may go into more detail later, maybe even create my vision in LDD.

Its difficult to say which sets this wave could have included, without first having seen the film. But I guess an army-builder type set with generic good guy soldiers (mainly an Iron Hill Dwarf or two) would have been most welcome. Apart from that, the gates of Erebor stand out in my mind as being set-worthy, in the style of the Fantasy dwarf mine or the Lone Ranger silver mine. And maybe the dwarvish battle chariot...

Actually i have been following this discussion very closely

The fact that you attributed comments to me, and were wrong in doing so, because i didn't make them, suggested otherwise.

There was nothing rude or juvenile about how Blazej Holen asked Artanis to calm down. He had clearly made a few typographical errors as spoiler is not spelt "spooler" and only is not spelt omly. I do not consider a couple of obvious accidental keyboard slip ups rude or juvenile, i simply consider them human error. The request to calm down was not directed in a rude way and contained no threatening or rude language so i do not fathom how you could see it this way.

I couldn't disagree more. telling someone to 'calm down' for simply expressing their disappointment with something, would suggest that it is in fact that person who is becoming upset, and should probably take their own advise. I would go so far as to say they were being deliberately inflammatory, and unnecessarily dismissive of someone else's opinion.

Now before this gets out of hand i certainly do acknowledge yours and artanis1's point of view entirely as i can see some would consider a trailer a spoiler. However what i do not understand is the disrespectful way that you replied to this poster both questioning his common sense, turning his request on him and dismissing his point of view due to your assumptions about his age. I was paying attention very closely to this thread and if you look back at page 191 at your comment you will see references to both age (even if jokingly), common sense and a repeat of the request he put to someone else.

See above comment.

To be quite plain i am just trying to point out that although discussion of an official trailer without spoiler tags perhaps should not be something that is done here. Shooting someone down after they try to express their opinion of that debate then outright accusing them of being rude or juvenile when your reply to them was condescending in itself solves nothing and makes the situation worse. Then further accusing someone trying to point out that perhaps your reply was a bit sharp of making assumptions or not playing attention to the thread i.e me is also a waste of time because i have been following this thread closely for a good long while.

You're supporting my point here.

Thats my final word on the matter. If you don't agree with my analysis of this situation fair enough that's your opinion and you are entitled to it. However i have spoken only the facts as shown by the comments and claiming i have made assumptions is pointless.

As with me.

And as I've stated already. That was Artanis' opinion, and he was entitled to it as well, without the reaction that it received.

Just to be clear once again i really dislike calling out any mistakes or misinterpretations people make so this was quite uncomfortable for me and i'm sorry if any of my points are construed as disrespectful here. I have the highest regard for the EB community and all you LOTR/ Hobbit fans out there,i'm proud to be one of you.

We don't have a personal problem. We just obviously don't agree on this, and probably never will.

Have a good day and stay well

So I've been looking around on Bricklink for a few weeks for some neat LOTR/Hobbit stuff that I can get for a good price. Yesterday, I came across TLM for only 30$, which is amazing even though the minifigures and Smaug are excluded. (I sought to extend my Erebor and I have had the complete set since mid September, so the minifigs' exclusion is no problem for me.) Also for the same price I bought DGB, which also excludes the minifugures, but is nevertheless a pretty great deal. My point is that if you're looking to expand your location models like I am, then there's some phenomenal deals on Bricklink now for sets lacking their corresponding minifigs. :)

On a side note, am I the only one who thinks that TLM would look a lot more movie-like if it were Olive Green rather than the over-bright sand green that we got? I'm not complaining, but just wondering...?

I actually think dark green looks better.

Wasnt PJ keeping Smaug's final design close to the chest a factor? I know Bridge Direct citied this as their reason for no Smaug figure for DoS.

Bridge Direct's "handling" of this toyline goes beyond design changes. I have no idea how those guys obtained the rights to market such a huge license but they've failed all along the way. From everything I've gathered following their "progress" they used the production changes as a scapegoat for their own shortcomings.

Yes, some of the walkways were dark green. I think that this was meant to represent malachite, which is a semiprecious stone. Malachite in that quantity would be extraordinary in our world, but considering that the Lonely Mountain had rivers of gold and diamonds bigger than the hope diamond, it would seem fitting that they had that much malachite to embellish the halls of Erebor. It is definitely not a cheap material, and it is a very rich dark green color.

Some of the areas in the film do look like a darker shade of green. However, I personally think that the Sand Green reflects the feel of Erebor better than either Dark or Olive Green. IMO, the Dark Green LEGO shade looks a bit too dark to suit the green in Erebor, as seen here as kind of faded in a few places. A mix of Dark Green and Sand Green would work in a bigger structure, but I think with the model they have, sticking with Sand Green works just fine.

You too, I must've simply misread the situation. I suppose it was none of my business anyway, i'm not the best at reading situations due to my dyspraxia so sorry if i offended anyone. As i stated i meant no offence and bid you well also. Clearly just a misunderstanding. To be clear i agree with you somewhat on using spoiler tags for trailer discussion. :classic:

On the subject of more sets i really wish we'd have got a Ravenhill set. As

It appears thats where a lot of the final fights go down, from the soundtrack titles and the order of the soundtrack and the fact that in the trailer Thorin and Azog, Legolas and Bolg, Kili, Fili and Tauriel are all fighting in scenes there possibly in succession and all the promo images on merch even the lego sets show it on the packaging.

Actually that location (Ravenhill) was for a few seconds in AUJ as well ;)

Really? Which scene. Is it that panning shot where Thranduil is on top of the hill is it imbedded into the side of the hill or somewhere else?

Posted

Its that scene when dwarves run out form the main gate of Erebor, a few seconds after Smaug conquer Lonely mountain. Its in EE I guess. Personaly I notice that Tower form RH after a while, but still the location was there .. even for a split second :)
