Its that scene when dwarves run out form the main gate of Erebor, a few seconds after Smaug conquer Lonely mountain. Its in EE I guess. Personaly I notice that Tower form RH after a while, but still the location was there .. even for a split second :)

AH yes! I remember that now. It is in the theatrical as well i believe as that shot is unchanged (i own both theatrical and extended on blu ray) Personally the AUJ extended is a bit dry to be quite honest other than 2 scenes that add to the theatrical in a way that doesn't slow it down. The DOS one is quite decent though and has some great new scenes.

I love the current wave, i have no problem with it

Tough there is one thing i like to point out, we need another wave  just for the battle itself

That's not going to happen ever

But all this movie talk makes me so wanting that!

1 - Ravenhill with ice, Armoured Azog with scimitar, Thorin in other battle clothes, Bofur, Kili and Fili in other battle clothes, random orcs

2 - Dale, Bolg, Thrandy, Legsys, Dain, Iron Hill warrior with Goat, random orc and maybe that cart Bard rides

3 - Troll giant attack, Giant troll with catapult on his back, one of those Troll masters (those fatties, Bard crushes one in the trailer :snicker: ) 2 Elven soldiers.

Wouldn't that be epic :head_back:

To be honest i had rather seen the smallest set of this year be one based on The battle, like a mini battle pack

- Little piece of rock exploding function, 1 Iron Hill warrior, 1 Elven soldier, 1 orc

Simple as that :sceptic:

I recently got to the Lonely Mountain in the video game, and was wandering around when I realized that a structure I had seen to the south of the mountain in walkthroughs I had watched before I got the game was (Kind of obviously) an unlabled Ravenhill. Unlabled for now, that is. On the subject of the game, I REALLY want to see the army controls from the Clone Wars game implemented. I havn't played The Clone Wars, but from what I've seen the feature would work really well. I also hope with the DLC that (Even though it's likely not going to happen) you can go inside and explore Erebor.

Hey, on a scale from 1-10, (10 being highest.) How would you rate the part selectiong, minifigures, and overall set of GKB?

Also, does anyone know of a place (non-Ebay) where the Goblin King Battle is on sale? I live in 'merica.

I would give it a 7.5, we get the only big fig of The Hobbit franchise, all the goblins have different torso pieces and obviously 3 dwarves to make up the company. And in my opinion Nori has the best hairpieces of all the 13 dwarves. As for pieces, there are quite a few rock pieces which are always nice for MOCs. The browns are actually different colours as well. It includes a bunch of dark brown spears and a cauldron. They're are 10+ skulls included with a few gold pieces and diamonds to top it off. The areas cannot connect but you can still arrange them as you wish. It also has a few play features and many stickers.

Well, a cool pirate ship or some piles of generick rocks and tree structures? Not to mention, Army of the Dead figs and peter jackson minifig!

Also, the pirate ship is from the vastly superior trilogy. I bricklinked the three dwarves and didn't bother with the Goblin King.

And what will u guys prefer better? Pirate Ship ambush set or GKB? Pros and cons please... :)

The Pirate Ship has some great figs, but for me, that's about it. The ship itself has always seemed very boring to me. As for GKB, I really, really like the design of it. I find it very detailed and much more playable than the ship. I think it looks really cool, especially when you have all the dwarves fighting around it in a display.

If I had planned this wave, it would have two more sets and some changes to the sets we did get:

Witch King battle, changes: turn it to a $30 dollar set, add Flamming Sauron, Saruman and more ruins of Dol Guldur.

Lake Town battle, changes: turn it to a $50 dollar set, add Bolg, Legolas with new prints and make the Lake Town buildings bigger.

The Lonely Mountain, changes: Add alot of gold and some Dwarf Statues.

Battle of five Armies, changes: turn it to a $90 dollar set, add more ruins of Dale, Change Azog to Printed Armor Azog, get rid of Legolas and add Armored Thranduil, add a Troll with catapult, get rid of one of the Orc and add a new printed armor to the other one, then add an Armored Elf.

Raven hill: A $60 dollar set with the Raven Hill tower, a new giant bat, 2 Ironhill Dwarfs, an orc, New Armor Thorin and Printed Armor Azog.

Bear Beorns Attack: a $15 dollar set with 2 new Armor print Orcs, some ruins of Dol Guldur and new printed Bear Beorn (using the old bear mold).

Honestly, I know the more rabid Tolkien fans around here hate the Pirate ship simply because it wasn't Minas Tirith, but it is actually a really good Lego set. Great figs (ok ok yet another Gimli) cool play value etc. fantastic display piece. Some amazing parts like the printed shields.

the Goblin King set has a cool bigfig, some set unique dwarves and goblins, but the build is crap. As someone said just little disjointed piles of rock. They don't even connect. The throne by itself makes a nice display piece, but not at that price. The set has zero play value, almost no display value and has little even in the way of interesting parts. If you want to build an interesting pile of rocks hunt down the Lone Ranger Silver Mine. The Goblin King set is one of the worst of the Middle Earth line. Only redeemed by its figs.

I have both sets and I like them both for different reasons, GKB because it reminds me of a land in Demon Souls and a PSA because the ship is really unique, here are pictures of both sets for you to compare and decide for yourself.

Personally, the Pirate Ship was a great set. Would I rather have Minas Tirith? In a heartbeat. That doesn't make it a bad set. The boat itself is pretty cool, but I don't have very many boats so I'm not the best judge of that. You get the Three Hunters, so if you haven't been an avid collected that's a good place to pick them up. You get the Oathbreakers, which are amazing figs and a cool addition to the collection, you get more Orcs, and a Corsair of Umbar. It's a pretty wide variety of cultures represented, which I love.

The Goblin King set is pretty cool, but the price is steep. If you're looking to collect all the dwarves it's essential, as Nori, Dori and Ori are only in this set. It also represents a pretty memorable scene both in the book and the movie. If you have it, the set looks great with the Orc Mine set, resulting in an amazing display piece once the dwarves and goblins are crawling all over it.

I, personally, would go for the Goblin King out of the two because you complete your dwarf collection, but the Pirate Ship is still a great set if you can pick it up later.

I just like some part on GKB, mainly the Throne section. Its one of two sets from the Hobbit line that I miss. (along with barrel escape). I found pretty much details on throne and surroundings, but after all, it is actually pile of rabbish bringing nothing new. Its a paradox, that those parts I like most has a stickers on, and so far (as I heard from different reviews) there are around 20 of them.. :( Besides those dwarves (which I want to complete my group) I dont actually need it (only to comlete my collection but can live with out it) Maybe its kinda desirable for me because of that big figure as well (I missed Mines of moria, so i dont have Cave trol as well)..

PSA has some really nice details for me like the sails and the main things on the board, like the chest with maps and bottles, and different planks all over the place. And also the shields etc... What I trully like are those Oathbreakers. The main problem is that I already have all three heroes (so this will be my second Legolas in that version - fourth in all, third Gimli, Third same Aragorn and fourth in all along with the one in his kings armour). Orc are always velcome, and since I have Around 10 spare hadpieces with tan ears, its not big deal for me to get them bald originally. But on the 100bucks set there is to few pieces, only 756 i guess, and also those pieces are small ones, so when I look on the contence of the box (on video) I was terribly surprised how small the set actually is (beside those prefab hulls)... And also I kinda dont like that sails has only one side printing, so whole other side of the ship is kinda .. not so good at least. I thought about some moccing at least for the masts and sails, because I dont like their position as they are too straight.

So all in all this is my actuall thoughts about DKB and PSA... but after all I will probably go to PSA...

Or alternatively lego could just accept that 4 sets isn't enough for such large movies as DOS and BO5A. It mystifies me when AUJ gets 6 sets as does the lone ranger and Avengers 2. That movies so large in scale and things happening such as DOS and BO5A get only 4 each.

DOS gets more than four. AUJ only got four. Barrel Escape and Mirkwood Spiders were clearly marked preview sets - these were both from DOS. Also the Smaug set is really DOS, or shared between DOS and B05A. So DOS has the most sets dedicated to it out of all the three films. Sure, the timing of the sets don't match but that is down to the film being split into three rather than two, and the timing of the production of the lego sets. Lego clearly didn't want vast numbers of the two early scenes from DOS sitting in warehouses until the film was released.

I don't mind the Smaug set being in the last wave. It is the highlight set of the series. They might find sales pick up at the end rather than in the middle, which may help to sell the middle wave sets. If Smaug was in the middle, the later sets may not have sold so well. Who knows - lego would have modelled this.

The omission is of course the armies of B05A, but lego has history here. We know the key armies of LOTR ROTK are missing, same here. The Rohan soldier now stands out as an anomoly - even though for AFOLs he is probably in the best army building set. Lego presumably knows that they should concentrate on key characters and not do battle scenes for most of the population. To do a battle well you need, what, at least 20-40 minifigs on each side. That puts battle scenes out of reach of the main audience. They'd prefer to have an identifiable main guy rather than an unidentifiable one.

In hindsight we've gotten quite a lot of sets - from the 6 Middle-Earth movies we've gotten 26 different sets, compare that to PotC (4 movies, 9 sets) or Indiana Jones (4 movies, 16 sets)

Sure, the lack of armies and essential characters from LotR sucks, but at this point we can really be happy for what we got.

Right now I'm just hoping for some kind of Minas Tirith set to get the last stuff we need, like Faramir, Eowyn, Witch-King and Gondor Soldiers. Buildings you can MOC, and while the lack of Dwarven/Elven soldiers from BoFa is sad, you can MOC some by switching around some elven/dwarven parts.

I just saw some more of the Goblin King Battle on clearance at a local Walmart over the weekend. In fact, there were other wave 2 sets (Warg Attack and the DGA)..

I prefer the pirate ship ambush though. Not only do I like LotR more than the Hobbit, but the build itself flows much better as you make a cohesive item. I hated Goblin King set and I think it is the only set that I abandoned before completing. Too much of it was just random though the collapsible bridge is nice.

For me a lot of the fun of building following instructions is when you realize why certain pieces had to go in a certain place for either structure or design purposes. But when you are building ruins or rocky surfaces, too much of the time it is just random.

The nice thing about PSA, you can repurpose Legolas and Gimli if you are into that. Yes, you get multiples of them across the theme, but you can reuse them as other Elves/Dwarves, if need be. With the Hobbit Dwarves, it's harder to repurpose them with their specialized headpieces. Plus, Oathbreakers FTW...they work in other areas too. Halloween MOC anyone?

We all are...=(

Well im not, tough i would like to see a set like that just for you guys

And cause Faramir was one of my favourite characters in the movie
