Balbo Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 The set didnt work well for DOS, but its great for bo5a scene. Wow that looks awesome . A great way for displaying the Dol Guldur sets. Quote
Hypernova888 Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 "Who needs food" indeed. Honestly, though my wallet's very thankful that Middle-Earth is ending! Quote
bungeshea Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Well, I dont think it has connectors. But they obviously go together as part of laketown. Thanks for clarifying. The Brickapedia page says that they can 'connect', but from pictures of the set it looks like they are both standalone structures. Quote
Batsy Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 So I finally saved enough money to buy a set, but which one should I consider to buy: The Battle of Five Armies, Dol Guldur BattLe or An Unexpected Gathering? Quote
Steph 104th Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 So I finally saved enough money to buy a set, but which one should I consider to buy: The Battle of Five Armies, Dol Guldur BattLe or An Unexpected Gathering? Unexpected Gathering, its the most iconic and its retiring soon, or already is, the others will still be on the Market for a while. The build is cheery and very enjoyable. So grab 79003 as soon as you can. Quote
Cammo Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 So I finally saved enough money to buy a set, but which one should I consider to buy: The Battle of Five Armies, Dol Guldur BattLe or An Unexpected Gathering? Get the unexpected gathering. Best set of the LotR/Hobbit line. Even one of the best sets in the last 2-3 years. Quote
Hypernova888 Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Unexpected. Same reason as the others. Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I built the Unexpected Gathering two Christmases ago, and still refuse to ever take it apart. It is a well designed and colorful set. The only changes made to it were to include all of the dwarves--yes it is crowded inside-- add the table, bench, and more food from last year's City Advent Calendar, and add a little green frog to the garden in front. To me, it is one of the best sets ever, not just in the series. Quote
namioik Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 This theme just gets lackluster the more waves it carries out IMHO. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this theme. It was a good run and I couldn't have been happier. With that said, I decided to purge all my sets due to lack of space. Please PM me for inquiries. Quote
Darth Punk Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Unexpected Gathering by a mile. It set the bar so high none of the other hobbit sets came close. And I think it represents the type of set Tolkien fans would have like to seen for other middle earth locations. Quote
Batsy Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 So thank you for all replies, I got it and now I will have much fun building it! :D Quote
Steph 104th Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Great image, interresting Lake Town was chosen as the back-drop. Quote
Balbo Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 The Poster looks great . I saw the Bo5A movie today and I can say: The Lake Town set makes much sense now. Furthermore the Dol Guldur set works great, too. It's just a pity that the beard piece of Dain isn't printed. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 (edited) @Balbo: I agree, the Laketown set is surprisingly accurate I have to say I also saw the film today and I thought it was terrific Too bad some characters merely have cameos, but I'm sure the EE will fix that And interestingly, it added another layer of confusion to the whole design madness surrounding Azog and Bolg since the initial Bolg design makes an appearance as some sort of torture master at Dol Guldur, who briefly tosses Gandalfs cage around before being obliterated by Galadriel. Also noteworthy is a scene that's depicted in the teaser trailer but doesn't appear in the final film at all (and probably won't even be in the EE since it contradicts the events in the film unless there's an edit involved). bungeshea Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Interesting about the Lake town set - I assumed it was based on the Desolation of Smaug, where Legolas and Tariel were fighting Bolg's Orcs and Bard and Bain were running around with the Black Arrow. Quote

Wich scene is that? Also i think i saw the torture master, in the new Flash game fight for middle earth. he was named as bolg but totally different with a weird helmet and red flags on his shoulders Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 @kevkipo: It's the scene with the chariot. I know where it would fit in, but the problem is Balin - he's doesn't go to Ravenhill so they'd have to edit him out Quote
Hypernova888 Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 (edited) new poster on the FB-page: Awesome! Edited December 14, 2014 by kabel please do not quote pics! Quote

BrickBob Studpants Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 So the scene is not in the movie at all? or is he just cut out Nope, no trace of that scene in the theatrical cut They might put it back in once the EE arrives, but it's hard to tell at this point... Quote
Dragonlego27 Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 It's great that a certain character design makes an appearance, he looked much more epic and fearsome to me than his official design. Shame we never got either of them in Lego. The Dol Guldur sets make much more sense now (I'm tempted to get multiple Witch King Sets). Quote
