Steph 104th Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 The DLC? Where is the DLC!? Well clearly not on my game. I'm hoping it comes in the new year Quote
Hypernova888 Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 (edited) The DLC? Where is the DLC!? Please? C'mon, LEGO!!! Edited December 22, 2014 by Hypernova888 Quote
Fives Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Wow, the amount of agreement here Ruins of Dale, Mountain troll, Percy, Alfrid, Bard couldn't agree more! Battle for Erebor, Maybe include some of the other dwarves? or not cause the Iron Hill dwarves are awesome Duel at Ravenhill, Include ze Ram! for the rest it is perfect! Oh now i want all of this Thanks for the feedback! I would also love to see some of the animals from the battle, but new molds always drive the prices of sets up. I was trying to come up with ideas that would all land at around 60$-75$. Also, I thought about battle packs, but seeing as LEGO has never given the Middle-Earth themes the battle packs they deserved, I thought to just cram 8 orcs in the sets. Quote
HawkLord Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 After just seeing the BoFA, I'm even more disappointed in the Lego sets. I mean, Smaug is great, but really feels better placed on the DoS line-up, which would leave room for a bigger BoFA set. Maybe Ravenhill, but also maybe like the gates of the mountain. If Lego had confidence in the line beyond one wave of BoFA, I could see devoting new molds to several elements of the movie. I really hate to sound negative, but with how badly Lego phoned in the last movies sets makes me think the Middle Earth stuff is done... Quote
Mazin Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 No worries. There's still Silmiarillion You know And knowing Jackson's love for trilogies he would probably turn it into a whole bunch of them Quote
sahidko Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 No worries. There's still Silmiarillion You know And knowing Jackson's love for trilogies he would probably turn it into a whole bunch of them The only problem is that Christopher Tolkien is not a big fan of Jackson's adaptions so he is not going to sell rights to Silmarilion. What will the rest of the family do after he dies is a question. Quote
Mazin Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 (edited) Yeah, I've heard that. And I meant it as a joke Still, I believe that since Jackson could reshape and rewrite both LOTR and Hobbit, divide them freely, kick out some characters and add some completely new ones, I guess they could go full steam ahead and make some "own" Middle Earth productions. If their license is NOT only to make official adaptations. Like with Sony and 20th Century Fox holding the rights to Marvel characters are squizing money from these franchises every way they want, New Line could the the same with LOTR and Hobbit right. Whatever. Do some prequels, midquels, interquels, sidequels etc At least I would definitely go that way. Something set in such a great and costly universe could work and sell well. And so Lego would be glad to do sets based on those new original creations. Edited December 23, 2014 by Mazin Quote
kevkipo Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 One can only hope, but PJ said he is done with Middle-earth Quote
sahidko Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 One can only hope, but PJ said he is done with Middle-earth Yeah but i think he also said he is done with doing trilogies after LOTR and we all know how that ended. :D Quote
Mazin Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Even if, there're other directors and movie makers. If they will smell the money, they will enlist anyone to continue. Just like they did with POTC when Verbinski left the franchise... actually even saying that "noone will ever make another pirate movie after he's done"... Had to be seriously knocked in the head on the set during the production when he made that thought ... and like Disney is doing with Star Wars! 5 minuted with hands on the new property and they've already officialy announced to make a ton of movies and cartoons based on the franchise. So why not do the same with LOTR and Hobbit. There's still a lot about this universe that we don't know. A lot of characters to meet. And a lot of Lego sets to be produced Quote
The-Nexu Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 thanks, Hypernova! I understood most of what you were describing so, good job! However, I didn't understand what a profile brick was or what type of horns were being used. I know what the 1x1 tooth plate is but what are the other kinds? Still, thank you verry much! Quote

I really hate to sound negative, but with how badly Lego phoned in the last movies sets makes me think the Middle Earth stuff is done... I think that is because Lego had to work with preliminaries or even just with concept arts and such. That PJ is known to make quite some last-minute changes does not help. I agree that the actual battle should have been three sets (Dale, Erebor, Ravenhill). Especially Ravenhill could have been so great, like Weathertop but with the signal mast. If there is something I dislike about the actual Lego sets, it is that you have to buy the most expensive sets to sit Thorin in regal attire on his throne. Also the full battle armour of all the dwarves - including helmets - would have been so nice. (PJ's decision that the dwarves strip down for battle, doing away with the plate armour, makes no sense anyway). Quote

And a lot of Lego sets to be produced Well, maybe this is good news for you. But being almost done with College i have plans I'm studying animation at the moment, when im finished i want to approach WB with a new idea Since the Trilogy's are done i want to carry on Middle-Earth for a new generation I have made some concept art on a new show that i'd like to call Story's of Erebor / Story's of middle Earth (Name about to change) It will focus on what happens next after Thorin (does the thing he does in the movie ) and with Dain being King, The story itself will be following 3 young Dwarves Bofur's son named after Thorin's brother Frerin, Nori's son (Thinking of a name) and Dwalin's son Of course i have to do a lot of research (if these guys ever really had any children, so yes then it wont work) but if it all plans out like i want it to i can think it can make a great cartoon with an already built up fanbase But i can't say more :x Quote
HawkLord Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I think some battle packs would have gone a long, long way for this line. It is the "battle of five armies" after all, so troops would be welcome. I mean I'd easily pay the going rate of $12 for a battle pack of two dwarves and two orcs. Then another one with two elves and a mounted warg rider. Literally, the whole final movie is just one big fight... Quote
Darth Punk Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 If the Hobbit had been properly planned from the beginning we could have ended up with very different sets. These sets take time to,plan and develop and are largely based on concept material that TLG is allowed to have access to. But when you add an entire movie into the mix midway and have movies heavily laden with cgi that can be changed constantly you are going to end up with what we got. TLG no doubt will be happy to see the end of middle earth and might not, take on such projects in the future especially when PJ is involved. Quote
Mazin Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Or... as there's a fashion for it... they'll do an immidiate reboot of the whole series and so TLG will approach the problem again Warner Bros. only owns the rights to make movies based on TLoR and the Hobbit. All other rights belong to the Tolkien family and only they could expand upon middle earth. Where as Disney owns all rights to anything to do with Star Wars thus they could make new movies forever. Is that for sure? I mean, we know that they won't ( probabbly ) do Silmarilion as Christopher Tolkien owns the rights and is in conflict on both financial and artistic levels. Still, is it official that they could only make an adaptation of specific books? There're always lawyers and they can do certain "interpretations" Well, maybe this is good news for you. But being almost done with College i have plansI'm studying animation at the moment, when im finished i want to approach WB with a new idea Since the Trilogy's are done i want to carry on Middle-Earth for a new generation Hold You horses mate If what Dartk Punk said is true, then You won't do much about it Still, turning Your own ideas on how to expand certain universe into a DIFFERENT theme is a well accepted approach, used more than often by profesionals Quote

That's the reason he was able to include Dol Guldur, even though it wasn't in the Hobbit book. I would love to see him make some movies based on some of the events described, like the War in the North, and such. Quote
Hypernova888 Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 (edited) I have my kind of long explinations for why I don't think The Silmarillion would make a good film (probably the worst of Tolkien's stuff for the big screen, I would say.) But I'm not going to go into it, at least quite yet. I think the idea of expanding the universe for more content would only damage the world and split the fanbase further. I love the film adaptions, and would TOTALLY watch Kev's thing, but I think just writing new stories wouldn't be good. It's the TOLKIENverse: What is it really if he doesn't write the basic story? Seeing as he's no longer around, I don't think that making more stories like The Hobbit is wise. Edited December 24, 2014 by Hypernova888 Quote
Shuebmabow Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Now that all of the behind the scenes books concerning BO5A are out, I've been looking through them and buying some. I'm finding a lot of Ravenhill stuff in those books, so I decided to try and MOC it. I have done A LOT of work (12 hours for each of five days and three restarts) on this project so far, and the only way to describe it is massive. I'm building at minifig scale and the quarter of it I have finished is becoming too large for my workspace already. The icy stuff will be the hardest part, so any suggestions as to how to make the ice and waterfall would be more than welcome. I'll put a few pics of the WIP on my Flickr momentarily,... :) I also have a ram design that I can't take total credit for because it was half inspired by someone's (I cannot remember who specifically) idea that I found in an Erebor MOC somewhere on Mocpages. Anyway, I think the ram looks accurate enough, and, with the addition of antlers and a color swap, could be used for Thranduil's elk. I'll include a picture of that with the Ravenhill ones. Again, feedback is helpful. Quote

Your idea sounds great, although I think an Beornling should be included. I still think PJ is leaving himself a lot of breathing room should he ever want to return to Middle Earth. Certain plotlines which weren't concluded and... certain characters who weren't dead. I mean there's still the fate of two characters, a certain elf and ranger, a rather unfortunate expedition to Moria, the hunt for Gollum and the fate of the north in the war of the ring. That's another trilogy right there. Quote
