Bain!!??? :wall:

I assumed like the others that Old Bilbo would be the most logical option, although I secretly hoped it would be Bilbo with a mithril shirt printing. Either would be an appropriate tie in to the whole Middle Earth series, but instead we get this? I really hope this is a joke. Seriously, who makes these decisions?

I secretly hoped it would be Bilbo with a mithril shirt printing.

My number 1 wish! It would fit very well to the BotFA in general and the armoured dwarves in particular.

Of course a new mould is unrealistic for a book or DVD extra, so no Bolg. But even with prints some nice stuff would have been possible:

- Bilbo with Mithril shirt

- old Bilbo

- Thranduil in battle armour

- Thorin in mail (after having stripped down the regal armour, facing Azog)

- Azog in armour (???)

Well given that I thought it was already over, I am happy for every extra figure we get. Bain himself is not that interesting, but that is one nice torso! So: I'm happy with it. LEt's hope more exclusive figures will follow!

Come to think of it, Bain probably was the least interesting minifig in both the Hobbit and LotR themes. Very poor choice indeed.

I see alot of blu rays being on clearance because of this guy...

I wish i could see that, too. Unfortunately these DVD exclusives are never available in my country and the only way to get them is buying them from private resellers...

Maybe it is not the end of the middle earth, maybe just a clue of the futur....

AAHAHAhahah funny joke.

Actually, no. Not funny.

I am disappointed, but I'm still gonna try to get that figure. It is a bit of a puzzling choice, certainly.

We often blame Lego for the lack of more Middle Earth sets. But the sad truth is it is the intermediate customers, the big box stores, who really were not that interested in the product line. Target and Walmart got burned badly by a lot of the Hobbit TUJ merchandise (not so much Lego, but everything else.) even with the stuff that they did not end up bargain bin blowing out on clearance, it was hitting outside their desired target market for that shelf space. The Middle Earth sets tended to trend older, which becomes a problem for the merchant as something younger trending such as Chima generates more repeat and growth sales. In other words even when the Hobbit sets are selling, it is the wrong people who are buying them. Target and Walmart expect those people to be across the store in the video games and consumer electronics aisle. They expect the young uns to be buying from the shelf space that the Hobbit is sitting in.

Retail can be complicated and often seemingly insane.

A good point. For about the past year I have almost never spotted Middle Earth LEGO in Wal-Mart. It's pretty sad. After all this, honestly the only thing I'm holding out for is a Minas Tirith exclusive or something of the like.

Bain is definitely not who I would have chosen - I really like Bain in the movie, but he's not one who needs a minifig. Alfrid would be easily done without using new parts. Oh well.

I don't understand the desire for a Sauron fig, honestly. Everything that makes him cool and mysterious is the fact that he never has a truly solid form in the age. Having a LEGO minifig of him would feel wrong.

Bain!!??? :wall:

I'm really glad I read this post before seeing the one Just2good made on page 216, otherwise I would have been miiiiiighty disappointed when unveiling that picture  I can't believe they missed this opportunity to give us something more interesting... The only hope now is a DK book, but I'm not all that optimistic since the respective minifig that'd come with it would certainly have been leaked by now if there was one :cry_sad: Kinda reminds me of the way the Harry Potter license ended

The blue Bilbo minifigure from 'An unexpected Journey' had the same casing and was a target-exclusive - so I think Bain will be a exclusive with the DVD release of Bo5A...

Knowing this, we know that this is (most likely) our Target DVD release exclusive. What other opportunities are there for exclusives? Maybe a DK book or something to accompany the DLC if it happens? Also, is the Target DVD Release Exclusive the only DVD Release Exclusive?

Seeing how the minifig comes with a wb product I would kinda imagine the decision was not completely made by TLG.

I also wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a DK book. There is a much better chance of a middle earth DVD set.

Wow. After the first wave of LoTR and the Hobbit, the Middle Earth lines were really poorly handled IMO. So many missed opportunities. And this exclusive fig might be the worst choice yet. :hmpf_bad::wacko:

It looks like this Bain minifigure is just Bain without bis green cloak from DoS. So the figure isn't even related to Bo5A (I don't remember Bain wearing that outfit in the movie)....

That Bain minifigure is like the middle

finger as Lego drops the mic and walks away from the Middle-earth theme. Truly disappointing.

Couldn't agree more,Lego really dropped the ball since 2012 on both themes. Edited by LOTR34

I do like the figure (he wears it in DoS) but I agree that if this is last thing form Hobbit/Lotr theme, they should give us something we still dont have.. Bolg or Thrain or proper Sauron.

Shame but I hope that I will be able to get him, these figs are ussualy expensive for no reason. Like Blue coated Bilbo or Bilbo in night outfit. Thats just riddiculous.
