Batsy Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 What will come after the New York Toy Fair? Is there something before SDCC? Quote
Disco_Jedi Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Does LEGO have SDCC exclusives? Yes, they have had many DC exclusives and 2 Hobbit ones. Last year was Azog, the year before was a Bilbo figure. Quote
Deathleech Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 (edited) So after looking at all the info we have for the upcoming wave, I believe more than ever in my "second wave split" theory. I think Lego definitely split their second Hobbit wave into two so they could accommodate the film split. First off at least a few sets from TABA seem to be based on the DoS movie. The Erebor set with Smaug sounds like the end of DoS scene for scene. The Lake-town add on set also seems like it might be based on DoS, but I can't say without more info. I can only assume it's based on DoS though since Smaug won't be in it and there shouldn't be any other action in Lake-town besides that. Possibly it is covering the orcs fighting Legolas and Tauriel? The sets are also being released in October which would of been a few months after TABA was originally going to be released (you figure the Lego sets usually get released a few weeks to a month early). More importantly though, there don't seem to be hardly any set price points over lapping. If you combine wave two and three based on the info we have, it's like every set is intentionally a different price. DoS sets in red, TABA in green: Witch King/Galadrial/Elrond Set - $12.99 Dol Guldur Ambush - $19.99 Mirkwood Elf Army - $29.99 Lake-town Add On - $29.99-39.99(?) Lake-town Chase - $49.99 Bo5A set - $59.99 Dol Guldur Battle - $69.99 Smaug at Erebor - $129.99 The ONLY possible over lap is the $30 set. I am guessing this could be an extra set Lego had to make later on to fill out a wave so there weren't only three sets released in it. The second Hobbit wave was more the mid-range sets but missed the lowest and highest priced ones, while the third wave seems to cover both of those. All of this seems like a little too much of a coincidence for me. I mean the first and second Hobbit waves had material STRICTLY from the corresponding films (or stuff made up by Lego based on the films). Why change now? And why change the December release date? And most importantly, why do both waves miss some major price points but when combined they form a nice, rounded wave? This gives me hope we will still see a final LotR wave next year. If we do, hopefully it will have a $20 set, a $30 Gondor army builder, a $40-50 (Balrog?), and a $60-70 Osgiliath or Minas Tirith wall. Edited February 1, 2014 by Deathleech Quote
SMC Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 It did seem odd that LOTR missed the £20 set and the hobbit missed a £12 set. Lets just hope we will see more LOTR, I guess next up is finding out what the fig that comes with the game will be Quote
Shroffy123 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I think tauriel will be in the Bo5a set. I have this feeling her character will be killed in TABA, in attempt to say filli, killi, and thorin. Quote

Hope she has a different outfit and fresh facial prints, at least, if we're going to get a repeat character. Quote

Shroffy123 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 If Elrond is in the witchking set, I hope he looks like a pretty standard elf. By that I mean more polybag elrond, and not council elrond like we got last wave. I'd like to buy multiples and build a nice elf army Quote

Darth Caedus Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Well reports did say Elrond was like polybag gamestop version so that means he will be in similar armor to AUJ. Clearly a prelim version - final will be in the red Armor from AUJ. Which is similar in pattern, just not in color to the Last Alliance Elves. Quote
Shroffy123 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 How are you sure the final will be the red armor worn in auj? Quote
MrErikku Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 How are you sure the final will be the red armor worn in auj? Most likely because he'll be wearing armor of some kind, (because of what everyone's said) and that was the armor that he wore previously. I think it'd be strange if he had new armor. Quote
Albus Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Great analysis Deathleech! I definitely think the same about the splitting of the waves, and remain confident that late-2014/early-2015 will see a third LOTR wave. Quote

I definitely think the same about the splitting of the waves, and remain confident that late-2014/early-2015 will see a third LOTR wave. Thanks Albus. There are of course other indicators pointing to this too like the total lack of Gondor-themed stuff, but I was just mentioning the Hobbit ones in this thread. I am really hopeful we will see a third LotR wave next year after the Hobbit one is released. I think the only thing that might have/will alter Lego's schedule is really poor wave two LotR sales. I just hope they realize wave two wasn't a terribly strong wave and don't do something like that prematurely Quote
Cammo Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Saw this on this Banshee from Avatar by Reekardoo on the Sci-Fi forum, looks awesome and would make an ideal base for a low budget Fellbeast-set in my opinion: Quote

Cammo Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) Oops, sorry for that... Anyway my guess on the exclusive minifigure that comes with the game is Bilbo in his robe when Dwalin knocks on the door or this: Edited February 2, 2014 by Cammo Quote

Mahtion Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) Based on Lego past actions and marketing. Only 4 possible TABA sets. We have enough DoS from wave 1 preview and wave 2. Erebor or lonely mountain needs to cover more than just end of DoS. Bolg could appear in BoFA set but Lego usually uses expensive sets for molds like Azog in Dol Guldur Battle. We do not know how PJ will change the location of battle anyway. Most of it occurs in Dale but maybe some could happen in Erebor while Thorin is held up to avoid the lake men and Mirkwood elves from taking some treasure. Also other than Smaug no other villains would appear, I haven't seen that happen much in Lego. It is all conjecture, guesswork but based on probability and established patterns/behavior. SMC Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 I agree we have seen a lot of DoS sets with the ones from the first wave, I would like know what figs they will come up with for erebor as the options dont seem great Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 According to Zzz, the Hobbit sets weren't on display at the Nuremberg Toy Fair (big shock, I know ), which concludes a quite disappointing week. So the discussion here stays dead for another two weeks Quote
