Faefrost Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Based on Lego past actions and marketing. Only 4 possible TABA sets. We have enough DoS from wave 1 preview and wave 2. Erebor or lonely mountain needs to cover more than just end of DoS. Bolg could appear in BoFA set but Lego usually uses expensive sets for molds like Azog in Dol Guldur Battle. We do not know how PJ will change the location of battle anyway. Most of it occurs in Dale but maybe some could happen in Erebor while Thorin is held up to avoid the lake men and Mirkwood elves from taking some treasure. Also other than Smaug no other villains would appear, I haven't seen that happen much in Lego. It is all conjecture, guesswork but based on probability and established patterns/behavior. I think the most established pattern of Lego's behavior is quite simply that there is rarely if ever any pattern. At least not in the ways we often seek to understand it. Our greatest failing is our undying assumption that .lego attempts or even feels the need to cover everything. They haven't pulled that off for SW in 15 years. They certainly never made the attempt with Harry Potter or PotC. Whatever makes us think they would attempt to do so here. Lego's pattern is to release fun playable subjects that work well in Lego, are easily differentiated from one another by the common folk on store shelves (not by rabid Tolkien fans.) and hit a given range of price points and set sizes. They service retail needs not collector desires. It is joyous when these two things run together. But they are not always the case (see LotR, Pirate Ship) I still maintain that it is doubtful at best that we will see a Bolg minifig this wave. His design changed very late in the game. So late that most other toy makers had red bearded versions of him out for DoS. The fact that the concept art they were given to work with does not actually in any way match what is on screen, has a good possibility of them just saying "brick it!" And tossing another regular Orc in instead. And really, it's not like anyone watching the movie, without pre existing knowledge, really knew or paid attention to Bolg's name. He didn't get a lot of expository dialogue the way Azog did. He was just a big bad Orc leader. They will not be real anxious to do a custom Bolg mold at this late stage. Now if they think that they can reuse the Azog mold with a different color and printing? That's a whole different story. Quote
CM4Sci Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 According to Zzz, the Hobbit sets weren't on display at the Nuremberg Toy Fair (big shock, I know ), which concludes a quite disappointing week. So the discussion here stays dead for another two weeks Impossible, this thread gets at least 10+ pages a day. -Sci Quote
deskp Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) lego has made an obvious effort in regards to characters in the hobbit line. And it makes so little sense if wave 3 would be mostly all old characters with new prints. Unless they intend on covering bo5a participants in the bo5a set, why would they make a 2. laketown set? when that could have been used as a bo5a add on/army builder. SandMirror38 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Prehaps the sets are being finished up for NYTF Quote

egg roller Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I agree with all of what faefrost wrote. It isn't as fun to think of tlg as a business with a bottom line, but as frost outlined, they serve other powers. BUT, we have seen nothing of the coming wave. It might be awesome. Quote

azog15 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 It would be really stupid of them to not give us a Bolg. Quote

I think it really depends on what Peter Jackson did with him in the third films. If PJ kept it like the book where Bolg is the main one leading the goblin army and has a big duel with Thorin, Fili, Kili, and later Beorn, I think the chances of seeing him are pretty good. If Azog takes on most of these scenes then I could see Lego easily passing Bolg up. Quote
kevkipo Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 It would be really stupid of them to not give us a Bolg. Yeah kinda, i guess Quote
Alcarin Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 It would be really stupid of them to not give us a Bolg. Not really since Bolg and Azog are mangled by PJ.... I still found no logical reason why we need both in a movie .... Why couldnt Azog just die in that battle and Bolg taking the screen.... its really dumb by PJ... useless changes all over! Quote

Why couldnt Azog just die in that battle and Bolg taking the screen.... its really dumb by PJ... useless changes all over! Useless for who really? I enjoyed Azogs character in the movie as well as I enjoyed the book itself many years ago. I think that Ii dont have to explain you the differences between book and movie and also I think that its waste of time to argue what was better. Its a PJ. And its his movie, and maybe we dont see the logic, but I bet that he has some plans with both of those characters, so wait until the third part of the movie came out and then complain :) Yeah kinda, i guess They give us Bolg, there is no doubt. We will se Bolg, Dain II Ironfoot, Smaug and probably Bain. The rest is for now in shadows :) Quote
SandMirror38 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Prehaps Bolg is the video-game exclusive? Quote
Durins Bane Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 But either bolg or azog should have died in dos... i think. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 @Alcarin: Azog was kept alive because of the revenge subplot Bolg wouldn't have fit that role since he doesn't have a personal conflict with Thorin (and vice versa). Personally, I like that change since giving us two menacing bad-még@bløcks Orc leaders is better than one And both taking part in the Bo5A sounds awesome to me too @Sandmirror38: I don't think so, he surely requires a new mold so that definitely rules him out as the videogame exclusive minifig Expect a minifig that just requires new prints and/or old parts in new colors (e.g. old Bilbo). Personally, I like that change since giving us two menacing bad-még@bløcks Orc leaders is better than one And both taking part in the Bo5A sounds awesome to me too Azog was seeking revenge because Thorin cut off his arm. In the book Bolg was seeking it because Dain killed his father (Azog). Both were seeking revenge and hated the dwarves, just for different reasons. Personally I agree with Alcarin. I don't see much point in having both Azog and Bolg in the films. I mean I guess it's more personal with Azog hunting Thorin rather than Bolg just hating all dwarves/Dain, but in the end it's really a useless sub plot just added to give the films more run time. Honestly I was expecting Azog to die at the end of AuJ, or surely sometime in DoS. I thought he might be in the Dol Guldur Battle and die there. I wonder how it will work out in TABA now? Will Azog also be at the Bo5A? Will Bolg? Will Azog die before? So far we haven't seen any major characters die in the first two Hobbit films... the last one is going to be choke full of death! Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 @Deathleech: I don't think it's useless since it's pretty obvious Thorin and Azog will have a final confrontation (and probably end up killing one another) Azog will surely take part in the Bo5A not only because of that, but also because Sauron himself appointed him as leader of his armies and it'd be pretty pointless to kill off the leader of an army before he even gets to command it This way, Thorin's death will also be way more cinematic than in the book, where he just gets killed while trying to get past Bolg's bodyguards (which is pretty lame and anti-climatic I think ). Quote
Robert_88 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I agree. The death of Azog would have been a good end for AUJ. I read LotR after seeing the movies and I was content with most of the changes PJ made. I didn't read the Hobbit but I hope the changes he made are similar and not extreme. Quote
SandMirror38 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) x2 post :/ Move on! Edited February 3, 2014 by SandMirror38 Quote
Robert_88 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Another reason why he shouldn't have survived AUJ. Quote
SandMirror38 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Not extreme???? Azog is NOT in the Hobbit apart from being refernced twice But- ah but Niether is Radagast! Again merley referneced ONCE! Everything after bag end is a mix of book and PJ. Mainly PJ until Rivendell and the 99% # Quote
SandMirror38 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 STILL! Radagast wasn't running around with stick insects in his mouth was he??? Let me just say that story wise I Kindof hate the Hobbit movies. The designs and everything are amazing but the story is so butchered it barley makes sense with itself Quote
