deskp Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) Don't understand why they didnt print the guards/soldiers here, they should be the same as the pre order ones.. Thror looks cute but they overdid his beard.. Why lego is so into sand green I don't know. I find erebor looks much mroe like dark green. (the erebor lego set is also said to be sand green) http://cdn.akamai.st...pg?t=1396496463 Also, this is propably NOT the direct bilbo print we'll get. Because the coat is exact copy of bard's printe but in blue with changed insides. Lego doesen't really do that much, despite target bilbo. http://cdn.akamai.st...pg?t=1396496463 maybe thats a hint we might get bilbo with mithril undershirt instead of scarf in the set. Oooor they jsut don't have lego's designs fromt he sets Edited April 3, 2014 by deskp Quote
kevkipo Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Wow those look great! Is that again a Facebook post? Now that i see the Throne i really think they will make that in the set, It really looks set like I still don't understand what Bofur is doing there... not that i don't like it Bofur is awesome :D Thrain looks meh... But Thror looks good :D The soldiers are good for me :) But i have to say that this is NOT Bard's torso, it is different... and the fur is off course there! it is Lake-Town! Every clothing is the same ragged there And also Elrond: Quote
Floundie Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) Wow I really hope that's the throne we'll get in the set. My version from a while back was a lot smaller, now that i'm at it i might as well show the whole MOC. Basically it's a rough and unfinished idea of what an Erebor gate playset could look like. I know the throne is in a weird place but I wanted to fit it in there somewhere. Btw I realized the rock part above the throne looked like crap, I removed it later. Again, VERY ROUGH IDEA. Oh and deskp just because you love sand green: Also what's with the Dwalin clones in the first pic you posted? And about Bilbo, the torso printing is definitely almost identical to Bard's besides the scarf. It's still pretty accurate and I'm positive that's the version will see in the Erebor set. BrickBob Studpants Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Thror and Thrain both look great, now I really hope to see them in the Erebor set, chronological inaccuracies aside What good is a throne for if you don't have anyone to sit on it? Quote
Smeagol314 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Well, we kinda have a picture of Bolg! He's just...hiding behind a chef hat. Quote
Infernum Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Huh, they're going Darth Maul style with Bolg... Quote
deskp Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 (edited) That bolg i majorly ddissapointing, iff we get him in a set he should be made like Azog. He is is fathers son and in the movie they are of similar shape. Did they make Bolg light grey? once again he should be same color as his dad. certainly not paler?! He looks like a decent figure on his own, but since they made Azog another way this does not match up and therefor is kindof bad. btw i said bilbo had bard's COAT in blue, with the inside different(west and scarf) wich is waht he have, even the small lines on the fur are exactly the same. Edited April 4, 2014 by deskp Quote
Infernum Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Bolg has one of the new Orc shoulder pads too. Quote
deskp Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Bolg has one of the new Orc shoulder pads too. Fun fact, that piece was made for original design Bolg. Why they are not "printing" the claws on Bolg's is anyones guess.. Quote
kevkipo Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Now that i see Bolg... they can leave him out of BO5A set for me :P Well ok he's pretty decent, but i also expected a new design of Azog But where's Azogs claw in this? Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 (edited) Personally, I really like the design An Azog-like piece would have been tricky to design because of the shoulder pads and claws Too bad though we can't see the whole minifig, why do they have to keep teasing us like that? Edited April 4, 2014 by Lego-Freak Quote
KristofBD Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Well I will be very happy if they use this design for Bolg. The Azog design is just ugly and non-lego I find. Quote
deskp Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 An Azog-like piece would have been tricky to design because of the shoulder pads and claws Not at all, they would just 'replace' the shoulders with the armor and claws. Infact it would end up looking alot more natural than Azog does. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 @deskp: That would work too. I thought you meant the same mold as Azog but with different printing If they had taken that route the metal plates probably would have turned out to be quite an ordeal since printing molds like Azog's all the way round surely can't be easy The colour is just right I think, in the film he's gray-ish as well. I'm wondering however how they've designed his face, mainly his left eye. The Orc minifigs not featuring pupils certainly doesn't make depicting a blind eye any easier Quote

Lego has gotten great at printing, jsut look at radagast's hat/beard, thranduils hair/crown, bofurs hat/hair, laktown guards helmets etc. Bolg is the same color as his father, lego chouse to make Azog tan so they should follow that through with Bolg. DOS the movie is less saturated than AUJ It just feels like they pay no attention to the fact that these orcs are related.. The lego game will proapbly throw in alot of bad father/son jokes but the design does not work out. Also in the movie Bolg's metal plates have kindof grown into his head, but the lego wearsion is like some hat thing sitting on top. -also best look at smaug yet.Theres a whole lot of inaccuracies going on, making Smaug very unimpressive. He should have been magnificent but ends up being kindof meh, hate it when lego disapoints... Edited April 4, 2014 by deskp Quote
Seaber Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Also, the Orc on the left is Narzug (the one captured then beheaded). He has different face and torso prints to the regular Gundabad Orcs. It would be cool if he was made physically, but as he's dead, I doubt he's in a TABA set. Also, I'm colourblind so I'm not sure if the colours are right, but could the CMS Elf be used as a basis for the Mirkwood Palace Guards. I'm not sure what helmet could be used, but the veil over the mouth could just be painted or glued on. We already have the shield, and I'd like a character to hold it! Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 (edited) @deskp: Thanks for the picture, love it  I think it looks very accurate, apart from the length of some of the spikes http://img4.wikia.no...maug's_Head.JPG The chest with the gold coins stuck between the scales looks great as well Edited April 4, 2014 by Lego-Freak Quote
wesker Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 There's one thing that concerns me about Smaug (assuming this is the version we're getting) and thats the wings. The connection to the ball joint looks VERY thin and could snap very easily. It might have been better just using click hinges like the Castle dragons. Quote
deskp Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 (edited) @deskp: Thanks for the picture, love it  I think it looks very accurate, apart from the length of some of the spikes Legos lips meet way lower than they should. lego got a way too big middle spike. too small main side spikes. The scales on his chest are genric when in the movie they have a fairly distinct pattern. And they really should have invested some more into brown printing around his face.. look his upper lip is the same height as his nostrils, and who knows why they added an extra spike thing udner his eye.. lego rounded him off way too much. Lego has cat way too many corner creating smaug. on top of that due to his teeeth we propably wont be able to clsoe his mouth REALY. Edited April 4, 2014 by deskp Quote
SMC Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 the leg printing looks to be the same as the currant dragon and that is the only thing I don't like as when they are next to each other you will see lego just used the same legs other then that I am happy with it you have to remember it is built for play not as a exact replica but not to say they shouldn't make it look the same but for me I'm just looking forward to adding to my collection of large molded creators Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Well I will be very happy if they use this design for Bolg. The Azog design is just ugly and non-lego I find. Like Chewbaca and a lot more... Azog is one of the best lego minifig based on LOTR or Hobbit. That Bolg on that screenshot looks really weird, and I hope that he will not look like that in original sets... Quote
Gibbon Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 The Bolg figure on the screenshot is absolutely disappointing and I reall hope that finally Lego is to make it with a different version. This one is lacking every aspect of fantasy and it is simply a painfully boring minifig. It reminds me to the useless Yazneg fig of the first Hobbit wave. They should make it more similar to the Azog fig as Bolg is even higher in the movie than his father is. Anyway I like the orc with a pony tail? on the left. Quote
deskp Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 (edited) They should make it more similar to the Azog fig as Bolg is even higher in the movie than his father is. Bolg is sligthly shorter in the movie. go back and watch it. its jsut that intitial camera angle favors Bolg. Perspective and all that far as lego is concerned they should be same height Edited April 4, 2014 by deskp Quote

Perspective and all that far as lego is concerned they should be same height Sorry, my memories might be wrong, I tried to remember to the scene with Bolg and Azog meeting each other at Dol Guldur, and I had the memory of Bolg being slightly higher than Azog, but you might be correct and perhaps it is only a question of the camera angle. Anyway I see absolutely no reason to make Bolg to a normal sized Lego fig. He should be same sized as Azog with the same kind of head set-up. This kind of Bolg would be a big disappointment. Quote
