Floundie Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Do you mean the black spikes on his back? There are plenty around already, so speaking formyself I don't need it. But It's a good bonus to see more pictures. Yeah on his back. They just don't look right IMO. I just thought you'd want pictures because we haven't seen back printing or even what it looks like in the flesh...plastic? Quote

bachamn Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 (edited) I want the Bilbo figure, but I won't have time for the game. I guess I could ask if they have any they can give away (or) I can slip some money under the table... Back when I was picking up my LEGO LotR/2nd Age Elrond minifig I asked the store clerk what they usually do with the extra figures. He said once they take care of all the preorder customers, if they have any left they usually just give them away to other customers buying the game, or take them home themselves if the manager isn't working. I hinted that I'd buy some extras from him "under the table" but he just kind of laughed. I'm sure you could find one on BL or eBay; I think at the onset of the Elrond figure release they were averaging something like $20-30 each and now you can get one for close to $10. I'd imagine the same thing will happen with this version of Bilbo. Unless you're approaching this from an uber-PJ/Weta loyalty perspective, who cares? Movie Smaug is just an interpretation and also differs from the book (legitimate/canon) version. If you want to split hairs, you could point out all the many ways that movie/LEGO Smaug doesn't look like this: I think they did a decent enough job based on these CG renderings. OIC so for the record Mouth of Sauron looks childisch too, orcs and uruks as well same as rest of characters from Lotr and Hobbit right? So basically acording to your logic someone who has 12 years for example, knows almost everything about internet, games, soft drugs and masturbation is a KID who deserves to have only toys? :D and who says that lego is limited by age? Its jisty opinion that in contrast of the rest figs from this theme or subtheme or whatever Smaug looks weird and childish like a baby dragon not as archevil character. Thats it. Deal with it, people has opinions lile you do, so stay calm and be polite to others please. :) thanks. Quote

Floundie Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I don't even know what you guys are arguing about. But here are some pics: The head is actually swapped from my other Bilbo, the one that came with this had atrocious eye printing. I have to say I didn't expect the torso to be in dark orange, but it's a nice color choice. The torso and arm printing looks terrific and has fancy metallic printing in places. All in all a great fig! Quote
wesker Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Looks like a fantastic figure. Thanks for the pics. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 @Floundie: Looks great Too bad I have to bricklink him (haven't done THAT in a while ) since Swiss Gamestop decided to only offer the minifig as a preorder bonus for the XBox 360 and XBone versions Traitors... Quote
large88 Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Yeah that minifig looks great Just ordered one from Ebay The printing is great. It is a must have for any Bag End creation. Quote

I didnt twist anything, i just wrote that THAT DRAGON on a poster looks weird, becouse of some aspect that I criticise. Thats it. And you stands against my opinion try to explain me thats this is ok, becaouse some misplaced thought that lego is "onlyů for kids in some age... And I disagree. And honestly I am not anybodys lad, and I didn like your attitude to me. But dont take my post personally basicly we are on the same ship dont we? :) Keep it civil, please. Legoman123 Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 (edited) I haven't really followed this topic lately, so I just want to know if there is any information on this years wave? Edited April 8, 2014 by Legoman123 Quote

KristofBD Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 (edited) Lego has the movie lisence, and it's about movie accuracy, what the book/tolkien did doesen't matter. Lego isn't supposed to make a new interptation, they are suppsoed to legofy what was done in the movie. I tend to agree with Bachamn: this seems to be a very nice dragon that more than reasonably resembles movie Smaug. If you had not pointed me to the three spikes, I actually would not have noticed it... I agree with your Bolg and Bain criticisms, but I am very happy with this Smaug version. Besides, LEGO is not about perfect accuracy, I mean this is LEGO: it has studs, it is blockish, obviously it is not a perfect match! Edited April 8, 2014 by KristofBD Quote
bachamn Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 (edited) what the book/tolkien did doesen't matter. Lego isn't supposed to make a new interptation, they are suppsoed to legofy what was done in the movie. My point was that the LEGO version is going to vary slightly from the movie version because it's adapting the charcter from a full-scale CG masterpiece to a toyline that is known for having limited details and form factor. In the same way the movie version was bound to be different from the original sketching that Tolkien provided, which was of course an interpretation limited on his ability to illustrate what he pictured in his mind to be Smaug when he was writing it. With that in mind, it seems silly to me to gripe about how one of the horns is proportionally longer than it was in the movie. It's gone through multiple artistic interpretations and creative processes to get to that point. As long as a consumer can look at it and say "Oh, that's a LEGO version of Smaug from the Hobbit", they've accomplished their ultimate goal. I don't get that impression from the other LEGO dragons. Also, I know you probably meant it in a different way, but to say that what Tolkien did doesn't matter in a thread about the Hobbit is blaspheme ;) Edited April 8, 2014 by bachamn Quote
deskp Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Besides, LEGO is not about perfect accuracy, I mean this is LEGO: it has studs, it is blockish, obviously it is not a perfect match! But they should not change design features, smaugs horns are sepearated into a block one ach side, giving them an ear-type feel to the design, lego's addition makes it seem like a circle, wich gives him a whole diferent feel to what is intended, it's like adding a unibrow to a characther that does not have it.. Quote
wesker Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Honestly I never even noticed the horns being inacurrate. Quote
bachamn Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I replied and forgot that I'd actually come by to share this unboxing video of the Target DoS blu-ray with the Legolas polybag that someone just posted. I couldn't get it to embed...does the Special BBcode 'Media' not work with a Youtube link? I frequent another forum running this same software and it works fine. Quote
