Blazej_Holen Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I guess? Now i want to point to Blazej_Holen It seems that i have misunderstood you the whole time, i hope you can forget my posts to you from the past sorry. With what? :) Regarding that I´ve said that this topic is dead right now? It is dead in a way, no news from the 2014 october sets, and there is stil plenty of time that we have to wait until we´ll get some serious info. So thats why I said that :) I know that there is plenty of other things to discuss but honestly, nothing extra interesting, this is second reason why i said that... Quote

Wardancer Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) I wonder if its a good idea to sell my Hungarian Horntail now. Surely the advent of Smaug will lead to a severe deflation in prices for dragons as he will be very detailled and cheap to have, Or will it be the other way around? Will people suddenly look for more dragons to accompany their smaugs? Will I be rich?! Edited May 5, 2014 by Wardancer Quote

Will people suddenly look for more dragons to accompany their smaugs? Will I be rich?! Lol Why is it you say cheap? I'd expect Smaug to be quite expensive on the market. Wouldn't people want to take advantage of the fact that he comes in a $130 set? Quote

I dont know i u wull be rich but as Deskp says, this is not right place to ask, check Bricklink for the prices and try to sell it or keep it its up to you :) Quote
Wardancer Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) Thanks for reminding me which places are for what. I must have forgotten, I should have consulted the topic police before. I thought discussing the impact of a new dragon model on the other dragon's prizes was an appropriate topic. Aren't we a joyous bunch? Floundie, I must have misread the set information, I thought Smaug came in a cheaper set. This changes my plans. Thanks. Edited May 5, 2014 by Wardancer Quote

Floundie, I must have misread the set information, I thought Smaug came in a cheaper set. This changes my plans. Thanks. It is indeed that Smaug comes in the 130 dollar set, the cheapest Horntail on Bricklink goes for 100 dollars right now so you could score some money on selling it now. altough i would wait if i where you my father always said 'the older an item is, the more value it gets' so it is your choice Quote
Wardancer Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I can't believe these prices on bricklink. Even the regular green dragon goes up to 60 Euro. Maybe I should start treating mine better. But this has nothing to do with LOTR, so we'd better change the subject. I have spent a lot of time for chasing dragons for good prices, that is why I wondered how this will be when another very detailled dragon comes out. If a Smaug costs 30-40 Euro, it will not change the other prizes much I guess. I would have enjoyed seeing dragon-themed armies with lots of Smaugs and other dragons, but with these prizes this is not very likely. Anyway, this leads to even more speculation, which might not really bring up innovative topics for this thread. Quote
bachamn Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) my father always said 'the older an item is, the more value it gets' If only this were true. I believe my MTG, comic book, and baseball card collections have done nothing but depreciate in value since 1994. Edited May 5, 2014 by bachamn Quote

Wardancer Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Ok, while we are talking about Smaug, here is something for the Lego historians among us: Has there ever been a 1) bigfig or special animal mould, which is 2) iconic and in 3) the biggest set of a theme which is 4) licensed? I cannot think of any. The T-Rex in Dino comes close, but that is not licensed. Any ideas? If not, Smaug is the first in that category. Quote
Floundie Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 ^Can't think of any. Another Smaug related thing, you guys might like to see these comparison pics I made. (Movie VS Lego version) Quote
Spider-Man Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 ^Can't think of any. Another Smaug related thing, you guys might like to see these comparison pics I made. (Movie VS Lego version) Those were really helpful. I feel like the LEGO version's head is a little off? It seems to rounded and the horn "crown" is completely different (as stated by deskp multiple times). Quote
Floundie Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 ^^ I'm thinking of the Goblin King.. Well Goblin king is in the same theme, not to mention a less expensive set. Those were really helpful. I feel like the LEGO version's head is a little off? It seems to rounded and the horn "crown" is completely different (as stated by deskp multiple times). Yeah some angles look good, others not. I honestly think he would look better in reddish brown, with dark brown detailing. His neck is another thing that bothers me, It's just too thin and not long enough. When you think about it all of his proportions are wrong, especially the head. It's hard to tell just how good he will look until we see him in the plastic though. (Here's hoping for an SDCC reveal!) bachamn Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I believe the comics and baseball cards have some worth? but like Wardancer said, lets change the subject :P There's a difference between depreciation and lack of value. Yes, they have some, but much less than they did 20 years ago. But yes, please let's get back to the empty speculation and wishlists ;) Quote
kevkipo Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 But yes, please let's get back to the empty speculation and wishlists ;) Yeah empty speculation... Maybe we can just all posts our expectations/wishes about the sets? that would make waiting less painfull? Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Thats already been there but yes, it will be more amusing that this plain posts :) Thumbs up :) Anyway I just expect nice house-buildings in BoFA set, but then I remind myself that this set will have only 470 pcs, so that means we will see one building and one "something" like in LTC... And then of course I expect nice Lake town addiction with windlance and hopefully Alfrid minifig (which suits to any medieval village) and maybe Bard in armour (bluecoat version from video game) and some more lake town soldiers-rag tag wariors. I am kind of guy who likes mocs very much, but then I like original sets more (thats why I am kinda unable to create something big, becouse almost all bricks I have are in sets which I have completed and builded) so I apreciate any add ons to my Lake town :) Quote
Floundie Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 My expectations: 79015 Dol Guldur: Elrond, Galadriel, Witch-king. Small bit of ruined structure with dumb play feature. (I predict Witch-king catapult) 79016 Lake-town Defense: Bard (blue coat), Bain (same torso as game, new face, long legs, and brown Luke Skywalker hair), Alfrid (same as game), Bolg. (with molded head) A tower about as tall as the main building in LTC with spring loaded Windlance. 79017 Battle of Dale: Dain, Thranduil in armor, Iron hill dwarf x2, Armored elf x2, Armored Orc x2, and one Lake Town soldier. The main set is two buildings the size of the LTC one, with a wall collapsing feature. Also included are a Reddish brown Warg and an Eagle. 79018 Erebor: Bilbo (Lake town with Mithril shirt), And armored versions of Thorin, Kili, Fili, Balin, Dwalin, Bofur, Ori, and Gloin. And of course Smaug. With lots of gold, the king's throne with arkenstone, and part of the forges. Quote
kevkipo Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 That indeed sounds perfect, but i would change the Erebor part No Kili, Fili and Bofur... for me at least that wouldn't make sense. and why did you choose the random Ori and Gloin? I think an Armored Ori is the last thing i want :P but those are of course your choises! Quote
