I just realized that we haven't been given any proper set names. That's kinda strange, given that usually the set names are provided with the displays.

Same. But I'm kinda glad it's not too big a set. If the build itself isn't too huge, but the price sits at $50 or something, that means that the Smaug mold won't be too small. But we don't have price points yet, only general ideas based on previous patterns.

I'm excited and fearful for how the Windlance will be made. A flick-fire would be lame, and it seems that this year LEGO is making use of the new spring-shooting missiles in many of the new SW sets. Perhaps they'll make a spring-shooting missile with the tip shaped like an arrow? That'd be cool, and it seems like the spring-shooting mechanism works way better than the flick-fires ever did.

It will probably be something like the balista's along the side rails of the Pirate Ship, just with the new spring shooter brick replacing the Flick Fire and technic hole brick.

I really hope Beorn isn't in the BO5A set. If the set is intended to be an army builder, I'd rather see a Warg or Eagle than a bear. If LEGO makes a special mold for Beorn, I'd prefer him to be included in a set that's meant as a one-time purchase.

Hopefully the BO5A set doesn't end up having Dain, Beorn, Bolg, and only a few soldiers. That'd be a pretty lame army builder. I have faith in the designers. They seem to know what the fans want; heck, MEA basically only exists to serve an army builder's wants and needs!

I wonder if and armored Thranduil will pop up anywhere. I doubt it, but it would be cool. One thing I wish LEGO could've included on their Thranduil fig was his burns and scars from the First Age. If that had been part of his angry face printing, he would've been a much more menacing fig.

I would agree with you if not for the fact it includes Thranduil who has hair that is about as distinct as it comes. Uruk-hai Army is a much better army builder/example imo.

If the designers really knew what the fans wanted, they wouldn't have entirely left out Gondor at a point where the future of the theme is in question. Just my $.02.

Edit: Just realized this is the Hobbit thread. Can't keep up with the deluge of Middle-earth posts today. But the point still holds!

Don't feel bad. There'll be plenty of people there taking photos, and the Nuremberg fair sometimes likes to release little videos showcasing certain themes (the did it last year for the new Castle theme). If the displays are set up the same as the past few years, they'll likely have the sets set up on a cool, detailed table made to look like the terrain the sets are based on, and then have the figs standing in a circle on a spinning turntable.

Plus, FBTB and The Brick Show will give us plenty of coverage from the NY fair in February. FBTB always gets tons of pictures, and The Brick Show does a good job with video coverage.

I feel so happy you said that :) those clean germans :P

Do you think we will see a lot of The Hobbit minifigs?

If past fairs are any indication, then yes. We should see all of the new figs there. Whether or not The Hobbit gets the turntable treatment, I'm not sure. They don't do that for every theme, only two or three. But the figs will also be shown alongside the sets themselves in the display. We'll get pics from Nuremberg, but they won't be as extensive as what FBTB does in New York.

Still, Nuremberg will answer most of our questions. NY will allow for a more up-close and personal look at the sets.

If I'm not mistaken, the main difference between the Nuremberg fair and the NY fair is that Nuremberg doesn't allow people to touch the products on display, while in NY people are allowed to move the sets and pick up the figs to get better looks at them.

Maybe Beorn will be in a polybag? Maybe not. I could see him being popular with kids but without knowing what exactly he does in TABA it's hard to place him in a set. The Lonely mountain set seems unlikely, so either lake town or Bo5A.

I really doubt he'd be in a polybag. A bear (even the existing mold) is too big for a polybag, and polybag's don't ever include animals.

Its not like LEGO doesn't have an idea of what he does in TABA. Sure, PJ has made changes to the story, but every major thing from the book is still essentially in the films. We all know Beorn fights at the BO5A and has a particular personal interest in Bolg. If LEGO doesn't showcase that somewhere in these sets, then I'm worried.

For some reason I am totally drawing a blank, but why didn't we get any info last year about the summer LotR line at any of these fairs? All I remember is some blurry pics being found around March/April showing off the sets and minifigures. Am I remembering things wrong?

We saw the four sets at the NY toy fair last year. I remember seeing all the pics on FBTB's flickr page.

Didn't they have the sets but were kept a,secret, for some reason? I do believe it was mentioned that there were secret areas this year at the London toy fair.

If there are secret areas then who is allowed to go in those areas?

Direct contracted buyers most likely. The secret or invite only displays are typically for licensed stuff that has some rigid NDA's attached. Such as for an upcoming movie, or for a totally unannounced license or product line that is still in development.

For Bolg, if we see him at all, it will probably be a recolor of the Azog head piece with a lot of printing to indicate the plates and such in his head. I doubt if we will see a new head for him at this point. Like the other toy companies, any that TLG would have designed would have most likely been of the red bearded version. We might simply see that one as an "Orc Officer" of some sort and no actual named Bolg.

I know I've brought this up at least three times so far, but here it is again: If TLG didn't care about Bolg's redesign, they would have released his old design in 79014  They didn't, so they obviously wanted to release the real deal

What I don't get is why the Witch King is in the Dol Guldur set and not Sauron, I personally would have preferred a Sauron.

I'm guessing its because Sauron doesn't actually have a physical form. Sure, he reveals himself to Radagast as this dark figure, and shows his armoured self to Gandalf, but those may have just been ways to show who he is. As of right now, he is just billowy dark magic floating around. Its the spirit and consciousness of Sauron that survived the Battle of The Last Alliance at the end of the Second Age, so he can only exist like that without the Ring. I doubt he can actually become a physical being and fight the White Council himself, so he unleashes his servants on them.

And I know that people will argue that we saw him in his armour in DOS, but like I said, that was just him revealing himself to Gandalf. There was no actual person there, just visions and magic.

But Lego made him in his Necromancer form so surely they could make him in his armored form.

I gotta agree with Dr. Cogg, I would have MUCH prefered a Sauron over a twilight Witch King. If it was the normal black garb Witch King that might be another story, but the twilight version is just kind of "meh" in my mind. I am guessing Lego did it because the glow in the dark feature will be big with kids and he must have a big role against Elrond and Galadriel in TABA.
