SMC Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Absolutely LOTR... Hobbit has gotten such a great representation in Lego when compared to what's been released for LotR. MORE than enough for my liking. The final four sets will be fine, and really, be honest... what's left for them to make after wave 3? A bigger version of Dale or Erebor? I think not. LotR wave 2 SUCKED & the line still has too may holes: The Balrog, Treebeard, Witch King & Fell Beast, ANYTHING Gondor (be it Osgiliath or Minas Tirith), and even a Prologue set with a brick built Sauron similar to the X-Men Sentinel or GotG Groot. Anything just listed will SELL MUCH BETTER than more Hobbit sets. After wave 3 I am DONE with Hobbit along with everyone else. And in my opinion, the LotR trilogy BLOWS AWAY the Hobbit trilogy. It's SAD and PATHETIC Hobbit got a better more complete showing of Lego sets than LotR. It's a disgrace! couldn't agree more Quote
Blakstone Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 The fate of LEGO LotR was always tied to LEGO Hobbit. The disappearance if Hobbit merchandizing shows that this new trilogy hasn't become the sensation that LotR had been. The media landscape is a lot more crowded now. Frankly I think those fans are now the Game of Throne fans today. But it is a bit unfair to blame LEGO Hobbit for the fate of LEGO LotR. If they had done better sales, LEGO LotR would have prospered more too. Quote
SMC Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 (edited) but at the same time its not fair to blame LOTR for its own poor sales as odd as that sounds, wave 1 was good but 2 was a bit random and a bit so so, there were so many sets that would have sold like crazy and still could edit: sorry thought I was in LOTR topic Edited July 6, 2014 by SMC Quote
deskp Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 It's SAD and PATHETIC Hobbit got a better more complete showing of Lego sets than LotR. It's a disgrace! Without hobbit there would be no lotr lego at all so I disagree. It makes total sense. Quote

Could you please not ruin the fun of The Hobbit fans on a THE HOBBIT FORUM! It's not SAD and PATHETIC for the people who love The Hobbit, so please go and start whining on the LOTR forum instead of here. Im not starting to bring out a fight, but when you say things like this it goes to far, i hope a moderator checks this out. Quote
SMC Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I think one of the points was that the hobbit sets have given us a well rounded set of figs and have covered most of the movies so fans of the hobbit can be happy with what they have myself included but we have not got that for LOTR which is sad. So as a fan of both I would like to see a D2C for LOTR so that I would have a well rounded middle earth. Quote

Are you talking about Minifigures or sets now? i get your point but really do you expect any new figs in a D2C? And i agree we have a well rounded set of figs. I think TLC was more focusing on The Hobbit? Quote

And i agree we have a well rounded set of figs. I think TLC was more focusing on The Hobbit? Yes it is harder to get all the figs we need in a d2c but we have seen some (star wars) d2c that have a lot of figs and a gondor d2c could cover a lot of those me are missing I also think in terms of sets LOTR is missing more imporntant sceens which have been listed a lot of times now. One more LOTR wave would be great but if not a d2c would be good. If we did get a d2c for the hobbit I am not even sure what it would be that has not already been covered? Quote
J bij de W Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 For the Hobbit a huge Rivendell d2c would be nice. Quote
kevkipo Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 If we did get a d2c for the hobbit I am not even sure what it would be that has not already been covered? Well im with you there pal I would say maybe Thranduil's Hall? Beorn's House? not really that important but still it would be nice (maybe this is a lot to wish for but Iron Hills D2C? ) Quote
atreyu2112 Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Listen. I'm not calling out anyone or anything. I stated my opinion. If I offended anyone, it's not my problem. Don't misunderstand me. I LOVE what the Hobbit line has to offer. I actually have ALL of the sets and all but 2 on display (Goblin King ... It's just too big for my display, and Laketown). Add to that I will buy the 4 new sets day of release. I'm really excited to finally see them and have the opportunity to get them. Deskp ... I get what you are saying, that the Hobbit movies and theme were really the door for Lego to release LotR sets. But make no mistake, without the success of the LotR Trilogy, we'd have no Hobbit movies. So, it's all good. I disagree with you. No worries mate ... Cheers! SMC hit it, my post was mainly my reply to the possibility of another D2C set... Should it be a Hobbit or LotR set. I gave y'all my opinion and vented my frustration with how the LotR part of the theme has been handled compared to Hobbit. We're all Lego fans here. \m/-_-\m/ Quote
kevkipo Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 So maybe we can take a look back at last year SDCC? at what day of SDCC was the set revealed? the first the second or the third? The big question is on what day can we expect pictures? and are we clear there even will be a set!? (Omg thats the saddest thought ever ) Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 @kevkipo: If I remember correctly, the four sets were supposed to be revealed each on their own dedicated day (I think the order was TLM, SH, SW and Hobbit) but they were pretty much all shown on the same day (Wednesday or Thursday) You're right, we don't know for sure whether we'll get to see anything at all, it's just an inductive conclusion Quote

Beorn's House? not really that important but still it would be nice (maybe this is a lot to wish for but Iron Hills D2C? ) I think that if there will be some big D2C set it would be Rivendell, because it is iconic for both themes LOTR and Hobbit. There could be Elrond and Arwen from the previous set, and also TLC can add/reuse some Elven Knights in their iconic armour with helemts, if they add them already to Dale´s set from BOFA wave. As a special guest there could be Lindir minifig or old Bilbo :) Just main building with the painting of Sauron, library, and council room, maybe waterfall and trees with those orange, dark red and olive green leaves..just idea. Erebor is more like bunch of grey and green nothing special, and Dale...aproximately 2500 bricks is not much to represent a ruined city properly. Beorn´s house is not much for D2C even if they include his garden with those animals he has... Maybe Dol Guldur or Thranduils hall... but i prefere Rivendell :) Quote

BrickBob Studpants Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 (edited) The preview night takes place on Wednesday (at least it did the last two times) Edited July 7, 2014 by Lego-Freak Quote
atreyu2112 Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 I would hope to see pictures of at least one of the sets by Friday night, and then the rest by Sunday. I'm thinking (have a hunch) that PJ will make a surprise visit to SDCC to reveal the first teaser trailer for BoFA, and Lego will follow with reveals of all the sets. That would be awesome. Quote
Venkefedo Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 The preview night takes place on Wednesday (at least it did the last two times) They've had Preview Night on Wednesdays for over the last decade! …tho traditionally not much 'new' is shown from most toy lines that night (usually it depends on whether the toy line has a dedicated panel during the weekend, I suppose; for instance Hasbro will reveal new SW figures and Transformers in the display cases on the floor following the panels for those toys. I never paid attention to whether Lego did anything similar there) Quote
deskp Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 i think we usualy get pic of legos booth from preview night so if theres banners or wahtever of hobbit we migth get a sneakk at some minifig or soemthing on one of the banners. Quote

That'd be interesting, but I'm not sure it will happen. In 2012, they revealed Bag-End and the minifigures, and in 2013 the only revealed the whole Laketown set. No leaks in banners. Quote

Not really talking leaks. but they could have a banner like this for the 2014 hobbit sets. It'll be interesting to see how secretive lego want or has to be this year. I just hope we dont have to see this image anymore: http://www.fbtb.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/1463190_10151776010108403_1987251722_n.jpg In 2012 and 2013 they had 1 dc, 1 marvel, 1 star wars, 1 original lego theme and 1 warner brothers banner. Alfadas Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I read some posts ago, you guys where talking about a d2c set? what is d2c? What does it stand for?? Quote
Revelation Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 D2C simply means Direct to Consumer, In America I believe this means the set is exclusive to Lego stores (ie. their own store) and not other retailers. The title is usually reserved to large, exclusive sets. Here in Australia D2C and probably in other countries eventually leak out to retailers as we don't have LEGO stores here and while online shopping is popular for LEGO most parents go to big chain retailers to purchase toys (which is silly as Amazon is by far the cheapest way to get LEGO ;) ). Hope that helps. Quote

Yeaahh The preview night takes place on Wednesday (at least it did the last two times) Ah so the 23rd of July that is It's not that i can not wait ( well i can't ) but it's hard to grab some internet at the location i go to, you have to pay 5 bucks for 2 hours or something like that? so i wanted to time it a bit right i think the best time to go on the internet there would be Thursday then? Alfadas Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Yes, it helps, I thought it meant something like that, good to know it for sure. Well, I wouldn't mind a d2c set then. Quote
