What a disapppointment! 1000 pc and this is the result? Two really small, albeit cute, buildings. I was anticipating something more along the modular line. Okay, architecturally they're sort of in line with the PS. And they look nice. But the scale is all wrong. Not only is it wrong when comparing to modulars, it's also wrong compared to past Creator houses. Way too small. More like detailed City houses.

I disagree... like all themes, Creator houses tend to have scale discrepancies. Look at the 'mountain' in the Mountain Hut set for example, and the floor space in these shops seems to be slightly larger than that of the Small Cottage, which contains a working 'home'. Even the Seaside House, if you ignore the balcony, has about the same floor size as these buildings. I'm fully willing to accept these shops into my Creator City.

I'm curious where the notion of this set being "1000 pcs" comes from. The first time I saw this mentioned was just after the first blurry photo of the preliminary box appeared, but that said "000 pcs". I'm guessing someone misread that and made it to be "1000 pcs".

And, to be honest, it's just a typical Creator building. Slightly larger and more realistic than a City building, but decidedly smaller and less realistic than a Modular.

Have to see the price first before I decide if I want this. Ideally I would want 2 of these, to make a building that would work wit the modulars in my city, but I think I can also make it work with the stuff from the old City Square I got last year.

Some report I was reading said somewhere between 1000-1100 pieces. I don't recall the exact number or which preview site I saw it reported on, either way, it's over 1000 pieces. Considering as much, I agree that it doesn't look like much. I also saw $90 somewhere. I'll go look for the source.

Here it is. Brickfan is listing it as $89.99, also as 1023 pieces. In other words, save some money and just buy a Pet Shop instead of two of these.

I've already got Pet shop… ;)

Have to agree, don't really see how they got >1000 pieces in that set. The price would roughly translate to about 70 euro's and that's a bit much, too, though it is somewhere in the ballpark of recent bigger sets.

A car rack on the back. When you look at the picture, there's a "grip" on the back of the car, which I think is supposedly where you put the bike. A very, very, very simplified version of:

The funny thing is "buy the cool red bike that’s for sale, mount it on your car rack"........how when the car is a convertible ?

There is a clip above the rear bumper of the car for mounting the bicycle

Nice additions to a classic style builder. Of course a little MODding is needed to make the buildings open-backed.

I think the cafe building has some funny measures: 13 studs wide and 9 deep. And is it an ATM at the right side of the building? It looks like a mailbox and an 45 degrees roof brick on top of it. And a green brick further up. A bank note?

I look forward to see more of the buildings. And to build them ;)

It's $90 according to Brickset, too. Ehhh, I don't know about that price :sceptic: .

I hear you. Feels like one of the modulars would be better as a parts pack, with that price point in mind. And as a set it's pretty underwhelming (though I realize that's not really the point, with Creator). I can't get past the "bike shop" with only one bike. Why even call it that.

I don't understand how these were on display and yet we only have one picture..?

The shops set is cute. I see a niche for someone selling instructions on how to convert two into a single modular building. I loved the Medieval Market Village, but then I got it for £55 second-hand, and that was 1500 pieces.

I thought Lego might finally be bringing back the lessons learned from MMV but this doesn't inspire confidence.

I'm not sure I followed this, can you elaborate? MMV was my first big set as an AFOL, and this doesn't look anything like MMV in the sophistication of the build. I'm not sure if I'm agreeing or disagreeing with you.

The same way we managed to get no pictures whatsoever of Superheroes or TMNT, and only a few shots of the Ultra Agents line. That being, the actual Lego news outlets that were there do pretty shoddy work and only photograph their favorite lines. We really only got pictures of a few themes.

I think we agree. MMV is a fantastic set, I was hoping for something just as good with another decent sized, two fold-out buildings set. Instead we got something so simplified I can't see how there's possibly 1000 pieces in it.

Reading some of the comments here, I really wish TLC would release proper pictures of the set. Even without having seen the set properly, I know this one picture really, really doesn't do it justice. People complaining about the 'bike shop' only having one bike, when you can't even see the rear interior of the building... even if it only does have one bike, there's bound to be tools and accessories at the back of the store to make the shop seem substantial. Not to mention that the flat way the front halves of the building are shot gives the illusion of the buildings being half as large as they are.

Seriously, TLC... probably best not to leave the first impression of new sets up to half-hearted photographers. :sceptic:

You can tell quite a bit from the photo we have, combined with the prelim of the box. Knowing the stud count as far as how wide/deep the buildings are says a lot about the depth of them and what interior they might hold. Besides, the interior of Creator buildings is usually a sort of half-done look anyway, the emphasis is generally on the outside design making the house look good.

Which is not really what the expert series does now......full on detailing both inside and out are the call of the day with the creator expert range.

Though I get the feeling the bike shop/cafe is inspired by the old ideas book town building suggestions........a bit of back to the future.

Unless I missed something, this bike shop set isn't part of the expert series. More like a slightly more elaborate creator house, as I understand it.

It's not, my point was detailing......not worrying about the inside only the outside is what it seems the creator designers are worried about.....though it doesn't stop us AFOL's for doing a better job right ?

Yeah, my point was just that I doubt there's a whole lot to the inside of these buildings to make the set seem much better than it looks from the outside, which is not very.

Well, we might be both assuming at the moment......we all haven't seen what's around the back yet, so maybe it's best to leave any judgement on the set till we see more of it....not one frontal image. :classic:
