My custom driving ring parts are now available to buy on my Bricklink store. :classic:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For my CAD course I had the opportunely to make a project which I choose to make some driving rings which were based on modified lego parts.

I am happy to announce that they are now on there way to a 3D printer (nylon). I hope to have them in around 10 days time when I will test them out.

If successful I am would be happy to get more made for others how would be interested in a set.

Looks great. May I suggest that you make the longer, thinner part fit quite snug inside the 16t gear so there isn't any slop? The reason for this is that it will need to be held concentric to the centre shaft as much as possible as you will have a loose fit between the 16t gear and the shaft and a second loose fit between the new inner and outer parts so that they can all rotate independently. Two loose fits will make the outer part pretty wobbly as it is but should still work ok I think.

I have allowed less than 1mm of play I know that too much play was a bad thing.

Could you explain how this works? I'm not getting it just from looking at the pictures. Thanks!

I can tell you the price will be about £10 Uk pounds (inc postage) - 12 Euros?

It will be slightly more if you are in the states or another far away place.

Very cheep!

I would give it a try. Curiously awaiting your testing results (hopefully a small video?).

Defiantly.

Take a look at Jovel's video.

Thanks! Since you didn't mention turntables in your title, I didn't put the two together - I thought you'd somehow found a way to make driving rings for gearboxes that could select between three different gears, and I didn't see how that was possible with those parts. Looks interesting, good luck!

Totally awesome! Can't wait to see them in action. After seeing what Hrafn said, i wonder if they could be used for gearboxes...

TLH

I am not too sure if they could or not,but you could always get a set to test your ideas out...

Sweet! I would be interested in getting those parts, only I live far far far far far away.

I would not think postage would be any more than £10..... :def_shrug:

I am pleased that some of you are interested in trying out these custom parts along with me.

I do like to stick to lego made parts as much as possible but this I had to try and make because it can allow to you to pass a forth function though a turntable.

With this part we can make mini excavators with a blade and expandable tracks while keeping it compact,or using it in cranes.

You can now have all the motors in the lower half. :sweet:

... pass a fourth function though a turntable ....

Nicely done ... but ... 3rd or 4th?

I see only three functions going through the turntable. besides the turntable itself, of course.

I got the parts today and here is a picture.

It does work, but the parts out of the box were a bit too tight and a bit short in length.

In order for me to get it reprinted I will need at lest two people willing to spend £10 inc shipping.

How do you move the light grey inner clutch ring from one 16 tooth idler gear to the other?
