efferman Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) if purists the short u joint would accept when it would be red? Edited June 10, 2014 by efferman Quote
Bzroom Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Your question is hard to understand. Did you intend to ask if purists would be ok with the part if it were made in red? No! But it sure would be pretty! Quote
efferman Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 a long time ago the lego u joints are being red and with a shape like this Quote
OzShan Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Making the valve body a through hole is good. It could then easily be drilled/reamed to provide a better surface. Stackable is great, but could the connector be thin so you could attach a thin lift arm and keep the stack tight? Great work again Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 if purists the short u joint would accept when it would be red? I think red would be fine. The older u-joints were red, as you mentioned. Quote
efferman Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 because the valve body is 11mm thick, there is a minimum of a half liftarm to the next part. so it is enuogh space. btw, yellow and green are now available for printing Quote
JaapTechnic Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 A long time ago i have also redesigned the valve which was originally designed by Barman. Your version is almost the same but mine uses pneumatic tube for the seal, not sure if that will work... Because i would like to keep the lego design in it, I came up with this: I have never tried to print it, the planning was to make it with broken mini pumps. Quote
efferman Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 i had thought about the same design. is there anything wich prevent the piston for pulling out? a first bunch of parts are arrived Quote
JaapTechnic Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Not yet, in this design the piston can pulled out. But maybe it's possible to reuse the caps which are used on the small pumps to prevent the piston to be pulled out. The universal joint is very strong Much better than the lego version which breaks really fast Quote
jorgeopesi Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 if purists the short u joint would accept when it would be red? I don´t accept it even in red but I admit that you do a good job. We will see if Lego copy any interesting part . Quote
Rockbrick Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 a long time ago the lego u joints are being red and with a shape like this Quote
Zerobricks Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I have 3 of those and 1 broke (dont ask how i managed to break it) They are really tough, the plastic is much harder IMO. Quote
z3_2drive Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I broke about 3 But recently I bought 9 from Germany as they are the only ones that can survive 4 buggy motors in constant stop/go motion. These u-joints look similar in strength, and the sliding function is a huge plus Red would be somewhat nostalgic and fit with the range of Technic pieces, unlike white. Quote
camaudio Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 universal looks nice and strong, will be getting some! Quote
olaf9198 Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Hello efferman, I really like these custom part's. But just a quick question, are the 62X20 rims packed by 4 or is it just a mistake in the photo? (this 1 http://www.shapeways.com/model/1769084/62x20-rim.html?modelId=1769084&materialId=6 ) Quote
N-4K0 Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Your custom u-joint looks very strong, Lego should consider to make them like that Quote
allanp Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 The quality and strength of these parts are better than I would have thought. Quote
efferman Posted June 15, 2014 Author Posted June 15, 2014 we will see how they perform after some time of using Quote
efferman Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 pins which follow the idea of D3K pin a half and 3/4 Quote
D3K Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Ah, brilliant! I had completely forgotten about that one! Don't think I have ever had the need for it again Regarding the part; do you think it should have friction perhaps? Quote
efferman Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 The parts will hold together but how much friction the pin will generate, i only could guess. A tenth more or less of the shapeways tolerance, will decide between friction or not. Quote
rm8 Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) Hi Effe I ordered many parts, including differenet types of differentials, but shapeways canceled my most wanted diff 20Z 2L diff: "After taking a closer look, we cannot print part of your order 456618, placed on 06/20/2014. We’ve credited €17.49 to your Shapeways account for the following: 4 X Diff 2m 20z in White Strong & Flexible Polished designed by efferman - $5.00 Given the nature of 3D printing, converting digital files into physical products, every now and then we catch designs that would be too fragile to create in certain materials. Though we do our best to identify these issues as early as possible, some are only found during the manufacturing process. What you can do is: Contact the product designer -- they can help resolve the issues found during the manufacturing process. Shop for other designs from these these trending products! May be I can order it only at my own risk (i mean they cant give any guarantees on this part) Thanks Edited June 21, 2014 by rm8 Quote
efferman Posted June 21, 2014 Author Posted June 21, 2014 damn, why they are available in polished white? the problem is that the Pieces are to small for polishing. sorry for this mistake. for the 24 tooth 2m diff you have not get this message? it has the same internals, so you will probably get the same message when you contact the people at shapeways and ask if the can modify your order in non polished white and flexible Quote
