• The ship's cook needs a kitchen... is it just me, or is the door to the cabin slightly asymmetrical with the opposite side, which looks like a smaller door? I'm wondering if the captain's cabin has been made smaller so that a small kitchen can be built next to it. This might account for the mysterious increase in the piece count.
  

I think there's only one door into the cabin and it's situated on the larbour side of the ship, considering the position of the main mast that makes sense.

I just find it odd to think that a captain's cabin would have a kitchen off it, which is why I though the door would be out onto the deck... but then, I'm assuming there will be a captain's cabin in this ship, it might have a crew's quarters instead, although I think that would be unprecedented in a Lego pirate ship, to have no captain's cabin? A crew's quarters might have a bunk or two, a bench and somewhere to store weapons, although I think there might not be enough room for that much detail.

Hopefully more official pics will show us exactly what is inside the ship. The increased price count and the placement of the door intrigues me.

More thoughts: The fort and the outpost are clearly meant to connect using that bar sticking out of the fort, there would be a clip hidden under the step of the outpost. It seems to be a bit silly then that two of the pirates from these two sets double up with the same red bandanna and torso, since the sets are meant to compliment each other. This is only a minor quibble though.

Also, is the printing on the shako exactly the same as for the 2009 pirates?

There is no kitchen in this set which is disappointing. The cook is only for fun here.

Love a lot of these sets, especially the junior set. But why couldn't they put in a battlepack type set so its easy to build up a little army.

The smaller sets offer a lot of useful parts and minifigs and I'll get those. Not sure about the pirate ship, but maybe It's a good starting point If you don't have (like me) a big LEGO ship to start a decent MOC with.

Having finally seen the hi-res pics, I see the new bandanas dont look so bad. And unlke some, I kind of like the absence of red in the buecoat color scheme. And Im more and more thrilled with the bluecoats being so compatible with their classic counterparts, with the torsos and flags. Id love to see something like this in the Castle theme.

Thats the point. That is looking terrible. But I have to get 50 of them.

But there are a lot of things I do love very much. They used the old big flag again and the little changes of the flag looks very cool. The soldiers themselves looking great too. I now love the soldiers outpost, which is the best set in my opinion.

I also like that the soldiers will get their backpacks back.

What I don´t like are the new bandanas and that the officers have no hat.

But altogether I am very glad with that wave.

Another thing: Are you sure that the female is a Soldier? She has a total different uniform. She isn t a normal officer, that shall be the one with no hat. If she whould be a officer she had the same uniform. Maybe it is only a cooler version of the governors daughter. A fighting Version like the girl in potc. What are you thinking.

Man these high res official pics have totally changed my thoughts on this line! IMO this line kicks butt out of the 2009 line for sure! The mini figs are all awesome and I kinda like the soldiers with the white emplauttes something new for a change.Also I like the new skull and sword logo, for some reason the 2009 line one seemed kiddyish to me.Anyways the sets are alot smaller but, the fort and ship are 10 dollars cheaper then the 2009 ship and fort so to me the prices aren't bad... Anyways I'll be picking up a lot of these sets when they arrive in stores! Does anyone know for sure if there going to be released in Jan. Or April?

I'm quite happy with how the new sets look like, while I agree the Soldier's fort is not a for, I'm ok with it telling myself that it's a Sabre island tower or something like that. The only set I'm not completely impressed with is the ship, but as I completely missed on the latest Pirates wave as I was in my dark ages, I might be getting that one as well.

What I really like is the minifigures, the green one is top for me, all the others are great too.I'm unsure about the frogs, I mean they could have brought up any possible animals - why frogs though?

Have you seen pictures of inside the ship or know what's inside it? I was just speculating that inside the ship is something different from the 'captain's cabin' we're used to, and that maybe it does have a small kitchen compartment.

Regarding the hair on some of the soldiers, I have no problem with this because in my own Pirate setup I have my soldiers wearing a mixture of hats and hair, so this is very familiar to me.

After a night's sleep, the red bandanna is looking not so bad to me, but I still have a problem with the white bandanna on the Shipwreck Defense pirate, maybe blue would have been better but that would have meant making the bandanna in three colours, which is many.

Well...What's to say. I think the bandanas are cool. I mean, if anyone ends up not liking them after getting them in your hands, there are thousands of the classics for cheap on bricklink! Why not embrace the new ones? What I do take issue with, as few have said, is the lack of new face prints. What's the deal? C'mon Lego, put some effort in. Finally, I really like the green-torso'd pirate. But the rehashing of old torso prints miffs me a little. Many on these boards seem to like them but I feel like if I wanted the old torsos, which I already have, I'd 'link them. I hope there's some new prints in the final set. Overall....meh.

well, the prints are new, they are like a new remake of the classic ones, Even the green one you like.

I am certainly looking forward to these sets. As a long tiem castle collector whose three year old son has a fascination with pirates, I could not come at a better time.

The gold coin chest if not present in these sets then it is a big disappointment. These coins are the heritage of pirates since the 1st pirate theme produacction till 2009..

*Some of these look great, (The 2 smallest), some look Just Above Average, (Ship), and some look like they need a Redesign.

*Being a castle fan, the biggest and smallest sets fit in with it.

However, the 2 smallest are musts.

*I can't wai see Treasure Island.

I hadn't noticed the lack of coins, I just assumed they would be there, especially in the Fort set since I always assume the gold coins are there to pay the soldiers. I doubt they'd be paid in jewels.

So that's another thing the sets are missing. Coins, monkeys, sword sheaths... tricorns for the soldiers...

The person on the phone said no.

Their reason was that the sheaths were a licensed part: meaning they could only be sold with POC sets.

I noticed the lack of gold coins... Pirates was a line we had as kids in the 80s and it just doesn't seem like Pirates without a treasure chest of coins!

ETA: I don't know if I will get any of these sets, but I've been following this thread for some reason! Just doesn't fit with my overall town/modular interests. I do like the blue rowboat, though.

Interesting. But also a bit weird, since the part doesn't seem all that PoTC-specific to me.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to cherish the ones I have.
