Sigolf Brimabane Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 (edited) Hmm... I actually can't wait till these sets are out. I've never had much pirate stuff before... Only 6232 (Skeleton Crew), 6290 (Red Beard Runner), 6260 (Shipwreck Island) and 8396 (Soldier's Arsenal). This could be the stuff that gets me into the pirates theme! I think I'll pick up at least one of each set. I do agree some of these look a bit underwhelming, but those new blue coats look great. :) I never had any of those. Maybe I'll get a blue baseplate or two to put the sets on. Do you think these will be available in stores early or late in 2015? Edited October 14, 2014 by Sigolf Brimabane Quote
Amazing Bricks Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I just noticed something, does the chef in the brick bounty set have the same leg printing as bob kabob from the Lego movie western plane set? Quote
Sigolf Brimabane Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Btw... Does anyone know if the female character in the preliminary picture for Treasure Island is going to be the same as the cool lass in Soldiers Fort? Would be awesome with two female characters :D They are pretty rare </3 Quote
Mencot Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I don't think they will be the same fig. It will, By the look be a pirate. And hopefuly one with an great exclusive torso and legs. Quote
David Thomsen Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Too bad they chose neither, eh? Okay let me put it another way... If adding baseplates meant the fort had even less detail, then I'm glad they didn't add baseplates... Quote
lomis Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I did a quick mock-up in LDD of 70410: Soldiers Outpost and 70412: Soldiers Fort to see what they would look like combined: ...and here's the mock-up with 2009's 6242: Soldiers Fort: Quote
2maxwell Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Thanks Lomis! The new fort doesnt look that bad in the comparison, but there is a glaring lack of baseplates. Unfortunately, I don't consider either model to be particularly substantial so I'm still disappointed. Also, the old soldiers fort was $40, which I believe only one part of the new fort is, correct? Quote
Mencot Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 ^ But the brickcount is pretty much the same. The 2009 used many baseplates and panels. The 2015 is pretty much brick built. Quote

I don't get the hate against panels, they're great at bulking a structure up. And baseplates are fantastic, I still think LEGO could have thrown in 3-4 small blue baseplates to make this new fort look like it's actually in the water. I think the new ones look better now that I have seen them connected and next to the 2009 fort, but I still think the latter is the more impressive model. The minifigs might be a bit better with the new ones though. Quote
Kolonialbeamter Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Thank you Lomis for making these. I think it was The Cook who mentioned the target age for the new line is lower than for the 2009 wave. Well, looks like today's kids will have more firepower than their older siblings. But eventually all will be decided by crocodile vs. frogs... Go frogs! By the way, one should wonder if adding frogs to a Bluecoat set is a statement of some kind... Quote
Sigolf Brimabane Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Why don't they use the good old palm pieces? Those technic things look odd... But I have to say the use of those leaves make it look very palmy :) It looks like the main difference is that the 2009 sets used panels and the new sets don't... thus they look smaller. I think the panel pieces of the 2009 sets looked good, so I regret not having any :/ Would have made for a bigger fort. I can't say I miss having big blue plates in the new sets. Sure the old sets look like they're in the water, but I think you might as well buy an extra blue 32x32 baseplate if you want to have water. :) Quote
gedren_y Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Or just a blue surface to put the set on. The old set makes it look as if the fort is completely on the water, whereas the current version makes it seem as if it begins on land and extends into the water. Though I love the new 'brick' piece in dark red, and will be getting as many as I can, I have never been able to see any Pirates builds with red bricks as the Caribbean islands or the Gulf Coast. I can see them as the Mediterranean or the Barbary Coast. I guess I have just been to the St. Augustine Fort too many times. Quote

I don´t hate the panels, I agree they are good to include when building bigger castles, building etc. And especially the 2009 panel with window. But I real llyike the thing TLG has going with much just brickbuilt buildings. Quote
yys4u Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Those two sets combined does seem to put things in perspective. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 2 new sets are $20 and $30 sets correct? And the 2009 fort was a $50 set. So when you compare them this way they do appear to be on par with each other. Quote
lomis Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 (edited) [...] when you compare them this way they do appear to be on par with each other. ...and there's an additional raft and pirate with one of them. I don't count the row boat, other two pirates, or the octopus since the 2009 set had a row boat, two pirates, and an alligator/crocodile. Edited October 18, 2014 by lomis Quote
Lancethecat Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 (edited) I once called TLG to see if I could order some extra sheaths - outside of a set. The person on the phone said no. Their reason was that the sheaths were a licensed part: meaning they could only be sold with POC sets. The Constitution Train Chase from the Lone Ranger line also comes with a sheath (plus one extra) for Captain Fuller. As a side note, does anyone know what the official USD prices for all of the sets are? Edited October 18, 2014 by Lancethecat Quote
David Thomsen Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 The Constitution Train Chase from the Lone Ranger line also comes with a sheath (plus one extra) for Captain Fuller. So maybe the sheath is owned by the whole of Disney rather than just limited to PotC? Still seems rather silly, though. I can imagine something like Jack Sparrow's hair being restricted, but a generic sheath? Quote
Amazing Bricks Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I can guess $12.99 for the smallest set. $19.99 for the soldier outpost. $19.99 for treasure island. $29.99 for soldiers fort. $89.99 for the brick bounty. Unfortunately i only know $89.99 for the brick bounty. I have pretty much all the prices for all the themes except pirates. Quote

Sounds about right, though it's possible Shipwreck Defense could be as little as $9.99; that's a more common price point for unlicensed sets of that size. And not to veer too far off topic, but could you pay the DC Super Heroes thread a visit if you have those prices? Quote
Dreamweb Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 The ship IS a disappointment in terms of repetition. Surely there are some changes compared to the Brickbeard's Bounty but the two are still too much alike. Even the name is virtually the same. I am sure I will get it regardless, as it is sill brand new Pirate LEGO, but I guess I will dismantle it soon after that and just use the parts for some other purpose. Quote

True, but if we only get five-ish sets in the theme it means that the fort takes up two of those slots instead of just one. In other words, it's a bit like a four-set wave, albeit one with some great things in it. Quote
