Sigolf Brimabane Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I frankly cannot see any juniorisation in these sets. The figures look like almost exact replicas of the classic figures. The new bluecoats look even more classic than the redcoats. Most of the soldier faces are just modern versions of the classic smile-face. And Redbeard is back. The sets are somewhat lacklustre though, but nothing that some modding and mocing can't fix. The new jolly roger flag is also back to the classics with a fierce-looking skull compared to the strange one of 2009. What's missing: classic palmtrees, monkeys. I already have two old monkeys that I can use. And I ordered soldiers fort from 2009, so I'll get one there as well. I do agree about 2013 castle though. They didn't beat kingdoms. Just my opinion. And as I missed out on the 2009 stuff AND classic pirates (only got Redbeard Runner from 2001) I am really getting excited about these sets... Which makes me very worried since the sets aren't in the lego catalogue NOR the product catalogue sent out to toy shops... Quote
yys4u Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 The soldier has an old head. Therefore I think you just got the body. But the question is where do you get it from? Internet... Quote
Ardelon Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 What's missing: classic palmtrees, monkeys. And dont forget the gold (and some buildings worthy of the name)... Otherwise, I agree. I rather prefer this iteration of Pirates to the 2009 one, insubstantial buildings aside (I actually dont mind the lack of monkeys or palm trees). Quote
Pulp Detective Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 The biggest disappointment for me from this wave of sets is there in no decent pirate hideout.I very much doubt we'll ever get something similar to this http://brickset.com/sets/6273-1/Rock-Island-Refuge Quote
jodawill Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 (edited) Internet... I too have ordered 10 of the torsos from this "Internet" of which you speak. I also bought a captain, the pirates, five of the swordfish, and some other items. The biggest disappointment for me from this wave of sets is there in no decent pirate hideout.I very much doubt we'll ever get something similar to this http://brickset.com/sets/6273-1/Rock-Island-Refuge They made one in 2009, but it was a bloody mess. http://brickset.com/sets/6253-1/Shipwreck-Hideout That's the kind of thing that really only works if you have a good baseplate to go with it. The fort is suffering from the same problem. We especially need those raised baseplates back. Even if they add $5 or $10 to the price of the set, they're worth it. They make a HUGE difference. Also, I just heard from the LEGO Store in Austin, TX, USA that they don't expect to see any 2015 Pirate sets until June/July... Edited January 27, 2015 by lomis Quote

Artifex Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 The one thing that saddens me is that I feel we won't be seeing big sets like Rock Island Refuge, Eldorado Fortress, Imperial Trading Outpost and the like any more. I can see that the gist is there in playability, but it's just not the same feel. Not sure why -- maybe nostalgia? I know you can buy multiples and MOC whatever you want, the size you want -- especially us, AFOLs, but I don't know. How cool it is to open a big box of Lego and build this large, massive fortress? In a way, I guess that's how modulars make me feel. I'd set for "regular" big sets like Eldorado Fortress, Imperial Trading Post and the like, and I hope we get a big, massive "so long, farewell, au revoir, auf wiedersehen, adieu" set like Kingdoms Joust. jodawill Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Since the earliest photos, something about those bluecoats has seemed off to me. Today, I finally realized what it is. Their epaulets are the wrong color. They should be red. I'll probably order a bunch of red epaulets to replace them. Quote

I feel the same, I had already some extras but I ordered some more red so the white ones can be replaced. At the same time I ordered some (much) of the newer gold coins and ingots. Quote

At the same time I ordered some (much) of the newer gold coins and ingots. Unfortunately, they're ridiculously expensive right now (as I learned this afternoon). So I'm going to suck it up and wait however long it takes for them to make them in red again. Then I'll buy them in bulk. Quote
Mencot Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Okay (not ok-ey) , I haven´t looked at the current price. Seems somebody else have done the same, probably and the price has gone up a bit. I buyed mine immediately last year when the better images of the sets arrived. Quote

The white ones I bought were a third of that price and I was able to buy them in a large quantity. Quote
Matthias Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 (edited) I was able to buy 100 pcs for 0,14 Euro last year. Than I sold them on eBay.de. Now I bought them for 0,46 Euro for new 100. Lego will not produce them soon. The Icon of it is away on Lego.com. If they would produce it than it would be there with the remark not avaiable. The lowest price on Ebay.de is now 3,30 € for 4 Pcs. Mike S Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I red here somewhere that you want to know how the back prints looks. Here is the one one from the soldiers. Thanks! I think I like these new soldiers better than the redcoats for the sole reason that the redcoats bag printing makes them look like messenger boys to me. If you have any more pics of the back of the other figs, it would be most appreciated! Quote

Maybe I make another arm of the service with red and yellow epaulettes. Quote
