Faefrost Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Maybe he is king of the Shako soldiers? :/ I thought the Shako's became pretty common with the Europen Royalty starting mid to late 18th century up to WW I in some cases? Wasn't Arch Duke Ferdinand always pictured in one? I don't think this will get a second wave. Castle 2013 didn't get it There are some fairly strong rumors of a summer 2016 Castle wave, and Castle and Purates tend to alternate somewhat? Quote
blarghiflargh Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 LEGO knows a lot of people buy the sets just for the minifigures, in this case, the Imperial soldiers. If they release a bunch of soldiers in just 1 set, that could affect the selling of the others, that's why they come without the shakos I don't see that as particularly logical. AFOL tend to be the army builder collectors. LEGO doesn't seem to aiming at the AFOL market with their 2015 Pirates line, given that it recycles set ideas from the 2009 theme. This chess set is more particularly aimed at AFOL. It would make sense to put a bunch of army builders in a relatively expensive set that will be more appealing to that demographic. It's the exact reason why so many in this very thread were probably looking forward to this chess set. And if LEGO's aim is to direct army builders to their mass retail sets(most of which only contain one bluecoat, making it wildly expensive to army build that way) then why sell the minifigure elements on Bricks & Pieces? David Thomsen Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Yes the board IS off by 90 degrees, how odd! Although easy to fix. I don't think the game is intended to be played with a palm tree in one player's way. And I'm not sure the minifig pieces will be off centre, the way they're laid out on the board gives them balance by having their weapon on the inner side. And all the brick built pieces fit flush. I hadn't really noticed that the two halves on the side of the board form a beach scene with bridge when put together, it makes their design a lot less random. I'll give the set this one thing, it would look really nice displayed like that. I'm almost tempted to get the set and replace the playing pieces with my own, just for the design of the thing. Quote
Mencot Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 I don't think this will get a second wave. Castle 2013 didn't get it No, probably not because as said, if castle returns next year. But I hope that TLG makes a exclusive blue coat set. Quote
Pulp Detective Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 (edited) Meh the chess looks bland and boring,I'll pass.Any way has anyone gotten the pirate ship??If yes what's you're opinion?? Hey J2G can you upload a picture with the sets 70409 and 70411 combined together?? Edited February 15, 2015 by LOTR34 Quote
blarghiflargh Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Hey Baby, could you post a picture of the Bluecoat's Queen? There's not a front-on picture of her that I've seen. Quote
baby Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Hey Baby, could you post a picture of the Bluecoat's Queen? There's not a front-on picture of her that I've seen. I think they reuse old torso, if not mistaken the bluecoat queen torso can be found in build your own figs? Quote
just2good Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 I finally got around to building the new Fort set, and I have to say- it's the best of the line (though I don't have the main ship yet). And here's the set combined with the $20 set: The thing I love about this set is that it has some phenomenal minifigures, but still retains having a great build for the price! Three of the minifigures are exclusive. The build is nice looking with lots of play features packed in for the price, and some great pieces, like a printed flag for the blue coats (exclusive) and the red "mason" bricks. David Thomsen Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I think they reuse old torso, if not mistaken the bluecoat queen torso can be found in build your own figs? Yes, she's from an old Castle set, some kind of damsel in distress. I have to admit that the bluecoat 'king' doesn't look so bad mixing the shako with that torso and the white gloves, I'm so used to using shakos for the lowest ranking soldiers that I had to take a moment to adjust. But why didn't they use the bluecoat female soldier for the 'queen'? This queen just looks out of place, wrong colours and everything, and there is an old blue dress they could have used, I think from the Imperial Flagship. Once again, If I get the set I'll probably replace her with another figure. What source are the figures? Do they have the neck print on the torso, or the mark under the arms? Quote

I can't recall about that, but i do not recall seeing China on the box as well. However, the pirates arm and palm colour is not that matching if you see closely, the palm is like lighter in yellow colour. Edited February 16, 2015 by baby Quote
Ardelon Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 That chess set is pretty lame, I wonder whats the reason the soldiers dont come with shakos? I find it had to belive it would be to force AFOLs to army-build via reguĺar sets. Its equally hard to believe theis is the final product, but since its being sold... On a more positive note, thanks for your great reviews, just2good! The pics are better that TLGs own! Quote
Pulp Detective Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 That's the big deal with shakos??You can simply buy them from Bricklink. Quote
Hive Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 That's the big deal with shakos??You can simply buy them from Bricklink. That's not really a valid response to critique of a set in my opinion. "You don't like stuff you feel should be included is missing? What's the big deal, just buy it seperately." No, just no. Quote
Blakstone Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 The back of this box looks interesting as well. This looks like a win even when you have the segments stacked up. Quote
just2good Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 On a more positive note, thanks for your great reviews, just2good! The pics are better that TLGs own! Aw, thanks man! Alright, so next up is the $20 blue coat set... really liking this one! So, overall, this set is a winner! I love the small outpost, as it reminds me of some of the beloved 1990s small imperial sets, and the size of it for the price is great. Then, there's a very well done raft and octopus combo- a little like this set includes 2009's Kraken Attackin'. Top that off with an exclusive miniature blue coat flag print, two blue coats to satisfy the army builder and a pirate with a new torso, face, and bandana mould, and this set is really one of the best of the line. Honestly, I don't plan on getting the Brick Bounty set, but we'll see. For now, I'd rank this set third in my favorites of this new wave, but all three of my favorites are fantastic- the Soldiers Fort, the Treasure Island, and this set. Then, there's that small shipwreck set which is lame. Quote
jodawill Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 That's the big deal with shakos??You can simply buy them from Bricklink. They average $1 each on BrickLink. Lego could have added them to the set for much cheaper than that. Quote
dgherko Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Chess set will make a good army builder. Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Much as I've grown to actually like these sets, I just don't like the raft. The floor of it is too high up. That height worked for Kraken Attackin', because it was proportional to the size - but here, it's not. I do like the outpost more than I did, though. It's a shame they positioned the cannon in the fort where they did. It blocks off the walkway between the two buildings. Quote
SerenityInFire Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 So, does anybody know if there will be more pirate sets or if this will just be a one wave return like 2013 Castle? Quote
Mencot Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 So, does anybody know if there will be more pirate sets or if this will just be a one wave return like 2013 Castle? Probably but there is no knowledge about it. Hopefuly TLG does an exclusive set to end the line with though. Quote

I hate it when they bring a theme (like this one) from the dead give it one wave and then forget it completely.I bet my money that's what's going to happen but I hope I'm wrong. just2good Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Here's a look at the new LEGO Juniors 2015 Pirates set, which I recommend to any LEGO Pirates fan as a cheap parts pack. This set is an amazing set for parts alone! Take a look... there's a new mould for a half-circle plate, an exclusive printed shirt, map, wall, and flag piece; and some other rare parts like the black treasure chest. The only thing lacking is that the build isn't too interesting, but I understand they had to keep is simple for the juniors. Quote
David Thomsen Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Despite it's simplicity, Pirate Treasure Hunt is actually a very worthwhile parts back. The 2009 equivalent, Pirate Building Set, only comes with the sword, jewels, hat and exclusive torso & head as useful Pirate-themed parts. Pirate Treasure Hunt has all of these things (except the head isn't exclusive) as well as black treasure chest, chain, barrel, shark, goblet, boat, oars, gun, exclusive map, exclusive flag and skeleton with new bandanna. It also has more generic building parts that are useful to Pirate MOCs, including an exclusive printed wall piece. Pirate Building Set came with three times as many pieces, but they're all pieces that can be picked up almost anywhere. Quote
