Hello All,

Here is a free build for January! This is my first try at this kind of building, incorporating lighting into the MOC. Having no small lights to use in the build, I experimented with using a flashlight, and don't think it turned out to bad. I tried to get the background to be a forced perspective of a mountain and a forest. But since I had to build it on a 16x16 baseplate (this was also for a lego Brawl against a friend), it was much harder to create that effect. I had a lot of fun building this, and I hope you like it as well! Enjoy!

Feren Vandalar rests comfortably by a fire, content after a good hunting season. He now warms himself by a fire, as he thinks of who he should bring to help him claim Marrock....

No Photoshop!

Soli Deo Gloria!

Great lighting, mpoh, the fire looks great, as does the minifig :classic:

I like the mountains and trees as well, though the leaves do not quite give the impression of a forest.

If you can blur the part that is supposed to be far away it looks a little better, but a very nice build overall :thumbup:

Thanks Garmadon! Hmm, I would if I could, but this was a no photoshop build, so can't do that. I tried focusing on only the fire and fig, and this was as close as I got. :classic:

Cool lighting;) great job!

Thanks Gunman, glad you like it!

Great lighting! Reminds of the many campfires I have been round!

Thanks Lord Vladivus, me too!

Very interesting photo job, how did you do it?

Thanks Kabel! Basically, I built a hole under where the fire is. The base is about 2 bricks thick, and where the fire is, there is only a trans-orange plate, then a hole. When I went to take the picture, I put a flashlight into that hole, so that it lights up the fire. Hope this explains how I did it!

Great job, and a great trick setting it all up. I'm almost afraid to see pics with the lights turned on, as it would take away some of the magic of this fantastic photo. Thanks for sharing!

I wanted to do much the same thing with a forge for CCC but didn't get to it. Nice to know it works and works well!

The lighting for the fire is very well done  I do agree with Garmadon, if you blurred the back it would help give the impression of a forest in the background.

Thanks lenjoyLego89! Yeah, I agree. Oh well, too late now.

Thanks Doom2099! Haha, yeah, it isn't as impressive without the light underneath.

Thanks mrcp6d. Same here, this was going to be for the lighting category for the CCCXI, but it is far too late now. :sceptic:

Great lightining

Thank you Wedge09!

Really nice lighting effect! I like how the campfire lights up the guys face and the nearby bushes :classic:

What I'm not too fond of however is the FP in the background, where I think two things could be improved. One thing is to have a shallower depth of field and ensuring that the FP is blurry enough for a believable FP effect, and the other thing is that I think it looks a bit weird that the campfire illuminates the mountains  Another light source on those (maybe a very cool light, like white LEDs, to simulate moonlight) would be better.

Wow awesome work! Its extremely realistic..

Thanks The Architect!

Thanks Gideon! Great critique, I will definitely try that in the future! Thanks so much! :D

Neat lighting effect  The FP mountains work fairly well, but Gideon's suggestions would improve the effect :classic:

Thank you soccerkid6! I agree all the way!

Yes, Gideon's suggestions are good. Your build is fantastic and I really admire your skill with just a simple flashlight. However, it does turn the snow on your mountains a shade of yellow instead of white. Not much you can do about that with just a flashlight. But, that's just a minor thing. You've really done a great job.

I agree with the comments about the FP not looking perfectly realistic, but otherwise great job! The lighting is really impressive!

Thanks Kai!

I like the lighting, it really looks good, but I think a little separation between the subject and the background would help the FP.

Thanks Torgar! :D Yes, I agree.
