Holy Fudge!!! I hope you don't mind if I drop by your house and observe the beauties (ummm maybe take a few home...). Sadly, I got into the Technic line too late (I have only the 4x4 Offroader, Extreme Offroader and that mini yellow Loader released last year I think) before I quit buying LEGO. I also have a couple of die-cast cars (6 - 1:24 & 2 - 1:18). There are a lot of great Technic sets now but sadly the money has to go somewhere else...cough...electronics...cough.

Well, the Off Roader was the closest one to perfection, it had a working gearbox, suspension, working steering mechanism and even hydraulic doors. The only thing that it lacked is the studded Technic elements.

But I do agree that the old Technic sets were the absolute beauties... Now, the new Technic XXL Crane might be the second best among the new Technic releases.

Oh, and that F1 Silver Champion was a good engineering marvel.

Actually, I have the 4x4 Offroader and the chassis is full of studded beams. It is absolutely beautiful and the few styling parts make it even better. It's its smaller counterpart, the Extreme Offroader that lacks studded beams, I can count only 4!

Well I have the Off Roader as well, but what I really meant by lacking, is the use of those bendable hoses/beames instead of the Studded Technic beams as part of the outlined body frame. Nonetheless, it is still one of the best Technic sets ever made.

You are definitly a car geek dude :-D

Psh. Know your LEGO, dude. ;)

Also, there ain't nuthin' wrong with studless beams, I'm tellin' ya. Them's more compact and cleaner-looking in constructions. Sturdyness is the same, and they's a great addition to the technic parts we already have. Want studs? Grab yourself an 8880. Wonderful car.

All kidding aside, we'll still have studded beams to let technic and regular lego connect, but there are some great advantages to studless technic. One I REALLY like is that your average, run-of-the-mill technic beam needs 4 molds to be created, while the studless ones only take 2*, not to mention they need less plastic per beam.

*the studless beam takes two molds to create, one for each side. Studded beams need 2 more, for the top and the bottom to create the holes in the studs and the gaps in the bottom. Less molds means simpler fabrication; which in turn reduces costs.
