ronenson Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Looks pretty good to me. I'm curious how the brick-build version will finally look. Quote
AlmightyArjen Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 Added a carriage and some extra spacey features. This is definitely going to be something I think! Too bad that the train door windows don't come in transparent dark blue... I'm convinced, I'm going to build this! Quote
dr_spock Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Looking good. I like your updates to the nose. I think you can get the train door windows in trans-black if you're looking for something less trans-clear. Quote
AlmightyArjen Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 Yes, I saw the trans-black windows too... I've made also a version without doors. What do you think? With or without doors?? Quote
ronenson Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 I actually like it better without the doors Quote
AlmightyArjen Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 It maybe looks a bit less real but more spacey.. I don't know, but I had the same feeling... Quote
dr_spock Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 You could try to brick build some spacey doors instead of using the regular train doors. Doors that pop out and open like jet plane doors. Or even gull wing doors that open upwards. Quote
zephyr1934 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 It is starting to look a little like 4561, which always had that space look to me. I THINK that set had a specialized plate for the nose too... yes, here it is. Quote
AlmightyArjen Posted February 4, 2014 Author Posted February 4, 2014 Hmm, thanks. That could be a nice option! I'll try to work it out in LDD tomorrow. But I have to be carefull that the train doesn't look too much like the 4561, as it is (in my opinion) one of the ugliest trains TLG has produced so far But it has some spacey looks indeed. I'm still struggling with the doors. I can't come up with a hinge-based solution (to get rid of the regular train doors). I want the doors to open like sliding doors or like gull wing doors but I can't come up with a good idea. Does someone have a good suggestion? Quote
zephyr1934 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Could you peruse the other space sets of that era and find a nice door mechanism that is also period accurate? Quote
AlmightyArjen Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 Good thoughts but I already looked into that and I couldn't find something suitable. Most panels/windscreens/wedges don't fit the shape of the train to make a nice door. But I've came up with a few things; I'll work it out this evening in LDD when I'm home again :) Quote
AlmightyArjen Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 How about this door design: Yellow plate is a tile so the door opens in two parts :) Quote
AlmightyArjen Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 I've taken a good look at the 6990 and I tried some things to make the train look more like it. I think it looks pretty great and stills spacey now :) Quote
Lazarus Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 I think the underside between the wheels needs something quite a bit of white space there. Quote
AlmightyArjen Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 Ah yeah I was already thinking: "there's missing something here... "! Thanks for the tip, something like this looks nice, doesn't it? Quote
Lazarus Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Thats better, maybe some internal detail also. like seats and stuff. Quote
AlmightyArjen Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 Yes, seats are coming too. Just ordered everything: I needed 15 Bricklink orders to get all the parts needed Quote
neonic Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Looking better every time. Yesterday I was looking on brickset for some models of my 'age' those days and saw some nice spaceships and right away I must think of you Maybe it's an idea to look at those old models for some inspiration. I'm busy with such a model myself because of you keep up the good work Quote
zephyr1934 Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Yes, looking good. Could you work in a bit of short monorail track as a feature on the train to complete the homage? E.g., 2670 Quote
AlmightyArjen Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 Thanks! I indeed looked at some old spaceships (which are the best imo).. Yes, looking good. Could you work in a bit of short monorail track as a feature on the train to complete the homage? E.g., 2670 Hmm, I like the idea but I'm not sure if it fits somewhere in the design, got any suggestions? BTW: It just popped up in my head that I've made a huge mistake! The carriages are fixed with eachother! The bogies can turn now, but the carriages not so this won't work in curves I'll find a solution... Quote
zephyr1934 Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Hmm, I like the idea but I'm not sure if it fits somewhere in the design, got any suggestions? Maybe you could put some sort of power unit on the roof of the middle car and incorporate the track there? Or snot it upside down on the underside of one of the cars? Quote
AlmightyArjen Posted February 23, 2014 Author Posted February 23, 2014 Unfortunately I don't have much time these weeks, but here is a start: And the doors: I'm working on a system that will open the doors automatically using pneumatic cilinders... Quote
jonwil Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Not a bad train although trans-red would look better (and closer to the Futuron color scheme) than trans-orange. Quote
