Saberwing40k Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 This set is a mixed bag for me. I hate the steering, and the linear actuators look really out of place. I really wish Lego would make them (and pneumatic cylinders), in different colors. Also, the extension shafts on the linear actuators look a bit thin, but that's pretty minor. The front end on the whole has a very messy design, but from the cab back it looks great. I'm not sure if I'm getting this set, or not. I'm not too fond of yellow, and while the new bucket is great, I don't build wheel loaders that often. And speaking of wheels, while it is great that Lego finally made the large hubs in yellow, they look kind of out of place. Thus, I have mocked up some easy modifications to show you guys: From left to right: Option 1 uses a large track sprocket Option 2 uses a smaller wheel. Option 3 uses a 40z gear. Option 4 uses some round plates Option 5 uses a 6x6 disc. So, which one is best? Quote
N-4K0 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 There's a lot of people complaining About the front of the loader. It's pretty much the same as the real L350F if u look closely. Even the real machine looks very bare when the shovel is raised up. I think lego got it fairly spot on. Only complaint I have is the tires are a tad bit too small. I wonder if Volvo could have set some conditions regarding this model, for example resembling the real thing as closely as possible in every aspect, which could mean that the way the loader is, is how Volvo wanted it to be... 750ACE Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) @davidmull: You may be correct, the clip is short but after seeing the LA's fully extend the range seems short to me. Especially if comparing the range to effe's recent moc. Edited January 30, 2014 by 750ACE Quote
DrJB Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) I agree I also love construction sets so I'm happy with the loader. Only flagship I don't like in the last few years is 9398. I'm with you guys in that I like the set ... But at the same time a bit disappointed that TLG is just re-issuing so many vehicles. There are so many other construction type machines and might need to explore a bit more. I've been wishing for a flagship motograder ... In real life, such machine is full of functionality ... The WL will do though, but may end up in the spare-parts bin as the parts appear way more interesting than the whole. Edited January 30, 2014 by DrJB Quote
Phoxtane Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I'm thinking that the new bucket piece is going to be fairly fragile at the top with the mesh bits, and as a result immensely expensive new and used on both the primary and secondary markets. Quote

DrJB Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) There are few dominant colors in construction machinery. Yellow (or Orange), and Dark gray (or green). The wheels are a mixed bag, some companies make them in yellow/orange (Case), others in dark gray (Deere). I am not too concerned with the yellow rims. Now, when it comes to pistons as well (LAs in our case), there again, different companies paint them either yellow/orange, or dark gray. Thus, LAs in gray is not too far from the truth. EyesOnly Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 So the engine is green. I thought that it was just green pieces mounted above the usual engine block. Cool. Nice fan as well. Quote
efferman Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 with the new pictures i have to change my opinion. to hide all of the motors is really impressive Quote
1gor Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Have you noticed, that they have used portal hub from Unimog And Crawler, and installed it horizontaly. .... and there is definitely green fake motor inside ... I like this Volvo more and more ..... Indeed, I apologize for my doubts about it. We only do not know if there is 4 or 6 cylinder engine inside. My guess is 4 cylinder Igor with the new pictures i have to change my opinion. to hide all of the motors is really impressive http://www.flickr.co...08/12212411854/ http://www.flickr.co...08/12212399524/ http://www.flickr.co...08/12211999135/ http://www.flickr.co...08/12212380484/ http://www.flickr.co...08/12212356314/ http://www.flickr.co...08/12212147313/ http://www.flickr.co...08/12212524206/ http://www.flickr.co...08/12212310024/ what we can see on this image http://www.flickr.co...08/12212356314/ it could be (finally) 6 cylinder in-line engine made by LEGO Quote
Rockbrick Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 First thoughts: "oh no not another front loader..." Now thoughts: "great parts donor...." pretty impressive, first Mercedes/Unimog, now Volvo - you know the next one is Landrover defender don't you ? Cuusso or not ? (especially since they stopped production the real defender) Quote

Theo van Vroenhoven Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 In the Netherlands someone claims to have the set already on sale... Quote
1gor Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Do we know how wide the bucket is? by my calculations 22-23 studs or someone correct me Quote
JM1971 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Progressive return to center controller, BMW M3 (mentioned earlier), low friction tyres for drifting, something the get the blood pumping for a change. Quote
Balrog Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I wonder how long it takes for dokludi to make a replica!? Quote
Hrafn Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 nr. 2 and nr.5, but I do not know if there is yellow dish 6 x 6 inverted Igor 5 is nice, but unfortunately according to Bricklink that part has never been made in yellow. Quote
aol000xw Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I agree with some comments made here. Good rear/ugly front. and those tyres look a bit small. And after Unimog steering problems.... this weird steering? really? IMHO old front loader 8265 manages to look better but this is not a total failure, 8258 or 8043 are way better and 8110 is more interesting. So not impressed. Also a bit deceiving after a fresher 42025 I expect some nice mods with 3rd party tyres. Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Do we know how wide the bucket is? I think it is going to be 23 studs wide, the currant big black one is about 20 studs wide. I look forward to getting the set, however it does seam rather square. Quote
jorgeopesi Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I will build one but I will have to do all the body smaller to make bigger the wheels and the L.A.s, is the problem when you only work with Lego pieces. Quote

I look forward to getting the set, however it does seam rather square. The current big black one is 18 studs wide. I like new bucket, I just don't like triangular shape of the front section. If it was straight, it could be more applicable in MOCs. But it very usable, still. Quote

Also I hope douki doesn't make a replica. It takes the fun out of waiting for the real model every year :( Quote
