davidmull Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 (edited) You are right, I guess is that the actuators are very short and have to win distance with the arms, if you build smaller the loader, you may have correct arms and distance to the wheels. Unimog wheels as the 42030 with better proportions. Let's just hope the loader will touch the ground without tipping the bucket :) Edited February 4, 2014 by Blakbird : Removed large quoted image. DreamsKnight Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 sorry guys, the 42030 and the 8043 are both in the same scale? Quote
DrJB Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 (edited) How do you decide the scale of the 8043? It's got to be based only on the operator/cab size. Such excavators do come in various sizes and the only 'reference' is the operator cabin ... Edited February 5, 2014 by DrJB Quote

AndroTech Posted February 4, 2014 Author Posted February 4, 2014 Has anyone gave thought, that Volvo has paid to TLG, to make front loader, and not the other way around ..... think .... why would TLG pay for licence, for something they already made once .... not exact replica ... but none the less .... what would TLG gain, if they make licenced front loader .... with Unimog it makes sense, it's one of a kind, .... with front loader it isn't .... Roeltjuh Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Then again, why would Volvo pay LEGO for this? It's not that a 12 year old boy will buy a Volvo frontloader when he's got his drivers license at 18, because 6 years before he had this one from LEGO.. Quote

And many procurtement managers will buy this to their children and probably end with "how cool it is" "why our construction company doesn't use Volvos?" On the other hand it can be part of a brand development action and very good advertisement. Like JCVD splitting over the trucks. Edited February 4, 2014 by Interceptor Quote
Dafgek81 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 (edited) I don't think TLC is bringing out this set for 12 year old boys. I realy think TLC is aming at AFOLS to buy this set, I think TLC is doing so for the last couple of years, look at the sets and the prices, there aren't many parents that will buy these expencive sets for their children. andythenorth Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 My bet would be that nobody paid anybody for this. I would figure it's a no-fee collaboration between Lego and Volvo. However I have a poor recent track record of betting on these forums Volvo have been doing a lot in social media - viral videos, games, community stuff. This would be just another variation on their marketing program. For Lego it's a chance to put out an authentic model that will get Technic some news coverage. I imagine Maersk is done on the same basis. Obviously just my 2p, I have no more access to the facts than any of the rest of us who are guessing. Lego could just put this info in public on Technic blog of course...? Quote

I also imagined that VOLVO could have for instance paid for the development of the specific and licensed parts. - Development of the new bucket (design, prototyping, mold, production) - Dedicated production run for the green engine parts Quote

DrJB Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Not so obvius if you don't know how big is che loader in "real life" ;) Rather easy, look at the cab interior /operator space. It should give you a good idea of the relative scales. Quote
Dafgek81 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 It is as wide as the Unimog and the wheels are the same, so I hope it will be the same size. I think it will be much bigger than the 8265, maybe someone who has build a own version already and also ownes a 8265, he can make a photo of the two sets together so we have Some conperison. Quote
davidmull Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Anyone know will power pullers fit on 42030? Quote
Zerobricks Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Anyone know will power pullers fit on 42030? They will proboably hit the front fenders... Quote
efferman Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 and the will be much to wide for the bucket Quote
Krieshner Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 This set came as a surprise for us on the Volvo plant :-). I have been working as an assembler on the line for the real L350F and know it inside out - so this set is an absolute need to have in the collection. Seems to be a nice replica, of course there are some issues, but I want to build it and test it first before I compare it with the real loader. Maybe we can build the LEGO set on the production line :-P. Quote
AndroTech Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 ... maybe we can build the LEGO set on the production line ... That is a MUST .... also to take a pictures, and share it with us .... those will be wonderful. Quote
efferman Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 would be look cool if five volvo workers would stand with haevy tools arround the 42030 box Quote

NXT45 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Finally we have some new information about the Technic flagship for year 2014. It is time to open a new topic, and discuss some of them here. But first some pictures ..... Time for discussion ..... I wonder why there is no parts count on the box... Does anyone think it would be more than the 42009 mobile crane MKII? Happy building! Johnny P Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 (edited) I thought i read somewhere that the volvo has around 1680 parts. Mkll has 2600 so its not even close. Edited February 6, 2014 by Johnny P Quote
