besides the bucket, the rest are all common parts, right. I want to try with my existing parts first, and decide if it'worth getting. Has anyone tried this? Yes I have plenty of parts and no need to add, at this stage at least.

This is a must if you own the 42030. Stellar work indeed by Efferman!

I was surprised at how many of the needed parts I had but I still had to order a few through Brick Link so I don't cannibalize other models  I also grabbed a set of Crawler Innovations closed cell foam inserts for the rear tires to help with the weight of the battery box.

Thanks again for the LDD and detailed steps relative to original instructions. You details (beyond step 57) out, as an exercise for the reader I guess... it was fun :sweet:

Is anyone planning to MOD the bucket arm? The range of bucket tilt makes it really hard to pick up big blocks, I just tried today and was much harder than with the 8043-B model, which allows tilting the bucket back/up when the arm is lowest. Little video to explain this better:

The range of movement is appaling indeed! But that can easily be fixed by changing the pivotpoint on the lever which connects the LA to the bucket, right? You lose a bit of force for tilting the bucket, but the range of movement increases a great deal. I do not own the set, so I don't know if this is possible, but that would be my solution.

Yep, you nailed it, I was too lazy to even think about it. I just shifted this join by 1 stud:

IMG_20141211_002635.jpg

and now I can pick up many more blocks! :)

IMG_20141211_002556.jpg

Shifting by 2 studs wouldn't work because then you wouldn't be able to empty the bucket when raised, it would only stay with it's bottom flat horizontal.

Shifting the point where the LA joins the other end of this inner lever didn't seem like it'd work either, the LA would not be able to fully retract.

LEGO Technic 42030 - MOD Fork Attachment

Recently I purchased LEGO Technic set 42030 with a view to modifying this and adding my own attachments.

My first attachment is a set of lifting forks and a pallet which can be used to lift and carry various items. This took me about a hour to build using a few parts. I have used the same mounting points as the standard bucket which can be easily swapped over as needed.

Video and photos can be found here: http://paulstechnic.blogspot.com.au/2014/12/lego-technic-42030-mod-fork-attachment.html

I thought you sold all your Lego and gave up? Nice to see you back though :classic:

Following on from my previous MOD attachment for LEGO Technic set 42030 I have just finished my next attachment, a grabbing claw.

This attachment is normally used in forestry type work but can also be used for general lifting and loading. I spent about 5 hours over a few days working on this, the most amount of time was on testing the claw to get the opening and closing working correctly. I have used the same mounting points as the standard bucket and my other attachment which can be easily swapped over as needed.

Thanks a lot to Efferman and Catweazel for sharing this MD and on top this great instructions... now - after eliminating this crappy because so jerky steering - the 42030 loader is a winner for me...

Just like efferman I modified the steering with mini LA's and a M-motor. I did this in September so I could use the Volvo moving crude wooden sawdust around during Legoworld the Netherlands. In order to have more power I reduced the gearratio 12:20.

I had no time to post this earlier.

See my Flickr ablum for detailed photo's. https://www.flickr.c...57649994492661/

42030 modified-02 by Barman76, on Flickr

To have a good control over all 4 functions, I made a dubble joystick controler. In the video you can see how it works. https://www.flickr.c...157649994492661

Instructions on how to make the controler, will be uploaded in a couple of days, in the same album.

Now when there is a Quick-change coupling we need some attachments for it

Pallet forks for example

L350_Quick_connect_pallet_forks.jpg

or is the crane arm more interesting?

L350_Quick_connect_crane_arm.jpg

I did fix the bucket too

L350_Quick_connect_Bucket.jpg

I have created LDD files for all three

https://www.dropbox.com/s/hkcdiffm07k2hw8/L350_Quick_connect_crane_arm.lxf

The big bucket does not exist in LDD yet so I have just made the adapter

Can you make the file in a different thing from dropbox

Down at the bottom end of Africa you still can't get truckloads delivered from Bricklink... And internartional incoming small packages have a nasty habit of disappearing in the postal system.

So I kinda have to make do with what I have :hmpf_bad:

Hi There

Try ordering from the USA or Netherlands shops on B-Link with DHL as courier. You should receive them within 6 weeks from date of order.

Your quick coupling system does it just hook on to the attachments or are there any pins holding it together.

I've heard several reports of people being unhappy with the 'jerky' steering on this model. One quick and easy mod that I did is to use the train remote for steering, and then connect the xl motor to the receiver that controls the steering. You get variable steering and speed which makes the model much more realistic, and when you steer while moving, it is fairly smooth.

I set the remotes up like this:

then connected the wires like this:

Like the quick attach idea very much!

LEGO Technic 42030 - MOD Road Grader Attachment

Following on from my previous MOC attachments for LEGO Technic set 42030 (Volvo loader) I have recently researched and built another attachment, this is a road grader.

I purchased a earthmoving trade magazine a couple of weeks ago and while reading this I can across this sort of attachment, the ones I saw were designed to be used with "bobcat" type tracked loaders, I have taken this idea and modified it for use on the Volvo loader.

The idea for this road grader attachment has been on my mind for the past week or so and I did some basic design work on this last weekend, my original idea was to simply have the blade raise and lower. Yesterday I was able to get a few hours to work on starting to build this, as I was working on building it I decided to see if I could also make the blade turn from side to side, this I felt would make it much more realistic and life like. After about five hours yesterday and another couple of hours today refining some details I am happy with how this has worked out.

This road grader attachment uses the standard mounting points and has two functions:

- Raise / lower (This uses the bucket lift remote function)

- Blade rotate (This uses the bucket tilt remote function)

Thought I'd try my hand at the quick connect, wanted to do something that's quick but fairly secure, so I made more of a quick clamp:

dscn1117r.jpg

I also made the bucket quick-attach:

dscn1118r.jpg

Then a set of forks with a headache rack:

dscn1119r.jpg

And finally a log grapple:

dscn1127r.jpg

The grapple has an m motor and a mini LA that opens and closes it, and is powered by a long extension cable that runs to a switch hidden under main hood:

LEGO Technic 42030 - MOD - Tilting Dozer Blade

I have just finished work on my latest MOD attachment for LEGO Technic set 42030 - Volvo Wheel Loader, this attachment is a tilting dozer blade.

Last week I built a road grader attachment, this didn't work out as well as what I had hoped so I pulled this to pieces and used the blade from this as the basis to build this dozer blade.

The remote bucket lift function lifts this and the remote bucket tilt functions tilts the blade backwards. It attaches to the Volvo wheel loader using the standard mounting points.

LEGO Technic 42030 - MOD: Lift and Carry Crane Attachment

Today I have finished my latest attachment for LEGO Technic set 42030, this is a lift and carry crane. The idea for this came about from a PDF file I found on the Volvo website which showed some of the attachments which Volvo offer for this model of wheel loader.

This attachment is used for lifting and carry various items such as pipes, timber and building materials.
