Hello,

so instead of studying I decided to plan a gantry crane inspired by the new 60052 cargo train set.

So it is a MOD, not a MOC.

I have already ordered some bricks, but not all. Here is what I came up with:

I used multiple wheels, because I think it will weight quite a lot.

I tried to make it compatible with the Maersk containers and keep it as simple as possible. Also being this big, I devised a way

to make its strong - I used some technic parts to strenghten the overall structure as you can see here:

I still don´t know how to make the winch work. I only came up with a temporary solution for a two rope variant.

So all in all, I think this will look nice (maybe after some changes) with my Maersk train.

Oh, and here is it compared to the containers and the .lxf file https://www.dropbox....qu6vu/Crane.lxf :D

Oh, and of course I will have to add a shed of some kind...

Well, it is a WIP and I am open to suggestions. Right now I don´t have much time at my hands, but I will post any updates soon.

But I agree that a control booth would be nice, but that would also require some ladders or stairs... I will look into it.

I'd say beef it up a bit like the real version Werlu Ulcur posted... Great design tho, but the rail the crane slides on could be higher. Not that it will make it more rigid, but for realistic looks. Also a control booth would be the icing on the cake.

Well I thought about making it taller, using 6004925, but I have only ordered 4 :sceptic: . I didn´t put a booth on it,

because I just wanted to make a slightly different version of the crane from the new cargo train set.

Cheap and simple was my motto  , but now I see this will not be the case.

What a simple and eloquent sliding mechanism with the pair of 2x8 plates with door rail to allow the crane to move laterally.

That idea is actually taken from the new cargo train crane.

Thank you dr_spock, I actually have the exam tomorrow, so I am doing a bit of procrastination right now  .

I have changed the design to use less technic bricks, because of price. I did not order parts for the booth and ladder, I will do it after I rework them.

The pricetag for now is about 30-35 Euros from brickling. I will upload the update in real bricks when they arrive.

Very nice design, and in Maersk colors, it looks even better! Looking forward to seeing more of the new official freight train, but this I'm sure will inspire quite a few people to try their own. Nice job!
