meyerc13 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I wonder if ecto1 fits into the Fire Brigade building... No, it won't. The garage door that LEGO makes and used in the Fire Brigade is 8 wide, while looking at the rear of this car it is more than that - the window is 6 wide, the fins are each a brick wide, bringing us to 8 wide, and then a plate and tile stick out on each side beyond that. So this is over 9 wide but the door is only 8 wide. I voted for this for the car and minifigs, but I love the building too. However, I don't believe we'll see anything out of Cuusoo beyond the $100 price tag for quite a while. I think this is for two reasons: 1)keeping these sets small reduces the risk for LEGO should one of these totally bomb in sales. 2)I suspect that non-LEGO fans who are often encouraged to vote for these licensed Cuusoo ideas put in ridiculously low and unrealistic prices when they are asked what they would be willing to pay, thus convincing LEGO that fans of Cuusoo want low price points. I hadn't thought about that but you're absolutely right. But TLG does have to try to get at least the same people that voted for it to buy it. If they answered honestly, then TLG is kind of right to try to keep them affordable. I think the Simpsons House will be a good test case for what non-AFOLs are willing to spend. Quote
Dorayaki Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 (edited) As for C, both of the Ghostbusters projects were basically for the same. Even if they decided to make two sets it wouldn't really amount to approving both (unless they gave us the fire house from the approved one). There's also the fact that there was most likely a -lot- of overlap in the votes, doesn't necessarily mean it's twice as popular. Well, the other upcoming BTTF projects are pobably from the same voters, and I don't think those who were fond of other licensed themes would only buy one Lego product as result. So as I said, there could have been two Ghostbuster sets base on two different scenes, one could be the car and the other could be the office. jonwil Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I for one WILL be buying this set no matter what, just the thought of getting the Ghostbusters and car in LEGO would be awesome. I just hope the Aussie pricing isn't as bad as it was for the BTTF set (which was more than twice as expensive as the US) BTW, do you guys think that they will create a new hairpiece for Bill Murray or will they use the Bruce Wayne headpiece? They have said new parts cant be made for Cuusoo so I dont see a new mold for this There was only a very limited number apparently, but you can see on the right side of this page that they were "sold in stores" at Toys R Us... http://www.toysrus.c...rentPage=search It was probably a very small number, maybe just 1,000 boxes put on the shelves as a test. And the ones put in the stores probably sold out almost immediately. So that means the experiment was a success, and so they'll probably try it again with a similar or larger number next time. It makes sense that if they are investing in making new printed pieces, etc, then they would certainly want to get those sets in front of customer's eyeballs every way they can! I bought the BTTF set from the US Toys R Us online store (first time ever buying LEGO from outside of Australia) because they had stock and Shop @ Home didn't :) Quote
SandMirror38 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 when will we see lego's offical model? And when will this be released?? I'll be going to america in september and would love to pick this set up in america so it's cheaper! Quote
WetWired Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Thanks for the support (those of you who voted :P) I dare say most of you found out before me, when I woke up this morning I had a ton of facebook messages and emails so I knew something was up, I went straight to cuusoo's blog and found out. Thankfully the text had already given it away as I think I'd be a wreck trying to watching the clip to find out. As for when it will be released, I have no idea, you all know as much as I do at this stage. Quote
Dr Leg O Brick Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Well done and thank you! Ghostbusters was a huge favourite of mine while growing up. I can't get over the idea that I'll be able to have official versions of Captain America, Marty, Venkman, Indiana Jones, Han Solo and Batman on one shelf. Never did I think I'd be able to do that when I became an AFOL. Planes, Trains, and Auto mobiles, Groundhog day and Scrooged MOC's anyone from Ray's and Peter's figures? Quote
Adverse Camber Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Are there LDD files for the fire house? I'd love to have a crack at making it myself. If not, I'll start with the picture and take it from there. Quote

If you don't mind a request, would you mind posting about your experience with CUUSOO, from the perspective of someone who got a set to pass the review? We haven't really heard that story yet, except through the brief comments found in the set instruction manuals. No sorry I don't have any instructions or LDD files for the firehouse, it's still intact though if you have any areas you're having trouble with I can try and take closer photos to give you a better idea of how it's made, it's relatively straightforward though. Just the fact that you found out through the public announcement like the rest of us is an interesting revelation, for example... There's not a lot to really reveal, any future interaction with TLG will likely be confidential. I did receive an email from cuusoo informing me of my creation passing review. But due to the time difference in a Australia it was down in a long list of emails I had received overnight. They may have actually sent it before it was officially announced. It was the same situation with my tumbler which didn't pass review, I found out the same way as everyone else due to the fact I tend to check social media and forums before email in the morning :P Quote
Doom2099 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I think this is a great idea, and should become a great set! Lego Ghostbuster minifigs and Ecto-1 should have lots of appeal. I do hope we'll get the firehall as well (it would be a great set to mix in with the modulars), but if the response is strong like it was with Minecraft, maybe we'll be in luck. Quote
WetWired Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 In case anyone is interested I did an interview with an Aussie lego blog about Lego Ghostbusters Quote

Elrond Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 c) "What happened to the other Ghostbusters Project?" I agree that Cuusoo is a competition that compares the models based on the same idea. However, I think two chosen projects should mean that this licesnse have big potential and should have two different sets based on this series. If TLC chose not to do so, I feel alittle upset, or bored. They answered that on the CUUSOO blog: "We had a special case during this review period: two projects based on the movie Ghostbusters reached 10,000 supporters within the same review period. At the time, we hadn’t fully considered a case like this. Our team looked both at both the immediate choice at hand and also at the precedent our decision sets for the future of the LEGO CUUSOO community. Ultimately we chose to base this LEGO CUUSOO set on the Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary project for two reasons; this project reached 10,000 supporters first, and our designers decided to base our upcoming set on BrentWaller’s car model. To clarify future cases, we’ve added a Guideline that states if two projects are based on a similar concept, we will consider the project that reaches 10,000 supporters first." No, I'm saying that why we're not getting two different sets, as I've mentioned. But there could be one problem for Cuusoo. The chosen project have a better car design, however, if the chosen project is asked to make the buiding one instead of the car, we'll get the losing car design as result. Or if both the buildig and the car from a single project are made, it would be a "theme project". I guess unless TLC volunteer, the creaotr still have to start another project that allow us to vote again. Quote

The Lego designers will make their own version anyway. Brent can confirm this but I'm pretty sure the firehouse was never part of the project and was only used as a background image. However, if sales are good, maybe we'll get more GB sets, who knows? Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Thanks, WetWired, for sharing your experience so far. And especially thank you for making the set possible. (I wonder if they'll include parts and stickers to build the Ecto-1A from GB2) I certainly hope so. I like the version from the first movie better, but it would be neat if they gave us the option for the second movie version as well. Quote
Brickmasta Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I am a fan of Ghostbusters since I was a little kid... I was born a year before the movie came to cinemas, what a shame that I was not able to see it there ;) I am so looking forward to this set, a dream comes true! As a kid I always built myself proton packs and traps out of Lego and mounted those on my back... !! Quote
Faefrost Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Uhmmm... after several announcements from the Cuusoo team, I'm not sure it's good news or not. a) Only one set chosen, even though Cuusoo have made it clear that it's not a seasonal competition that only one "winner" product comes out, it's still weird to see only one set chosen and they can't prove they're right. b) Oz is one of the pity for me. However, the other conecrn would be whether Disney would make the sequel to their own version of Oz. It could result in that TLC is more willing to make Oz under their Disney theme instead of the classic version. c) "What happened to the other Ghostbusters Project?" I agree that Cuusoo is a competition that compares the models based on the same idea. However, I think two chosen projects should mean that this licesnse have big potential and should have two different sets based on this series. If TLC chose not to do so, I feel alittle upset, or bored. d) The "looking into possiblity" female worker series is an ucertain one. It has nothing to do with licenses, and it sells. However it could be regarded as a repetitive concept with traditional City theme. Unless TLC already defines City as police or fire. We still don't have enough data on A. With the exception of the Oz set it is fairly easy to discern the decision path that led to Lego opting not to make them. In most cases a limited built in fan base. (Sorry fans, but I think the Poptropica project introduced more people to the game than had previously known of it. The same with FTL.) with the Oz set there could be numerous reasons for it to be turned down, that would be outside of our ability to ever know. Just as an example, Disney. Given Lego's ongoing relationship with Disney, they may have had some discussions or debate regarding sets based on Oz the Great and Powerful? Or a future sequel? Those discussions alone, even if they have not yet resulted in a production theme, could be enough to veto the Wizard of Oz set. Lego might not have been able to enter into a deal with MGM with Disney still on the table. That sort of thing. Or it could simply be they did not see a way to do it without a new part? My point is there is a danger of a hidden or unknown conflict in any licensed CuuSoo project proposal. And they will not always seem fair or seem to make sense to us, the casual outside observers. This does not make said conflicts any less legit or problematic. (As an example of a hidden conflict. Chances are TLG's undertaking of this movie Ghostbusters license would cause an automatic block of a CuuSoo project featuring Filmation's older live action or animated TV shows of the same name. You know the one with Spencer, Tracey and Kong in the antique car?) licensing can be annoyingly complex. Plus they technically did not simply choose one. The decision on the female minifig set is still outstanding. So that leaves open the probability that they are willing to do two. C. As for the other Ghostbusters project. I think they came to the only reasonable way to split the baby as it were. The core of both projects were the car and 4 figs. Both offered an option for the fire station. I don't think TLG would have the flexibility to morph them into 2 distinctly different things. Nor would there be a business case reason for doing so. Plus any other decision would become a license for idea poaching and copycat ride the bandwagon projects. The last thing they want to do is incentivize bad behavior via CuuSoo. D. If anything the female minifig line may be felt to conflict with the CMF line. But it is very small, and quite a good set on its own merit. Save for the social political baggage it carries. Quote
jonwil Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Looking at whats up for review next, I cant see Zelda getting up for the same reasons the other Zelda sets failed. I cant see the Adventure Time set making it either (unless the cartoon series is WAY more popular than I thought it was) Macross set is probably too hard given the wierd licensing for that whole universe in different countries and markets. Sherlock would depend on getting the licenses from BBC (and if needed the estate of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) plus it requires rather more new minifig printings and potentially recolored parts than a Cuusoo set would seem to be able to support. And I dont know how popular the show is with the right audience (heck, even I don't watch it and I normally like detective and crime shows) My prediction is that if anything from this next round is green lit, it will be the Japanese Architecture or (if the cartoon is popular enough and Warner is willing to license) the Adventure Time set assuming it doesn't need new molds or hard to produce prints. Borex Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 GHOSTBUSTERS! Yeah. I really hoped that one (well one of them since they were almost the same) was coming through. I want it!! Quote

I've had a lot of requests for instructions which aren't really planned but I can take a lot more close up photos and upload them for people to see how it's built. It's a relatively straightforward build, nothing too fancy. There is no interior though as it was mainly built for the Expo, I just threw it in the background of the cuusoo submission to add some interest. Quote
Dorayaki Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Why would we get two different sets based on the exact same car and characters? Uh, I meant "different characters and buildings", not "same". I'd like to see a smaller fire station project filing, along with Janine and Louis. Hope that TeeKay, who didn't pass, can also bring us a better project based on this series. D. If anything the female minifig line may be felt to conflict with the CMF line. But it is very small, and quite a good set on its own merit. Save for the social political baggage it carries. After the project, there comes a scientist and a contruction worker. I guess as long as CMF series expand, we would only see more and more female workers. So the point is whether the mini buildings take any advantage. For the City, I can see more of Gail's co-workers in the future, while female police and fire officers are already there. But these are a different story if Lego City isn't going to release any zoo, museum or laboratory set (at least the male mad scientist can apear in Monsters or Agent). Quote
