mapimi Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Hello to all I have a question regarding the Grand Emporium, which is, as we all know, the next Modular to go. I've been looking at the lego website in the Canada and the US, where it is out of stock with currently a back in stock date of Feb. 14th, but when looking last week the back in stock date was February 2nd. Does that mean that it is discontinued? Or do you guys think it will be back in stock before long? I was thinking of getting one and can still find some at Toys R Us, but that would mean missing the chance to get 150 extra VIP points. What do you guys think? Quote
Hrafnblod Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 God I hope not. I still need it. And it would really suck if they left Fire Brigade and its successors around so long only to start rapid-fire retirement for them, FB hasn't been EOL for very long. Quote
sin Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Yeah I highly doubt that they would discontinue this so soon after FB. If there is a change of the date posted on the website its probably due to supply chain issues or something of the like. Quote
mapimi Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 Alright, thanks a lot :) That's good news, would have a hard time forgiven myself if I missed it Quote
TheLegoDr Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Is it on the retiring soon page? Depending on how many they have left in production or in stock at their warehouse, that could give some indication to how much longer it has. Although even if it is or isn't on the list, it could still sell out quickly. I'd think they only kept FB around do long because of that error they had with the missing bag. So I wouldn't expect the rest to last as long as that, unless they are selling so incredibly well they can have that many in production at the same time. PR, PC, TH, PS, and GE...That's a lot at once, when they used to only have three out at a time. Quote
Dayton Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Yeah there are three more modulars so i would believe so. Quote
Godtshep Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 You can tell when a set retires by checking Brickset. Quote
XeniK Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) They are still selling the Grand Emporium at shop.lego.com.. But i do think that Brickset indeed is the best way to check when it retires.. Edited February 3, 2014 by XeniK Quote
dragofoscar Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I think it will be EOL by end of this year. A 5 Years cycle you can see very often. The big star wars set even longer I suppose. This is a tool against the astronomous after amrket prices. Quote

Either way, the GE is next to go. It could go this month or next or in five. But, it will have to go this calendar year I would think. If you do not yet have it, I would not put it off much longer. ms 10/24/07 04/14/09 538 days 1.5 years cc 10/24/07 12/06/09 774 days 2.1 years gg 03/05/08 11/08/09 613 days 1.7 years fb 09/12/09 12/30/13 1570 days 4.3 years ge 03/03/10 02/03/14 1434 days 3.9 years ps 05/12/11 02/03/14 999 days 2.7 years th 03/03/12 02/03/14 703 days 1.9 years pc 02/14/13 02/03/14 355 days 1.0 years pr 01/01/14 02/03/14 34 days 0.1 years DS 06/10/08 02/03/14 2065 days 5.7 years Edited February 5, 2014 by Follows Closely Quote

Inzane Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 ^ And I didn't realize the first three all got retired within such close proximity to each other. Quote
Follows Closely Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) ^ Death Star (10188) I included in the list 3 years ago when there where only a few modulars. Now it does not make much sense in this list. Edited February 3, 2014 by Follows Closely Quote
sin Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 What is DS? Death Star - though I am not sure it's such a good comparison to the modular line. I doubt there will ever be another set that has that long of a shelf life... Quote
Maiday Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I didn't realize the GE was released so close to FB. That's kind of interesting. or PS being so close to TH I want to get another GE so hope it doesnt go out of stock before july. as for the uk lego shop its still on there with no problems. Quote
mapimi Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 Brickset is having problems at the moment but when I checked last it said 2010-Jan 1st 2014 as availability date for GE in US and Canada, but don't know how accurate that date is as lego still has it on their website (albeit out of stock at the moment) Quote

If Brickset knew when things were going EOL definitively, Brickpickers wouldn't need to have so much debate about it. Quote

PR, PC, TH, PS, and GE...That's a lot at once, when they used to only have three out at a time. This. They may not plan on formally retiring it until much later this year. But this late in its lifecycle chances are good that they will not order another production run of the set. So if what is on shelves and in the warehouse sells out, than that will be the defacto retirement. Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Glad I bought this one for Christmas. It has really grown on me since building it. Even my wife, who generally ignores all things Lego commented on it. She really likes the window washer for some reason. Quote
Boettner Builds Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I also got one for Christmas. It has really gotten me out of the "dark ages". I had to give up some other hobbies so I can give into this new addiction :) Quote
Stefano Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 meh thank god i listened to my demons and bought 2 fire brigades and a grand emporium extra.... Quote
TheBrickPal Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 It is discontinued, as well as a few of the first Modular Buildings, like Market Street and Cafe Corner. Shame, I never got to get any of them! Quote
jfbat Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 It is discontinued Still available over here at S@H, so I don't think Grand Emporium is discontinued. Quote
Galaxy Explorer Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 The new Spring SAH catalog still has it featured- just got it in the mail yesterday. Quote
