Hello to all

I have a question regarding the Grand Emporium, which is, as we all know, the next Modular to go. I've been looking at the lego website in the Canada and the US, where it is out of stock with currently a back in stock date of Feb. 14th, but when looking last week the back in stock date was February 2nd. Does that mean that it is discontinued? Or do you guys think it will be back in stock before long? I was thinking of getting one and can still find some at Toys R Us, but that would mean missing the chance to get 150 extra VIP points. What do you guys think?

God I hope not. I still need it. And it would really suck if they left Fire Brigade and its successors around so long only to start rapid-fire retirement for them, FB hasn't been EOL for very long.

Yeah I highly doubt that they would discontinue this so soon after FB. If there is a change of the date posted on the website its probably due to supply chain issues or something of the like.

Is it on the retiring soon page? Depending on how many they have left in production or in stock at their warehouse, that could give some indication to how much longer it has. Although even if it is or isn't on the list, it could still sell out quickly. I'd think they only kept FB around do long because of that error they had with the missing bag. So I wouldn't expect the rest to last as long as that, unless they are selling so incredibly well they can have that many in production at the same time. PR, PC, TH, PS, and GE...That's a lot at once, when they used to only have three out at a time.

They are still selling the Grand Emporium at shop.lego.com.. But i do think that Brickset indeed is the best way to check when it retires..

I think it will be EOL by end of this year. A 5 Years cycle you can see very often. The big star wars set even longer I suppose. This is a tool against the astronomous after amrket prices.

I don't know if it is to combat reselling as much as it it to maximize profit. Either way, the GE is next to go. It could go this month or next or in five. But, it will have to go this calendar year I would think. If you do not yet have it, I would not put it off much longer.

I didn't realize the GE was released so close to FB. That's kind of interesting.

What is DS?

Death Star - though I am not sure it's such a good comparison to the modular line. I doubt there will ever be another set that has that long of a shelf life...

Brickset is having problems at the moment but when I checked last it said 2010-Jan 1st 2014 as availability date for GE in US and Canada, but don't know how accurate that date is as lego still has it on their website (albeit out of stock at the moment)

I seriously doubt Brickset has any special knowledge of when it's going to retire. 2010-Jan 2014 most likely just means last time that entry was updated (in January) it was still available. If Brickset knew when things were going EOL definitively, Brickpickers wouldn't need to have so much debate about it.

This. They may not plan on formally retiring it until much later this year. But this late in its lifecycle chances are good that they will not order another production run of the set. So if what is on shelves and in the warehouse sells out, than that will be the defacto retirement.

Glad I bought this one for Christmas. It has really grown on me since building it. Even my wife, who generally ignores all things Lego commented on it. She really likes the window washer for some reason.
