On the main trade route from Mitgardia to Nocturnus you will come upon Sultans Gate, a city turned to ruins. But we Kaliphliners are returning it to it's former glory! This is my entry to the main gate challenge for the Sultans Gate community build.

I like the first shot's perspective. The gate does fit into the rocks well. I am not so keen on the tree, but I think it is cool to have the growth coming out. The design of the gate is simple but attractive. My concern lays with the windows at ground level, since that would not be very defensive! All in all, I think it looks like it would be an awesome playset, and it is very much in the spirit of Lego official sets.

Nice job. Good gate design, and I like the addition of a tree. The medium-dark-flesh and white colors are a great combo.

Suggestions for the build: 1) a bit more desertscaping on the ground would help break up the monotony of the tan baseplate; even some 1x1 round plates or 1x2 plates scattered around would help give it a bit of texture, and 2) I think another 3 layers of bricks above the gate would give it size it really needs to be a city gate. As it is now, that swordsman over the gate almost looks like he's standing on top of the door.

The perspective in the first photo is great. But that second photo -- need to re-shoot that one, too fuzzy (but you knew that)! And you should probably get a few pieces of foamcore board (available at Michaels, and plenty of other places) to use as backgrounds. And if you shoot outside, on a sunny day, but put the MOC into light shade, you won't get those glaring light reflections.

@NiceMarmot Thanks for the tips! On a different note, I recently made a build for Carn. Should I put it on the Kaliphlin sign-up page or make my own thread to it? :sceptic:

Most builds should go into their own thread. The exceptions would be only if you're building for a contest/challenge that specifically asks you to post in the contest's thread, or work-in-progress photos (which should go in the guild thread), or really small builds or vignettes that you feel aren't worth their own thread (which should go in the guild thread also), but those would be pretty small.

EDIT: By the way, re photos, I've found that shooting outside even on a cloudy day delivers better photos than shooting indoors. A cloudy day outdoors is way brighter than most indoor shots, unless you have a full-on photo setup with multiple, diffused lights. And avoid using the flash at all costs, as it leaves big splotchy reflections on the bricks. If you search around on Eurobricks, you'll probably find whole threads devoted to tips on taking photos of LEGO. It definitely took me quite a while to start to get it right, and I've probably got a long way to go.

Looks promising! The colours works great togheter!

I echo the great advices you got from NM. Why did you take a pic of the back? It looks very unfinished..? I don´t take pics of all of the sides of my mocs as they tend to be very blocky, full of different bricks in different colours as support for the moc. :classic:

Keep building, keep improving! :thumbup::classic:

Good use of the Alamut gate :classic:

I do however agree with previous comments that you should not post pictures which are not crisp, as that at least to me lowers the whole impression quite a bit.

I also think you should be careful choosing your camera angles, there's no problem with only building some sides of a MOC (some of the best builders out there are "cheating" in this way). You should however not post those pictures unless it is for example to show some clever technique you've used on the back.

Anyway, if you want there's still plenty of time to submit an improved MOC with the feedback you've received...after all, improving your MOCing and presentation skills is what GoH is really about :classic:
