Heroica RPG- Quest #96: Tying up Loose Ends

[Sandy]

Boomingham turns to Ellaria. "Servus elected to stay behind. I can't say I blame him."

"Yes, I remember now", Ellaria says blushing. "I wouldn't want to see this city ever again either if I were in his place."

"But time's a-wasting, so let us depart already."

[Pandora]

"But time's a-wasting, so let us depart already."

"Right behind you, I just need my ruby back. And the rest of my stuff too. And if we could fit in a bit of minor arson on the way I'd really feel a whole lot better too."

[Scubacarrot]

"This city's port for pirates, slavers and a worse scum. But Strivvi is not lawless. Their ships can port, and partake in what the city has to offer, but they can't go and harass the villages beyond the gates. Plus, you'll be wanting back in the city, right? Take your stuff before you go, and don't forget to leave your things in the chest when you come back. Feel free to bring Mortimer here too if you succeed and feel the need to, although I'll leave that up to you, I'll go out in a bit."

The heroes memorize instruction given by the infiltrator, and then go on their way. The heroes took back all their weapons when up, leaving only Purple's. Outside, they see that the sun has come back, and it is starting to get warm already. The part of the city where the heroes are seems fairly quiet, with only now and then a cloaked figure or turbaned person passing by. Every so often, the heroes see carts filled with all kinds of goods, pulled by large lizard creatures, horses or simply people heading one way or the other. Finally, the heroes find where they need to be. There seems to be a single guard in front of the massive warehouse building, closer to the ocean than they've been since they arrived in the city.

[CMP]

Atramor looked for motion in the window, and around the general area to see if there were any passerby in the immediate area.

[Scubacarrot]

The window is too high up to see anything but the ceiling. There are no passersby, for the moment. Atramor notices that they are in a fairly narrow street. If someone comes from either direction, they'd see. Every now and then someone moves past the alley, but no one goes in. The guard looks at the heroes uncomfortably.

"Hi there!" Ellaria says to the guard with a friendly smile. "We want in, and you are going to let us there. Alright?"

[Scubacarrot]

"Errm. Uhm. No. I don't think so."

Ellaria sighs. "Look, there's five of us and one of you. Either you summon your friends here and we solve this with blades, or you be a sensible fellow and just let us in. Which one is it?"

[Waterbrick Down]

Skrall addressed the man. "Well I was gonna be reasonable and ask how much a sight seein' tour of the insides of this buildin' cost, but the little lady seems to have jumped right to the point. Unless of course yer willin' to ask a reasonable sum..."

[Scubacarrot]

"Look. Even if I could let you in, in there, there are twice as many people with three times as many weapons. But you're out of luck. The door is barred from the inside. You better just move on."

[CMP]

"Sound suggestion, mate, 'cept there's a ladder, right there, and a huge damn window in the building, up there. Nice to know ya' service guests so well, though."

Skrall addressed the man. "Well I was gonna be reasonable and ask how much a sight seein' tour of the insides of this buildin' cost, but the little lady seems to have jumped right to the point. Unless of course yer willin' to ask a reasonable sum..."

The man scratches his ears. "Okay, I'm not stupid. And I'm all for a little gold on the side, if you catch my meaning. I can't let you in, as I said. But I've been told there's another way in. But of course, I can't just let you do that, if I do, my employer will be very upset with me. So if you can make me a good offer and think of a way I can get away with it, I'll help you get in."

"Sound suggestion, mate, 'cept there's a ladder, right there, and a huge damn window in the building, up there. Nice to know ya' service guests so well, though."

"Yeah... That seems really convenient, now that you put it like that."

[CMP]

"Tell you what," offered Atramor intimidatingly. "How about you piss off, don't come back, and you won't end up like your friends inside. Good enough offer for ya'?"

[Scubacarrot]

"Aww man, not cool. The big one offered me gold. Look, I'm only in it for the money."

[Waterbrick Down]

Skrall flipped the man 10 Gold. "Now make yerself scarce."

[Scubacarrot]

"Appreciate it. If you don't mind, I'd prefer if I just lie down on the ground like this." The man goes to lie down on the ground. "See, then they think you guys knocked me out and I'll be fine. Unless one of you wants to actually knock me out. Please don't."

[CMP]

"You sure ya' don't want me to smash a few ribs, make it look authentic?"

Atramor set up the ladder as quietly as he could.

[Scubacarrot]

The man gulps on the ground, and closes his eyes.

Atramor sets up the ladder. It doesn't reach the window by about another length of the ladder. Unfortunately, there is no convenient second ladder.

[Waterbrick Down]

"I can always hold the ladder up."

[Zepher]

"The way he makes it sound, we'll need you on the inside, Ogre. Anyone have any particularly heavy duty bombs? I've always been one for making a big entrance."

[Waterbrick Down]

"Perhaps a Garnet or some other sort of magic spell might be useful." The ogre shrugged.

[Zepher]

"I've a different idea, especially if Elpis is looking to try the direct approach." Boomingham politely knocks on the door. "And, of course, if that doesn't work, Mlle. Nyx is more than adept at burning wood, which, coincidentally, this door seems to be made of."

[CMP]

"Along with half the damn city, Boomin'ham. You're actually gonna try to reason with these bastards?"

[Scubacarrot]

Boomingham knocks the door. There's is no answer. What he does find is that the door is oddly thick.

[Zepher]

"Not very friendly." Boomingham shrugs. "I figure we'll have to scrounge around for another ladder, unless any of you are willing to toss one Hel of a Bomb at the door. One of those particularly big boys are sure to do the trick. But, you know, we could look around a little." Boomingham glances at the man lying down. "Hey, you! Do you know if there's a ladder merchant around, or something?"
