"Great job, everyone!" Ellaria exclaims, before turning to the rockling. "We are indeed heroes of Heroica. We've been meaning to come to your rescue for a long time now, Mr. Mortimer. Let us escort you to our safehouse, and we'll discuss more there."

She then deals out the spoils of the battle. The Wolfgang emblems look useful for a possible infiltration among their ranks... She's also careful to search the warehouse for anything useful.

"No one ever notices me, except that nice elf lady," whines Barty to Ellaria.

"I bloody noticed you. Gah, you're getting more like Larry all the damn time"

Nyx looks over Ellaria's shoulder as she sorts through the loot. "Slim pickings, given the number of them. Thanks" she adds, taking the insignia. "I suspect the only use for this is to weasel our way into the Wolfgang. Some reward. :sceptic:"

"Hello Mortimer, very nice to meet you. If you eat any of my gems I'll ram my arm down your throat and take it back. Just so's you know." she grins cheerily at the Rockling.

"I think Patricia has a bounty on out on the things, mate," remarked Atramor, stuffing the torn insignia offered to him down into his coat.

Atramor cuts the rope, Skrall catches the man, and sure enough, soon the rockling is back on his feet.

"Ah... Much better, now were did those scoundrels put it..." The Rockling rummages through some of the boxes, and then pulls out a brimmed, brown hat, that he plants on his rocky head.

"There, can't be an archeologist without it, now can you?!"

The rockling stretches his legs, for as much as a rockling can, and proceeded to answer the questions asked of him.

"As you already guessed, I am Mortimer, the great archeologist. It seems my reputation precedes me, ho ho. I'm fine, even though hanging around, or being locked up, chained in different places for this long is unpleasant, even for a rockling. I thank you for saving me, even though it couldn't be timelier. Those chaps are dead. Them trying to kill us again would be a new experience for me, although I'm sure it happens to you all the time. We can discuss things here, quite right. Gems, miss mage? I am quite a civilized rockling, if I may have the audacity to describe myself as such, I will refrain from nibbling on your baubles unless you wish for me to. Worse for wear, to be sure, to be sure I am tired and these chaps did not take the effort to feet a rockling proper things a rockling needs. I'm as much rock as the next rockling, I could do with a good meal and a strong drink, how about you chappo's? Tell you what, ask what you will of me, then we'll go to have a good supper and a nice drink, and then we shall go to your safehouse!"

Ellaria looks around for anything useful, but there's a lot of boxes, barrels and other containers. Perhaps she would like to be more specific of where she suspects something useful might be?

Atramor stacks some small crates into stairs, grabbing the staff off of the column of them against the wall in the back of the room, then climbs down to examine (and apply his badass lockpicking skill to) the safe sitting to the side of it.

"What do ya' know about this vault, and the Wolfgang tryin' to bust into it?"

"That vault...? It's just one of the things that's here. I think this was originally some pirate's warehouse... OH! You mean THE vault, chap! Of course, of course. I know where it is, and the Wolfgang, or the daymaster and the nightmaster and their ilk know it now as well. What do you know of it? You know of course that in the stories the vault contained whatever the opener wanted. The holders of the key... Which should be you! Of course, we can't know for sure if the stories are true, but for the chance that they are, someone should open the vault before they can, so the wolfgang can never use the contents of the vault for their own plans. They suspected you would come for me, and that you would have the keystone, that's why I was under such heavy guard. Something must have ticked them off, there were not near as many guards as usual. You came at an oppertune time!

The staff, turns out to be a large Flail.

Over-Sized Flail - WP: 16 Does double damage on targets that are CLEARLY smaller than the wielder. Hammer type weapon.

The safe doesn't open. Does Atramor want to risk one of his weapons to possibly force the lock, and possibly cause the weapon to break? (A die will be rolled, at 1-2, the vault will spring open, at 3, the vault springs open, but the weapon will lose 3 WP, at 4 nothing happens and the lock will be blocked, at 5 the weapon will lose 3 WP, at 6, the Weapon used is destroyed, and the lock is blocked)

"You say that as if it were a bad thing," grumbles Boomingham lamely at Nyx, almost hiding the statement under his breath. Barty too shoots her an acidic look. Boomingham wanders off towards Atramor. "Having trouble there, boy-o? Perhaps we should use one of those spears or knives Ellaria is holding on to to try to force the thing." Boomingham glances over his shoulder as the Rockling rambles. "Don't know if such a high profile fellow such as yourself should be having dinner out on the town. Don't you figure the Wolfgang will be looking for you? Or do you think they've already gotten what they've wanted? Were you the one who told them where the vault was? Kind of you, to give them a sporting chance at finding it."

"Well, I never! I certainly did not do any of those things. But unless these chaps, there are some of those thugs that are not complete halfwits, they eventually found what they were looking for among my research. It's been a while you know. They might get word of this happening soon, and their priority will then be to intercept you, as I said, I believe I was mostly just bait at this point in time."

Atramor doesn't even think about it before handing the massive flail over to Skrall, then kneeling down by the safe, examining it thoroughly. McCafferey landed on his shoulder once again as he peered over the lock, both of them looking deep in thought for entirely different reasons.

"Damn. Locks have gotten much more troublesome over the past few years," he grumbles, scratching his chin. "These tumblers stiff as spears, these springs are coiled tighter than a black adder. Who the hell keeps supplyin' bastards like these with unbreakable locks? Boomingham, see if ya' can get your Scroll of Frailty to make things more manageable. Then we'll use some of those Knives Ellaria's holdin' on to to try and pop it open."

"Hm, forgot they got all your stuff last time we were here. Suppose that was more on us than you." Boomingham shrugs and whacks his fingers against his head. "Stuff just tumbles out of this. Still, chap, got to wonder about us getting a bite of food. What'd you have in mind." Boomingham blinks. His eyes feel red hot all of a sudden. "Though I wouldn't mind some shut eye. Haven't slept since we got here."

"I guess I might as well give it a shot. Don't really know how the scrolls work, in all honesty." Boomingham reads from his scroll of fragility, concentrating on the lock.

"It's a fine hat Mr Mortimer, I like it very much. And the suggestion of food and drink, too." Nyx smiles at the friendly rockling, just as her stomach growls loudly at the mention of food.

"So I think we can assume that the Wolfgang will by lying in wait again when we find the vault. They'll probably try to take the key from us just at the point where we try to open the vault. I wonder, is there any way of tracking down the Daymaster and Nightmaster beforehand and just ending them so that doesn't happen? Maybe our other friend will know."

As she talks, Nyx opens the barrels to Mortimer's left and lifts down the chest resting on top of them to examine and open.

Ellaria can almost feel the Keystone getting heavier in her bag. "I'm leaning more and more on the option that we should just get rid of this Keystone and let the vault remain sealed. Although getting what you desire the most... it is a tempting thought."

Ellaria is lost in her memories for a long while, before Atramor clears his throat. "Oh, sorry! You wanted one of the knives, then? Here you go!" Ellaria hands Atramor a knife (WP:5), not trusting her own lockpicking prowess.

Atramor tries to lever open the lock once it is fragile with the Knife.

Boomingham spends an ether to make the lock fragile... And causes the lock to be more susceptible to breaking, but also more susceptible to being blocked. (the odds changed to a 50% chance to open the lock, and a 2/6 chance to block the lock and lose 3 WP, with a 6 causing the weapon to break and the lock to be blocked.

Atramor levers the knife inside the lock, and... causes the safe to spring open! It seems Boomingham's scroll reading helped, and was not for nothing, after all. Atramor finds a Ruby inside, as well as a sack containing 50 gold, and the knife used remains in good condition.

"Aah! Well done, well done. I was thinking we could go to this fine tavern I know a few blocks from here... If here is where I think it is, warehouse district, east of the palace? Yes, yes, it's a good place, if nothing has changed over the months, that is. Unless you have any more questions?"

"Look what the vault's drivin' people to do. Hell, it's probably safer to open it and put an end to this crap." Atramor twists open the lock with badass ease and digs through the loot before tossing it and the Knife back to Ellaria.
