One of the most puzzling mysteries in the Lego Movie Sets for me was the differences between the film MetalBeard and the set MetalBeard. They could have easily done the pirate exactly like they did in he movie, but they didn't. Any thoughts as to why this happened?

They were probably last-minute changes to the model after the set had been finalized. And what changes there are are very minute, like an extra chain or two and a gear. I'd like to see someone compile a list of the parts needed to 'complete' the Metalbeard set.

Almost everything in the movie has a few changes from their set counterparts, I believe that they are improvements? Of course, I'm not really happy about it.

The lock and chest were easy enough to fix to look like the movie...the extra chains are also an easy fix. The gears on his shoulder are different and I think there are some changes to his left peg leg....also can't figure out what is going on with the extra cannon on his left arm. Curious what the smaller metal beard looks like that comes with the sea cow.

Agreed. I wish they had waited until the movie was out to release the sets so that they would match. At least all the reviews of the movie have been great so far - that's the more important thing in my book. We can always update the sets with our own pieces but we wouldn't have been able to fix a terrible movie.

Just curious, do things like Metalbeard consistently maintain the same parts in the movie? There were times where the Movie seemed the "cheat" and parts would spontaneously generate where none had been there before. For example, there's a moment where Unikitty "walks," and her 1 x 3 sloped legs are replaced by something larger in order to simulate her walking. There's also a wacky example in Business' tower where Metalbeard turns into something (I won't spoil what) which isn't possible with his parts in the film or the toy.

Point is, I'm wondering if Metalbeard looks exactly the same through the whole movie, or if the toy version appears at some point based on the animators' needs.

I believe at a certain point in the third act metal beard is the version that we will see in the sea cow.

I do think the metal beard we have is pretty accurate to the film...I think I know what you are referring to in the third act about Metlabeard, but don't want to give away any spoilers :)

I found at least three different used bricks between the movie and the set. So it's not that different :)

Why are u afraid of spoiling they showed in the behind the scenes movie. Also Metalbeard's beard moves in the movie when he scratches it

from what i saw, metalbeards back was constructed pretty differently, he had a few extra chains, a different cannon arm with different connections and a third bit (a scope?), the "ammo wheel" had a dish on the back of it, didnt appear to be on a technic beam, and had black ball joints instead of 1x1 cylinders, a few differences in the flag pole bit, taller legs (by atleast 2 studs), and (this one may have just been me not paying attention) it didnt looklike he had the metal eye patch his set form has.

I've built my own version of the Movie Metalbeard (Here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/yellow_volkswagen/12137554353/ )

Most of the changes made in the official set seemed to be for stability during play. The gears LEGO used on his shoulders stay on better than the movie version, and the assembly for his cannon hand is more stable in the LEGO version. The peg leg is the biggest problem in the movie version though, because the Technic rod running through his leg would only be held on by a 2x2 round plate and the bottom of the barrel. The LEGO set version has a Technic 1x2 brick helping keep it in place, along with the plate and barrel. I chose to keep the LEGO version leg so that he stands more easily.

Thankfully all the asthetic changes are pretty easy to change, save for the chain on his arm, which doesn't exist in the correct length/color yet.

I have spent a lot of time rebuilding metal beard to match the movie. Boy are they a lot of diffrences! all very subtle. Some of the bricks are unavailable in the right colours.I also built a LDD version, generated instructions and BOM.Here is a .zip with all the good stuff.https://drive.google...iew?usp=sharing
