wow, there is so much historical accuracy in this moc, it's hard to believe we're still talking Lego here! I definetely admire the whole thing quite a bit! (actually I like everything you build despite you being just another sneaky Kaliphlin  )

Lovely detailing on the great hall, the red roof draws the eye nicely and I like the numerous spires on the roof  The cellar entrance and stairs look great too

I'm not sure if this or the North Tower is my favorite section, they're both so good :classic:

Thanks guys! I'm glad the small details also were appreciated :classic:

I'm trying to achieve some measure of historical accuracy, while still being able to build with my (relatively to what would be required for true minifig scale at least) limited amout of bricks. So the scale and level of "accurate" details is always a compromise...

How. That's my only question. How

A fair amount of bricks, too many nights with too little sleep and a supporting family. But I've gotten it explained to me quite clearly now that its not acceptable to start another project on this scale

A question to you here: If I were to modify my castle instead of dismantling it after getting it back from Lego World, do you think it would look good if I were to rebuild the section along the left wall (removing the tree and low kitchen building) and add some more two-storey buildings on that side? I'm also thinking that the rear wall should be slightly lower to match the other walls on this side, as I built it that high because the ground (which is never really seen anyway) on the back side were too high and I wanted a wall there with the same height above the rocks there as the wall. That would mean removing those lower level arrow slits however and just let the storehouses' roofs go back to the wall (if not the storehouses were to get an upper floor also)?

I'd say, leave the castle as it is on the inside and add to the outside, like would be done in a normal castle, this one of my hometown for instance:

groessenaenderungschloss_vom_agnesberg_photo_janos_stekovics.jpg

got enlarged every hundred years or so within its 800 years of existance, so from the above it looks like this:

as you can see, ring after ring was added to the original structure in the center

This is so amazing. It must have taken a long time to create such awesomeness... The size combined with all the details is really great. That tree is really cool too, and I like how you made the roots visible as they go into the ground. Three thumbs up   .

Gideon, I've been breaking my head for several days now about how you did the roof ridge on the great hall. I wonder if you were willing to reveal how you acomplished this ...

Thanks! Yes, it took much more time than I had planned, it was quite a few short nights the weeks before the deadline to finish it

It's not a very complicated technique, it was just the solution I settled on with my limited supply of dark red pieces (and zero ridge slopes...). I'm alternating cheese slopes put on a 1x2 plate with 1x2 tiles put on jumper plates (a mix of 1x2 and 2x2) in between the cheese slopes as you might be able to see from the zoomed-in picture I added below. (I added a guest pass to the picture so you can click it if you want to zoom in even more).

Btw, the first post has finally been updated with a picture of the whole castle:

Great build!

I was trying to build a large scale castle, but I kept getting blocked (plus no time!). This is inspiring. I'd like something enclosed like this with some nice towers.

You have great wall effect to break up the same color scheme. The roofing does look awesome. The steps work really well and I considered doing something similar.

Other than time, my only concern is sourcing enough brick for something like this. Only because I have so many other projects right now!

Keep up the great work!

The Great hall building with all the deails is both lovely and magnfigent! The shape of the gothic house with a red roof is beautiful, and I especially like these windows!

Ok...I must say I'm shocked! Realy realy don't know why you have to build your castle like you build it. *oh2*

This castle creation covers my thoughts about my upcomming castle moc of about 99%. Everything has the right proportions, details, ideas and things. River, bridge, towers, interior...

So in short: Thanks for this MOC - that's my favorite castle build of 2014.
