The walls of Stoneroda. The town had seen better days. It's destruction hadn't dimmed the indomitable Mitgardian spirit though, and the town was being rebuilt as a garrison for Mitgardia's soldiers.

The current political unrest between Mitgardia and Kaliphlin reared it's ugly head, with a mounted Mitgardian soldier dragging a chained privateer in the colours of Kaliphlin behind him.

Mitgardian soldiers up here have grim countenaces.

Further along the walls a famous bearded lady of Mitgardia observes the work of stonemasons as they build the wall that will surround Stoneroda.

Inside the town's walls, the atmosphere is cheerier, with the bustle of life in Mitgardia watched over by guards on the walls.

In the midst of all of this, Lord Vladivus arrives accompanied by Necromancer Krell. His scouts have recently discovered the demise of Corocus, and has tracked the murderers to Stoneroda, where Vladivus is meeting a famed Mitgardian hunter- Sigvald Kabelsson.

Lord Vladivus: "Greetings Sigvald, I trust you have the information I seek?"

Sigvald: "I do indeed. It is a sad time, it would appear the Black Spire's reach extends far. I tracked a party of soldiers fleeing Nocturnus through Mitgardia. They passed along the road towards Avalonia. One of them carried a mighty sword that seemed to glow of it's own accord- such witchcraft does not sit well with me. I fear you may find the answers you seek in Avalonia my friend."

Vladivus: "You're help has been invaluable."

He turns to Krell.

"Well, it seems it is to Avalonia that I must travel. Prepare the troops, and have them meet me at my ancestral home. This heresy must end."

So, a freebuild to explain my characters presence in Avalonia when the challenge starts. I went to Mitgardia, as 1) I wanted to build there, and 2) Some of the characters will probably crop up in the Mitgradia challenges, so I wanted to introduce them now.

Obviously Stoneroda is kabel's town, so credit goes to him, I hope I've done it justice. I tried to channel some of his building style, without compromising on mine. Tricky. C+C very welcome, this is the biggest MOC I've attempted to date, and whilst I'm pleased with it, I keep coming back to it and fiddling. I'm more used to smaller MOCs!

As ever, more pictures on my Flickr.

Cheers.

I really like the story well done! :) everything bout it oozes character and so much action going on I really like it :) as for the tinkering, that happens when you make bigger builds, I have that problem all the time ;) can't wait for your next moc :)

Cheers! When I make smaller MOCs, it's easier to "finish" them, as there's less of them. Even now, this one is sitting there and I'm thinking, if I just change that, move that fig slightly. I dread to think what would happen if I made a giant one... This will probably be my biggest one for a while, I'll likely only manage the smaller category in the Avalonia challenge as I'm moving!

As a side note, I forgot in my original post, but I've tried to include things like the Avalonian flower love, Mitgardian bearded ladies and the Kali-Mitgardia trash talking, to inject a little humour.

I love this all the way, especially all those little side plots that add so much character. Great hommage to my first city, which was actually my first big one here!

Thanks kabel, I'm pleased you like it! I got a bit carried away, and reasoned that I could add a few side plots- makes it feel more like a town, rather than something that just exists to facilitate my character. I also managed to make a complete, rather than ruined house, I remembered I had a bag of old red bricks in the loft. I hope you noticed the name of the hunter- I couldn't resist paying homage to you specifically!

Oh, that's a good idea... I should think about doing more of that. Great job on the build!

Wow. Just wow. This is perfect! It took me a second to recognize the woman out front. At first I was thinking, "Opps, he accidentally used a female head for that bearded man." Then I remembered that Mitgardia's women are famous for their beards! I love the continuation of the Mitgardian/Kaliphlin conflict, the roof of your house, and the blacksmith's forge. Great work!

"a famous bearded lady"

Damn you xDD

Great action and details packed in a "small" moc... Lovely scenes there.. The builder also looks cool. Great!

This is excellent work. Having both sides of the wall depicting separate story lines was a fantastic idea, and, you get some kudos from me for what I assume are curtains in the window of the house.

Excellent build, the wall looks great and the whole scene looks very alive with all the figs going about their business  Cute cottage too, my only suggestion is to cap the roof with a stack of 1x1 round bricks in either reddish brown or tan :classic:

Very nice build overall, and especially the minifigures!

The story-writing is excellent as usual, and I really enjoy that you are fueling the intra-guild trash talk :classic:
