Captain K. Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Hello, I have built this lighthouse. The lighthouse is part of my new project. It shall become once a whole port area, by the name" Puerto de La Cruz ". So the lighthouse is the first part of the port. There are more pictures: Brickshelf Captain K. Quote
oDDerFisken Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 WOW! That is one hell of a MOC. Really nice! Well chosen colors (and where they are placed) and nice features like the gate and custom made cannons. Great work! Quote
Asuka Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Great! I love lighthouses! *sweet* Yours is really beautiful with an impressive tower and good proportions. *y* Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 1, 2007 Governor Posted May 1, 2007 I too am quite impressed with this lighthouse! Captain. K you have quite marvellously captured a lighthouse within the aesthetic context of the Imperial Guard theme. You've also striked a nice blend between the newer colours, (I.e. bley and light stone) with the older traditional colours of the theme. Quote
oo7 Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Very cool! You've captured a great atmosphere here, and the stonewall background is a definite contributor. I assume the Rebel Blockade Runner made this feat quite a bit easier? I think there's a ship or two of yours in the MOC ship index. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 1, 2007 Governor Posted May 1, 2007 Errrr... What's a Rebel Blockade Runner got to do with this MOC? Quote
Fordo Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 This is the Rebel Blockade Runner http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=10019-1 since it has lots of those white half cylinder's its good for this light house. Quote
SkaForHire Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 This is the Rebel Blockade Runner http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=10019-1 since it has lots of those white half cylinder's its good for this light house. I was wondering where those white cylinders came from, the last time i was at pick a brick, they had a ton of the gray ones, but never seen white. This MOC is great, one of the best light houses I have seen. the colors are perfect, and it is a good size compared to the minifig scale and ship scale. Interesting how so many people are building port projects nowadays.... i guess we need something to raid with out pirates!!!! Quote
Capn Frank Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Wow *wub* Makes me want to make a lighthouse The only thing i question is the use of the Black Knight Shield. But it still looks great *y* P Quote
Shadows Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 A very nice lighthouse and harbor fortress! About the only thing that bothers me is the lack of windows in the tower. I realise that even adding one would be a fairly difficult undertaking involving large macaroni pieces and such, but it just seems like it needs it. If not, I'd actually shorten it by one section to make it less obvious. On a side note, it's always struck me that a Spanish influenced fortress needs at least one of these small towers that seem to appear so often in the real ones, and never in the LEGO ones ... It would look incredible on the opposite front corner of your structure (I don't know why the picture is called 'lighthouse' as it isn't one I don't think, but that's what reminded me of this idea). Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted May 2, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted May 2, 2007 Wow Captain! This is a very refreshing design. And even better, you plan to build an entire port. This looks great, almost perfect (but I would also remove the shield). What other buildings have you planned for the port? Quote
simonwillems Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 This is great! I like the way your creation can be looked at from all different directions (no open backside), the colourscheme looks perfect. I saw this one on brickshelf and was about to post it here as a brickshelf find. When I saw it I didn't had the time, but I'm glad to see you beat me to it :-D *y* Quote
Dreamweb Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Very clever usage of those small island baseplates! I like the way you made this "tunnel" above water with a bridge below it. The whole building looks just beautiful. Great work! I am a fan of lighthouses as well, too bad I haven't seen many Lego ones :) Quote
Capn Frank Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Capt. K, Would you be able to get a close up of them cannons? Then it can get added to the MOC Cannon Index *y* That's a nice looking cannon. :) P Quote
Captain K. Posted May 2, 2007 Author Posted May 2, 2007 Hello, I am pleased that the lighthouse is so interesting for you. Your answers are very helpful. I plan a jetty and stores in future. I will remove the knight shield. It somehow does not match. @phred I will make a couple of detail pictures of the cannons. Brickshelf when folder is public! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 2, 2007 Governor Posted May 2, 2007 This is the Rebel Blockade Runner http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=10019-1 since it has lots of those white half cylinder's its good for this light house. Ahhhhhhh! Now it all becomes clearn! I have some of those half cylinders which I thought would be good for building a lighthouse with someday. Captain. K has proved suspicions to be true! Quote
Athos Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Looks very good. I'm especially keen on the use of the two island plates. My only suggestion would be to widen each of the base structures (at the expense of the arch and make the arch yellow, so it matches the corners of the structures. I hope that makes sense. Did they have lighthouses in the Carribean? Steve Quote
Pirate Maniac Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Looks great! I have no problem with the shield and such, I love the arch idea and such, do you have any concepts for the other parts of the port to share with us Captain.K? Quote
Capn Frank Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 ...Did they have lighthouses in the Carribean? Steve Along the US coastline i'm really sure there was. Quote
MatthewUSA Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Captain K, your MOC is very, very awesome. I can definitly see this MOC as a Pirate set. I am a "Town" fan, but I was intrigued to check out your lighthouse. I can definitly see this lighthouse in a town setting. I give you and your MOC two *y* up. GREAT JOB!! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 3, 2007 Governor Posted May 3, 2007 I like the idea of this MOC being a set too, but the only problem is it looks too "piece intensive" for an official LEGO set. So maybe with some inventive piece reduction it could work quite well as a set. Quote
ZCerberus Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Did they have lighthouses in the Carribean? I wondered this myself... I mean they wouldn't use those giant electric bulbs or anything... they would have had to use an open flame or an encases flame... whatever, the MOPC is still cool! Another suggestion would be to move every other cylinder an eighth turn to the left or right so that the cylinders overlap and increase the strength of the tower! I might also add some sort of doorway on the upper platform level to enter the cylinder that leads up to the light tower's upper most section, but that is just me. Things I like about this MOC Originality, color coordination, use of some of the new colors, custom cannons, pretty good balance without being symmetrical, and some good ol' imperial guard fun! Keep MOCing captain! Quote
Landlubber Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 That's cool. I love it. Know where it would look good? Right here or joined onto the eventual island that I'm going to make this part of. Considering this is a pirate forum, would you be offended if I were to pirate some of your ideas for my eventual layout? I especially like the twin archways idea. Quote
Captain Roger Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 is a nice MOC...only i suggest you changing the false cannons for true cannons...i love the tower(i am talking about the first photo...the last photo is cool too but i think it should have a flag...well, i dn't want to be so harsh....is really cool, even withou flag) Quote
