Question about the 'dont go too wild with colours' comment. Is it ok to use colours so long as the bricks actually exist in those colours?

As I understand it, so long as you're using parts that actually exist in the specific colours, you should be good.

I think being "wild with the colours" was referring to using too many colours that don't exist for the parts you're using.

As far as "minifigs not being allowed" in the micro-build contest, what if we use a minifig as a ginormous statue? Not that I actually have... :look:

In other news, I've really got to install LDD again so I can take a look at some of these models.

Why can't everyone build with LDraw!:tongue:

Yes, you're right. :classic:

Well, that's not a problem. That's a technique that I've seen in the past too with micro creations :classic:

How you dare to not install LDD?

But, I think most people think LDraw is difficicult to use, but it only depens on the software you use. For example, MLcad is not very easy (but very powerful) and SR3D is quite easy to learn (but nobody dares to try it...).

How can I add my LDD file to the topic? There are only files with a size up to 100kb allowed, but the file is 127 kb large.

Thank you Calabar, I will register me and then it works.

EDIT: I registered in brickshelf. But until now, no email received regarding activation of the account. Normaly?

Can I add this scaled down 9398 rock crawler to my house?

Merged two .pov files so its actually there and done in one render, its not photoshopped.

Doesent quite look right go with white roses next to it.

I know I said I wasn't going to make a separate thread for my house, but I think I'm going to now. Hope that's ok!

You can view the thread right here!

No problem with that, it even says you can do that in the entries thread

Your link isn't working though

That's because I just published the thread. Check it now, it should be blue.

How does one download .lxf files from LEGO.com? It must be staring me in the face, but I don't see it.

Some of these entries are so fantastic I almost feel embarrassed working on something.

Hopefully I'll be able to get myself to start working on a free build though.

How does one download .lxf files from LEGO.com?

Right click, save as...

No, seriously: Are there any at all? I have never seen any downloadable LXF files on LEGO.com. Only the building instructions to craft your own LXF files and of course the LDD itself.

Can you provide any links to downloadable LXF files on LEGO.com?

EDIT: http://ldd.lego.com/en-us/gallery needs a working flash player plugin to download the LXF files posted there. But those files have GUIDs as file names, so it might be a good idea to rename them after download.

ANOTHER EDIT: If you miss the blue "Download" bar, but click on the image instead, you'll get a description of the model. In that view, however, there is no download link. Thus you have to click on the blue "back" bar in the top left corner of the image to get back to the overview. If you miss that tiny little bar, but rather click on the image instead, you'll get a pop-up with a bigger image, but still no download link. Regarding usability this gallery is surely not best practice: Flash-based, with tiny click areas not suitable for tablets anyway. Hello LEGO, ever heard of an iPad?

Do we need to provide a .ldr or .lxf for the rendering portion of the contest? Sorry if this has already been asked, I don't have time to check.

No.

i'm joining, too. going to do free build.

just a quick question, can we have moving parts?

What do you exactly mean by that? If you mean having some functions in your model: no problem at all, that's up to you :classic:

I sadly must say that I will most likely not be able to finish my entry, to much homework lately, so don't be surprised if I don't have something up.

With the six pictures rule, is it OK if we have more pictures in the separate topic for the entry? Thanks.

Yes, sure, no problem. The 6 images rule is only about the entry post (to keep the page from being cluttered with images). All other websites, topics, postings etc. you make regarding your model has nothing to do with the contest and is totally up to you :classic:

Btw, a bit off topic, but your "My brickset" link in your signature is not working except for you. Because it links to the profile page of the current logged in user on the pc, everyone just sees his own profile. You should search with your username in the search box (click members) and then copy-past the the link and make sure your profile name is in the link. You can also just change this link with your own Brickset username:

Just a note

Hi, I have two questions for the "Free-Build" category:

  1. Can one of the six images be an animated GIF of the house building itself, brick by brick?
  2. Can that animated GIF be made of photos of the model being built for real? Or should it be screenshots/renderings?

I should be building my house for real this coming weekend, is why #2 is even possible :)

Are the rules absolute for everyone or can some entries break some rules?

Well, this is a digital contest, so the images of your entry should be about the digital model, but including a picture of the real deal isn't a problem. :classic: (You can always link to more)

Technically speaking, a .gif is an image, so you may include a gif as one of the six images.

Well, rules are rules...

But, what rules are you talking about?

Well, rules are rules...

But, what rules are you talking about?

"One entry per member per class.", I noticed one entry had about 20 people that contributed to it.

Are you talking about the RCB render in the render category?

Well, maybe that's not very clear, but the render category is about the rendering and you can pick any model (as long as it fits in the topic) to render it. Of course you need permission from the author (if it's not your won model) and it may not be a model submitted in the contest by someone else.
