Ulrik Hansen Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I love the idea of a much expanded theme with space tech as the overall connection. I think TLG knows the historical importance of CS (figs, colors, elements) and how they had huge succes following the sci-fi hype generated by the first Star Wars movie that most toymakers tried to play along with. Quote
mrfuture Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I also have to agree on the must here about the CS. I was in my childhood when the Classic Spasce came out and when i went into Dark age I had a half a meter space ship in CSish style buildt. It still stands. After i seeing the Lego movie it have got the first update in years. And i have followed up with a new smaller ship. I realy hope there wil bee more Classic space sets beside Bennys ship, that i going to get. Some of my old Classic sets have been rebuildt. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I'd certainly love some more Classic Spacey goodness myself. Which Cuusoo set do you mean? This one? It's a nice design, but I miss the WOW factor. Benny's spaceship for example has more tubes and thingies that makes it a real spaceship... I haven't seen that model before (though it has plenty of WOW factor for me, even if just because it's, well, Classic Space), but I'm sure the CUUSOO set referred to is this one, the upcoming Exo Suit, for which the final design hasn't been revealed yet: Note the (mostly) Classic-style operator. While the final model will obviously differ from the one in the proposal, it's hoped it will retain some connection to Classic Space. Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I think the inclusion of the white Classic Space guy in the exosuit will be the most deciding factor for many when it comes down to whether or not to purchase this. Quote

It will be for me, certainly. Otherwise, it might as well be Galaxy Patrol or something... Quote
danth Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I'm predicting that Lego will do a Space or Sci Fi line soon, because Playmobil has a Future City line out now, and Lego and Playmobil always put out almost the same exact themes every year. Okay, it's a stretch but I'm willing to believe it. :D Quote

danth Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Classic Space City... I could get behind that idea! :) I'm cool with it as long as there are no flying cars. I got my fill of those in Space Police 3. And the Lego Movie. And the BttF Delorean. Quote
AlmightyArjen Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 A Classic Space city.. I like the idea! But not if TLG comes with Modular Buidlings in CS colours or something like that. Next to that: was Classic Space not already a bit like a city when you had a few bases? That was more like an industrial complex I guess. Living quarters in the form of domes and stuff would be nice... Quote
-Horizon- Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I would enjoy that so much! I missed every stinking space theme except Alien C and Galaxy Squad. Looking forward to the exo-suit and Benny's spaceship. Would love to have more. Quote
danth Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I wouldn't mind if the exosuit came with a printed space logo on one of the grey bricks. That would be killer. And a small trans green windscreen would make it extra classic-spacy. Most of the old grey craft had green canopies, right? Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Trans-yellow is the trans color I think most of us associate most closely with that original Space era (the one from which Benny hails). I think of trans green mainly as an accent color, on things like wingtip lights or details on pieces of equipment. Quote
Piranha Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I would be extremely pleased myself if that were to happen. But the thing that bothers me is that it took a movie and the directors using CS in a major way in the film, to have TLG decide to make a new CS set. I think if there was no TLM, there would be no Spaceship set. Not just CS but quite a few themes are like this, Forestmen, Adventurers, Monorail etc. TLG seems to prefer to have easter eggs rather than classic theme reintroductions. I hope Benny's ship sells far and away beyond expectations so TLG considers a new dedicated theme. Quote

I think if there was no TLM, there would be no Spaceship set. Yeah and even then, the classic space set comes out 4 months after the movie. When CS isn't ignored, it's actively sabotaged. I hope Benny's ship sells far and away beyond expectations so TLG considers a new dedicated theme. Me too! I'm willing to do my part as well. :D Quote

Yeah, I'd prefer if they were derived a bit more from the small one and two man ships from the '80s... or little mini monorails like the one that came with the Beta-1 Command Base. A Classic Space city.. I like the idea! But not if TLG comes with Modular Buidlings in CS colours or something like that. Next to that: was Classic Space not already a bit like a city when you had a few bases? That was more like an industrial complex I guess. I think of trans green mainly as an accent color, on things like wingtip lights or details on pieces of equipment. Trans-yellow is for blue ships and bases... whenever grey was the predominant colour, they used trans-green. I think trans-green would be more appropriate to the mech, unless they mixed in some blue bricks with it. Quote

For me it's not that the exosuit wouldn't be cool without the space guy. It's that NOT including the damn space guy for no good reason would piss me off. That would just be a big "eff you" to classic space fans. Kinda like Lego saying "Stop trying to make Classic Space happen again. It's not going to happen again." :p I mean there's no reason not to include it. It would be like not including Marty in the Delorean set. But I could see them doing it for some reason. Otherwise, it's just another mech. A nice one, to be sure, but let's be honest - would it have gotten 10,000 supporters if it was Exo Force, or Galaxy Squad? Quote
o0ger Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I don't think LEGO will revive Classic Space. It's just one of their lines from ages ago. Sure, it has a big nostalgic value for us AFOLs, but that's not LEGO's biggest customer-group. For every new line they create they interview kids and test a lot of different aspects. It's more science these days. They know what "kids want". LEGO "space" have almost been replaced totally by LEGO Star Wars. It's all kids want. That's what I think anyway. I'm not trying to be negative. It's just that I don't think we should have our hopes to high about this. ...also, astroid miner it'll have mechanical arms with claws and saws and 'geopenetrator probes'(shooter gimmicks) sure to please kids and afols alike Hey, I've built an asteroid miner! ( ) Maybe LEGO could just steal my design ;) Quote

BrickBuff Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Boy do I wish LEGO re-releases a classic space theme. I have some proposals on CUUSOO, see here: http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/61204 And here for higher res pictures, including of upcoming 924 Mk.II https://flic.kr/ps/2RzMiR Quote

I would buy that if Lego introduced it as part of a new Classic Space line... but I do have to say, I'm not a huge fan of the colour scheme. It's not that I'm one of those guys who thinks everything needs to be grey and blue - I quite like the later Classic Space schemes too. I like the white and grey here, but not so much the light translucent blue... I think if it matched the old Star Fleet Voyager a bit more I would absolutely love it! Something about the spoiler seems a bit off, as well... too ergonomic, maybe. :) Quote
bricklayer Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Dunno. Its possible. Maybe they are running out of ideas like hollywood.......rebooting all these old movies. Latest one....Ninja Turtles, releasing sometime this Summer.(north hemisphere summer) Quote
