Murdoch17 Posted April 1, 2015 Author Posted April 1, 2015 (edited) Johnny Thunder's office - version 2 This building was inspired by set Modular Building set numbers 10246: Detective Office, and 10190: Market Street. The first floor's look was totally taken from 10246, while the roof details are from 10190. The levels lift off like a modular but it lacks modular building pins, a base-plate and is not the proper size, being 18 studs square after all. Also, the year 1897 should be above the front door in printed black 1 x 1 tiles. Built as The Highlander Bar in 1897, it served root beer until Johnny Thunder bought it in 1918 after returning from serving in World War I. He then turned it into his personal office and living space. The back of the building features four windows, but no back door. The bottom floor holds the actual office with a desk + chairs, artifact display case and three large filing cabinets full of important contact information, treasure leads, and reports of strange occurrences, along with the occasional Vegemite Sand-which. The top floor is his living quarters, with a bed, table, stove, and telephone. The car sitting outside is Johnny's Treasure Raider and was built in 1924 to help keep Johnny mobile in high risk situations, such as being shot at by Lord Sam Sinister. in reality, the Treasure Raider is based off of set 7622, Race for the Stolen Treasure. (2008's Indiana Jones theme) This is a better version of the Treasure Raider that I made a couple months back. This vehicle features a spare tire, head & tail lights, plus a good old adventurer favorite: the classic two seat piece from way back in 1998 and last in 2013. Here is the LDD file for the car and building: http://www.mocpages....1427128673m.lxf Sinister Biplane Lord Sam Sinister bought this aircraft as military surplus from the British government after World War I. He had always wanted to fly during his service as a soldier, but the loss of his left hand in battle kept him out of the cockpit until after the war's end in 1918. Sinister modified the plane to suit his tastes to the point where it was unrecognizable as a former military aircraft. The supercharged engine was top of the line for 1921, and special hand... er, hook controls helped keep Sam flying. In reality, this plane is a modified version of set 4778, Desert Biplane ( link: http://www.bricklink...em.asp?S=4778-1 ) painted black and gray to match lord Sam Sinister's dark & evil personality. The plane originally featured a cargo compartment behind the pilot's seat, but I removed it to keep Bricklink costs lower. Murdoch17 Posted May 12, 2015 Author Posted May 12, 2015 1924 Adventurers Roadster Inspired by the Indiana Jones set 7628 (Peril in Peru), this car is owned by the Adventurers, specifically Jake Raines from Pharaohs Quest theme. It features a spare tire, two seats, and an enlarged engine. Here is the rear of the car. LDD file: http://www.mocpages.com/user_images/80135/1430314673m.lxf Johnny Thunder's Office (revisited version 1) Since the last time I uploaded Johnny Thunder's office, I did a Bricklink inventory of the parts list and found that the first model is way cheaper than the following versions I made. It may be not as fancy, but it get the job done and looks okay too. Also, I credit Eurobricks / Flickr user "Kristal" for the roof top decorations technique. (Here is a link to her blog: http://www.mocpages.com/user_images/80135/1430498488m.lxf ) The rear of the building is hinged to the front (like in set 31026, Bike Shop & Cafe) and locks together with a Technic pin. The inside features a new look: a stove borrowed from the Haunted House (set 10228) and a staircase with railings instead of a ladder. The cabinets have been moved upstairs, and the desk has been redesigned as well. This car is included in the LDD file. Murdoch17 Posted June 19, 2015 Author Posted June 19, 2015 (edited) Here are some more ADVENTURERS models I have created over the last month or so... 1924 Adventurers Roadster - Jake Raines This model was mostly inspired by set 7326, (Rise of the Sphinx) and my own imagination. This car is supposed to be owned by Adventurer Jake Raines, and features a spare tire, and two seat body. It may be a 1920's car, but I get a late 1930's feel from this model. LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1432816917m.lxf Adventurers - 1921 Classic Automobile - Senor Palomar This car is a extremely modified Duesenberg SSJ model made by Tom.Netherton. (see it here: https://www.flickr.c...in/photostream/ ) I removed a lot of features of this model to make it more unique. The vehicle is almost all white and light bluish gray, and features an enclosed cockpit that seats only one person. LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1432917835m.lxf Adventurers Boat Dock with vehicles This main part of this model was inspired by set 60068, Crooks Hideout (City - Swamp Police) along with the crane from set 7596, Trash Compacter (Toy Story 3), the seaplane modeled after set 7628 Peril in Peru, (Indiana Jones - Crystal Skull), along with inspiration from 2000 set 5935, Island Hopper (Adventurers - Dino Island) thrown in for good measure. Also, the Tramp Steamer is related to set 5975, T-Rex Transport (Adventurers - Dino Island) Here is the dock by itself. The looks tall because it has to clear the smokestack of the tramp steamer. Speaking of the crane: it needs this length of rope to connect to the claw part: http://www.bricklink...m.asp?P=x77ac50 Here is the inside of the shack. The upper floor of the building features the radio to communicate with the seaplane and the tramp steamer via this part: http://www.bricklink...asp?P=3004pb009 The lower floor features a map to plan the way to the next adventure, plus a bunch of cargo to go on the next ship to the mainland. This the inside of the crane, with two levers and a printed tile for controlling the lights. The tile is also supposed to turn on / off the power supply to the crane. I built the Morrow II (That's the ship's name) from two Adventurers sets: I used the boat from set 5975 (T-Rex Transport) and modified slightly to resemble set 5976 (River Expedition). The ship features a boiler, steering wheel, nautical telegraph and a bigger smoke-stack. I have also added a complete bridge with removable roof instead of the open topped one on my previous version of the ship. The bridge is also removable to access the boiler room. This is an seaplane based off 2008 Indiana Jones set 7628 (Peril In Peru), along with inspiration from 2000 Adventurers set 5935 (Island Hopper) thrown in for good measure. Murdoch17 Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 (edited) Here is my newest vessel for Lord Sam Sinister and the forces of evil: Fictional background: Built in 1919 by Fuller Co. Shipyards as the HMS Vladeck, this battle-cruiser was constructed as a gift for Lord Sam Sinister by the country of Ogel. It features four turrets, each with three barrels. The ship is powered by two turbines connected to steam engines fed by oil. The vessel also features twin smokestacks, two propellers, a command bridge and a meeting room with two map tables where Sam Sinister can plot in secret. The real story: In reality, I was so impressed with the size and shape of my tramp steamer model that I decided to test my ship-building skills with a battle-cruiser. I used the basic shape and hull of my other big military ship (the one that's scaled with my passenger liner) and added new turrets, removable decks, and a mini figure-compatible command bridge. I'll admit, I'm having problems with the turrets (something still seems off to me) but every brick has been checked and is build-able in real life. The vessel features two funnels and space in the lower level for the war room, complete with two map tables. The upper floor features the wheel and two nautical telegraphs, one for each engine. The flagpole on the rear should feature this plastic piece: http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=56410 (Also, the big empty space near the rear by the funnels is for figure storage. I'm using The Lone Ranger Calvary figures (classic smiley faces instead of peach heads) for troops, with the commander wearing the Captain J. Fuller uniform with this hat: http://www.bricklink...asp?P=11259pb01 .) Ship Name: HMS Vladeck Engine Type: steam-fed turbine to double screws Vehicle Configuration: battle cruiser Vehicle type: ocean going military vessel Designer: Baron Victor Fuller Build Date: 1919 Builder: Fuller Co. Shipyards Current Owner: Lord Sam Sinister Length: 96 studs Width: 12 studs Height: 20 bricks The turrets can swivel left to right and the gun barrels can elevate (slightly) LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1435515155m.lxf Edited June 28, 2015 by Murdoch17 Quote
Murdoch17 Posted July 2, 2015 Author Posted July 2, 2015 nice! Thanks! I have run into a snag with the battle cruiser HMS Vladeck,: I can't buy it until next month (August), as I over-spent on Lego in June and threw my entire July budget out of whack. Oh well, you live and you learn! By the way: Real world pictures of Sam Sinister's new car and the freighter Morrow II (I need a better name for my tramp steamer!) should be taken soon. I'm waiting on some car parts to ship, but they should be here in about a week. Quote
Murdoch17 Posted July 2, 2015 Author Posted July 2, 2015 Here are those Morrow II pictures I promised you guys: Here we see the Morrow II at sea.... actually, it's balanced on top of my railroad shed. (Close enough!) The top floor of the ship is the bridge - this area contains a nautical telegraph (to control speed) and the wheel. (to control direction) The lower floor features the boiler room. It is empty right now, but could be re-purposed into a captain's cabin. Here is Captain Karloff himself. Updated LDD file: http://www.mocpages.com/user_images/80135/1435860580m.lxf Quote
Murdoch17 Posted July 4, 2015 Author Posted July 4, 2015 This building was inspired by set Modular Building set numbers 10246: Detective Office, and was originally designed in March 2015. It was replaced by a revamped version of the first model, and now I have taken a long, hard look and decided it was too simplistic looking for my tastes... so I went back to my model lists and came back to this version of Johnny thunder's office you see now. Unlike most of my buildings, the levels of this building lift off like a modular, instead of swinging open like a dollhouse. The rear of the building lacks a back door. The bottom floor holds the actual office with a desk + chairs, an artifact display case and three large filing cabinets full of important contact information about previous adventurers, new friends and old enemies. The top floor is his living quarters, with a bed, table, stove, and telephone. This car is Johnny's Treasure Raider and was built in 1924 to help keep Johnny mobile in high risk situations, such as being shot at by Lord Sam Sinister. It is also included in the building's LDD file. LDD file: http://www.mocpages.com/user_images/80135/1435957394m.lxf Quote
Karateduo1 Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Really great stuff. I loved the adventurers theme enough to where I had all the Orient sets. This is a very good interpretation that adds a more realistic splash of color to the theme. I look forward to seeing more. Quote

Thanks for the comment, I was beginning to think no one was reading this thread at all! I had a couple Dino island sets, such as the T-Rex Transport (5975) and my dad had the Expedition Balloon (5956). I also and a bunch of the smaller Orient Expedition sets too... I later recieved Bi-Wing Baron for Christmas 2012, which is what jump-started all my thoughts on a revamped Johnny Thunder theme. I just had to wait until the money and LDD caught up with my ideas! Maybe since Johnny Thunder is in The LEGO Movie Super Secret Police drop-ship set we'll have a new theme and place to explore? I mean, they don't make the hat mold active again for no reason, right? I hope they do have some kind of reboot more like yours. I would think they would reuse the hat for more than just a one-time use, but I wouldn't put it past them. But I remember the small Orient expedition sets. Somehow I ended with 3 Jungle Rivers. Quote
Murdoch17 Posted July 8, 2015 Author Posted July 8, 2015 (edited) I hope they do have some kind of reboot more like yours. I would think they would reuse the hat for more than just a one-time use, but I wouldn't put it past them. But I remember the small Orient expedition sets. Somehow I ended with 3 Jungle Rivers. I had Jungle River too. I still have the green jacketed-Johnny somewhere. This model was inspired by the recent announcement of the Super Man "Action Comics Number 1" exclusive San Diego Comic Con 2015 LEGO set, which I then extended and improved into the model seen here. This version is the latest model I have constructed for Johnny Thunder's nemesis Lord Sam Sinister, and features two seats, steering wheel, and printed license plate which reads HC 514. (that print is not available in LDD, so I left it blank: http://www.bricklink....asp?P=3069bpa1 ) LDD file for the car: http://www.mocpages....1436387276m.lxf I have redone the tower and removed some of the windows, plus I recently turned the building from a hinge open type to a lift away design, much like the official LEGO modular buildings. Also, Sam Sinister's new car is in the garage. The first floor has the living / dining rooms, as the couch, stove and table and other associated items are there. The second floor features the master bedroom / writing room with a small balcony on the right hand side. The furniture on the upper floor features the bed, a desk, table with lamp, and two cabinets. Murdoch17 Posted August 11, 2015 Author Posted August 11, 2015 (edited) Update: The Sam Sinister Mansion model is now on order from about five sellers for about $280 US, with the furniture to be parted out & purchased soon. As for changes between this newest version and the older versions, I added a (heavily 10228-inspired) fireplace which was severely lacking from the original model. The LDD file has been updated accordingly. Building should commence within a week, maybe a week and a half. Edited August 11, 2015 by Murdoch17 Quote
Murdoch17 Posted August 23, 2015 Author Posted August 23, 2015 The latest Adventurers build is nearly complete! I purchased the Sinister family Mansion a while back, and as of today, it's still not done. The furniture isn't finished (it should be on Monday), and some parts are missing from the roof in the rear that won't be in for a week or more. Also, while building, I moved the garage backwards some for more stability when transporting. (it fell apart somewhat during construction) I also feel that it looks better that way, as it's doesn't looks like it was slapped onto the blueprints as much as it did before. Anyway, this is the tallest building I've built yet, but it is smaller height-wise than the Haunted House (set 10228) by just a few bricks... at least, that's what LDD says. Comments, complaints, and questions are always welcome! P.S. I will upload the finished model pictures when the furniture parts arrive on Monday! Quote
