Pat-Ard Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I would make the seats in a contrast color. Something light, like yellow or white. Hmmm, if you take two of those http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=32000 to add at the curved panels you could take standard studed plates... Spare tire sounds good! You know my U400 and U406, they both have curved fenders... That's up to you... Quote
unimog123 Posted March 6, 2014 Author Posted March 6, 2014 Ok, so I'll try making the seats in a contrast color right now. I think I know what you mean with the front panel, but adding another row of studded parts to the 5x11 panel will increase the width of the "hood" way to much. I will order some more tires as well as parts and motors for my upcoming projects as soon as possible. I don't think I will change the fenders because those axle connectors will look much smaller, I think, than what I have now. Plus I think my fenders capture the curve of the real ones pretty well, for just 4 liftarms. Also do you think it needs fenders on the rear too? Quote
Pat-Ard Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I think the contrast color will do a lot! Hm, I'll try to find a solution, may take some days... Upcoming projects sounds good ;-) No, I don't think you need rear fenders... Quote
unimog123 Posted March 6, 2014 Author Posted March 6, 2014 Well here's a start for the seats: It's not much of a change, but I love the contrast of blue, orange, and black. Let me know what you think about it. It's pretty funny how this is almost like a WIP for a seat! Quote
Pat-Ard Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 The seat looks great. They also should fit the unimog... What about a headrest? Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Very nice model! Thanks for sharing these beautiful pictures "step by step"! Quote
unimog123 Posted March 6, 2014 Author Posted March 6, 2014 Thanks guys! Unfortunately I can not make a headrest because the height of the seat as is, is in proportion to the roof. In other words, it would hit the roof with a headrest. Quote
Pat-Ard Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I just played a little with LDD... Maybe that's an idea... https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21147896/Kamaz_grill.lxf Pat Quote
unimog123 Posted March 6, 2014 Author Posted March 6, 2014 Hmm....very interesting. I think it could work with some touchups because I like the actual look, but the dimensions aren't perfect. Of course you don't know what the perfect dimensions are, but the grille sticks out too much. I think this can be fixed though. Hopefully I'll be able to start working on this later. I have one problem with making instructions, though. My LDD is the 4.3 version, so it needs to be updated for some of the newer parts in my Kamaz as well as my Trophy Truck which I would like to make instructions of. What version do you have? Do you know how I could update my version? Quote
unimog123 Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) Hey Pat-Ard, I've been working on the grill and I think I may have figured it out. It should fit all my required dimensions and attaching points. Edited March 7, 2014 by unimog123 Quote
Pat-Ard Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I'm happy that I cloud help. My version is 4.3, too. I think there's no newer version out. So you have to substitute the missing parts or leave them. Or you try using MLCad, maybe the parts are available there... Quote
unimog123 Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 Bad news I completely forgot about the bottom studded brick that connects the panel to the chassis attaching point. In other words if I used this: It would make the front very weak. Also I believe that it is virtually impossible to swap this for the 5x11 panel and still keep the grill and orange stripe connected in the same dimensions. Despite this bad news I have finished putting in the new seats: I have also made an attaching point for the cab and an exhaust pipe thing: Quote
Pat-Ard Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Hmm, it's hard to put something together without having the whole piece at hand... It just was an idea... The seats look great. Very nice truck! Quote
unimog123 Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 Well it was a great idea! I think I won't give it that spare tire because it just doesn't look right and if I make instructions people don't want to have to buy just one more tire if they already have the Unimog. Thanks for the kind comments and I will just do some finishing touches to the truck and then make a video as soon as the cold weather permits. Quote
unimog123 Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 Alright guys, I am pretty much done with my Kamaz. Hopefully I will get the chance to film it, if the weather permits as well as take pics for my website. So stay tuned! Quote
MrNumbskull13 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I am actually quite excited for this... xD Quote
unimog123 Posted March 16, 2014 Author Posted March 16, 2014 Well, today I have posted my Kamaz on my website. I'm still working on the video, unfortunately it's too cold today and I think I have to maybe swap out XL motors since the one I've been running seems to be a bit weak. (even when the rechargeable battery is fully charged) Quote
