LegoMathijs Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 The Futuron Explorer is a modular space ship. I've made this ship in the Futuron (Lego Space theme) colour sceme. Each part of the ship can be disconnected from each other. So it's possible to make three space ships, each his own functionality. The ship is suited with a lot of features: - Three cockpits (Each of them can operate as a space ship) - A crane to pick up containers - mini sattelite (which can be disconnected from the ship) - guns to protect the ship and the other bases and vehicles - A speeder who's connected at the backside of the ship. It can be used for discover places what isn't reachable for the space ship - Two ground vehicles for mining Crane and sattelite: All components of the space ship: Some possible combinations: More pictures at: https://www.flickr.c...57634679349007/ Quote
Artanis I Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Really good, well done. Fits the Futuron theme very well. The modular aspect is excellent. Futuron never had a capital ship, probably due to the monorail. I think I might have a crack at making one some time. (Not likely to be this year though...) Quote
WaysofSorting Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Nice. The tail-fin buttresses (That's all I can think to call them) give them a gothic, almost Sandlin-like 3vil quality. Gives it a bit of edge. Also really reminds me of a great old PC Game, Star Control II, where your capitol/colony ship was essentially this modular frame you kept adding pods too. (Well, at least in my foggy memory, that's what I did). I had wished Galaxy Squad would have been more like this - allowing the teams to plug into each other, Voltron style. Maybe it was? I didn't get enough of the sets to ultimately find out with sets in hand. Maybe LEGO will drop "conflict" as theme and go back to "modular" as theme for a new space collection. Quote
SirBlake Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 This is really cool. Futuron and Blacktron were always my favorites when I was a kid because of that modular build style. Nice work! Quote
LegoMathijs Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 Thans for the compliments:) @WaysofSorting: it's possible to make Galaxy Squad modulair. Build your own vehicles in the colour sceme, and make moduls that can connected wit other vehicles:) That would Ben a great expansion of Galaxy Squad. And most of my space vehicles (for layout) are modular. You can connect the parts to other vehicles. I post it here soon. Quote
Only Sinner Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Brilliant modular spaceship design, and I like the colors too! Quote
DPrime Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I like this a lot. You've captured a sense of "real" Lego design/aesthetic, too, which I appreciate. When everyone else seems to be doing their utmost to give their builds as much SNOT as possible, this stands out like a breath of fresh air! It really looks like it'd be at home among the Classic Space and Futuron designs. Well done! Quote
LegoMathijs Posted March 15, 2014 Author Posted March 15, 2014 Thanks for the nice compliments:) Modularity give something extra to a sci-fi vehicle in my opinion:) Quote
jonwil Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Very nice ship, makes me think a lot of the Deep Freeze Defender Ice Planet set. Quote
frumpy Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 That's fantastic. I love the fact that it supports different combinations. As a kid I had mainly futuron space LEGO (even had the train) so I have a soft spot for these type of builds. Quote
LegoMathijs Posted March 15, 2014 Author Posted March 15, 2014 Thanks:-) Soon I'm going make another spaceship that can be combined with this ship. Very nice ship, makes me think a lot of the Deep Freeze Defender Ice Planet set. When I was making this MOC, I Thought the same, the Deep Freeze Defender has also detachable cabins, but isn't much modular as this spaceship Quote
bricklayer Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I like this a lot. You've captured a sense of "real" Lego design/aesthetic, too, which I appreciate. It really looks like it'd be at home among the Classic Space and Futuron designs. Well done! 2nd that, not that I even know how to SNOT yet Quote
The Architect Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Very good job I like how it splits into smaller ships. Quote
arc Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 awesome MOC! I have to say i really like the modular build on this ship. its something i wish lego would still do. Quote
LegoMathijs Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 Thanks:) Sometimes LEGO does make mudular elements in their (Space) sets, but I like to make Space MOCs more modular:) Quote
Doom2099 Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Looks great! I really like the options for putting everything back together in different styles. It also makes it a nice rival for the Blacktron flagship. Well done! Quote
LegoMathijs Posted May 12, 2014 Author Posted May 12, 2014 I'm currently building a Space layout. This space ship is an important part of it :) I'm going creating more space ships which can be combined with this one. I'll show you asap. Quote
Lady K Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Totally awesome! I agree with everyone else on modular sets. I love what you've done. The combinations are great as is the main overall design. Can't wait to see the space layout you're working one! Quote
LegoMathijs Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 Thanks! About a few months the layout is ready for shwing at events. I'll post It als on Eurobricks. I've made more modular vehicles which can be combined together. I've als added Technic functions in my layout. Quote
Csacsa234 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 That is genius, you captured the Futuron style perfectly and integrated new elements. And the modularity offers really much combination and fun , nice work there Quote
