wesker Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Im probably in the minority that prefers the Jawas without the capes. They look more film accurate that way. Quote
TheBear Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 If you are going to give the Jawas capes then it is only fair that Uncle Owen should get one too Quote
Alldarker Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 (edited) Thanks for the comparisons again, Lego-Freak. I actually don't really miss the capes on the Jawa's that much either. Like Wesker mentions above, in the movie, theJawa's don't wear capes either, but loose fitting robes. Actually, Uncle Owen also wore a loose fitting tan-coloured robe; on him too a cape would not be accurate. I'm not even sure which style eyes I prefer: the older smaller eyes, or the new large eyes. I'm also not too sure if I prefer the newer GONK droid to the 10144 version. The Treadwell droid and the newer R1-G4 seem to be pretty big improvements on their older counterparts, though. Same goes for Owen Lars: looks more like the movie character. Edited May 9, 2014 by Alldarker Quote

lowlead Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Could someone give me an honest opinion on weather this set is worth the price or not? Best brown box...EVAR! Granted, I cashed in $70 in VIP points which brought the price down to ~$240.00, but I still would have paid full price for this set without hesitation. The technic solution for the wheel tread structure significantly reduced the bulk of the brick-built version, and some very innovative building techniques made the angles of the side panels possible - pretty amazing stuff from the designer, in my opinion. The studs-on-side method gives the model texture which enhances the look, I believe. The original version almost looks too smooth and shiny - and the inclusion of scattered, multi-colored bricks didn't really mask this trait. Lego-Freak: Yes, thank you very much for the comparison pics! After seeing the two side-by-side, I'm really glad I skipped the first incarnation - it's quite ugly! The 75059 nicely captures the angles and overall look of the ILM model - a vast improvement all around, and definitely worth the wait. 9 out of 10 Quote

I think I'll take a trip down to the LEGO store tomorrow and make up my mind then. Quote
Robert_88 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Don't get me wrong. I love the SC but I think it looks like a 250 $ set. Quote
Farmer Harv Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 As far as relative pricing goes, the SC at $350cdn is worth far more than the SSD at $500cdn. IMO the Super Star Destroyer is crazy overpriced for what you actually get the end, whereas the Sandcrawler at least has some play elements for less money and a higher piece count. At full price I'd buy the SC again, but no way would I consider another SSD. Quote
BJM Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Just sweep the half-finished build off the table when you ravish her on top of it and then she'll have to come back again to help you put it back together... Please do not sweep the lego off the table - it will fall on the floor and could be lost. The thought of you doing so upsets my OCD a great deal Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Just finished building the Sandcrawler today!! What a joy to behold, and definitely worth the price. Still wish it would have come with an Aunt Beru minifigure, though... Quote

A few black skeletons and some fire pieces would have added playability and been a cheap way to include Aunt Beru. Edited May 12, 2014 by TeufelHund Quote
darththeling Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Bizarre that uncle Owen would be smiling... I don't mind the chiseled cheek bones on Luke that everyone is complaining about, but the smiling, happy-go-lucky uncle Owen makes no sense. He was gruff and irritable in every scene in A New Hope. It's a theme common among all of the licensed figures maybe. I recall thinking the same thing when I got Marvel's Natasha Romanoff for the first time, wondering why a savvy, no nonsense spy would be printed with a stupid goofy grin. Anyway, this set is a must buy for sure. Will have to sell some droids for scrap, first. Quote
Only Sinner Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 This thing is amazing! I'm still going to have to wait for a sale, though. Quote
JRBricks Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Has anyone tried modifying their Sandcrawler with power functions?? I'd really like to make it motorized when I pick one up. Just curious if anyone is thinking the same (seems like there would be enough room inside to add the PF components)??? Quote
rollermonkey Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 I'm sure that you could easily send power to the front treads for propulsion, and separately power the steering in the back. The question is how unobtrusively those could be incorporated, while losing as little playability of the interior as possible. Quote
kr-lik Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Got mine the other day. so far about 4,5h of assembly and it's still not finished... had to divide it to couple of days because I wouldn't sleep lol. so far the most annoying were the treads but the rest is quite an interesting build... Quote
Mr Bigmouth Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 I'm now into my second week of building this set (little and not often) and I'm really enjoying it. I found building the track assemblies pretty boring but overall the build is great. Quote
BrickieB Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 I WOULD pay EUR 220 for this (about USD 300) But I WON'T pay EUR 330 for this (about USD 450) - what it costs here. It's been said a million times before but... C'mon LEGO, lower your prices! Quote
MightyMegs Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Artoo popped out his boosters to help with my Sandcrawler build... 'ARTOO... get me down from here!' Quote
Ckubrick2 Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 (edited) @Fritzy: The interior of the new one is superior I think since it uses the whole given space, whereas the old version has a detachable mid-section that reduces the size of its interior quite significantly There's only one part of the old Sandcrawler's interior that's really accessible, and that's the front where the crane platform is stored. The new one allows access to the entire interior which includes room for the speeder, three crates that can be inserted via the tan "doors" at each side, a retractable ladder and two cranes I digress, the old one has a whole first floor, that spans from the ramp all the way to the steering mechanism, and then it has a midsection, which is like a second-floor. The first floor, meaning that whole area underneath the midsection, holds full-scale mini figures, and resembles the room in the movie were the droids reunited, low ceiling, dark, etc.... The new one only has the main floor. The old one also has that small entrance near the ramp. And the middle hole actually leads to the workshop in the old one, where you can put jawas looking outside, on the new one you can only throw crates through it (bizarre). Its crazy how the old one is close in size, and probaby simmilar or more spacious interior than the new one with way less pieces. Also the old one has a top nothch steering mechanisim that takes less space taht the new one. Edited May 25, 2014 by Ckubrick2 Quote
ZO6 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 After having this set built for a few weeks now, I've got some more thoughts about it. Overall I still really love this set. It looks great on display, and there are tons of things to play around with too. I do have some new issues/complaints though. 1. The two side panels towards the front of the vehicle (the ones with the tan handle/clamp part) no longer stay open all the way on their own. They droop down so that they're only about 1/3 of the way open. The panels along the side at the back can of course be opened all the way, but the two near the front rely on friction to stay up. I imagine I could replace the friction pins with some new ones, but it'd be a nuisance to have to do this every couple weeks. Anyone else having this problem? 2. I wish there was an easy way to remove/replace the crane from the interior of the Sandcrawler. I don't have the biggest hands in the world, but I'm often finding that even with all the side panels open and the roof removed that I still have trouble fitting my hand in the vehicle sometimes. The crane sticks out so far that even by sliding it all the way to one side or the other it's still obtrusive. 3. The control room up at the front/top of the Sandcrawler is a huge improvement over the old one, but it still seems cramped. The floor of the control room has a massive gap all along its perimeter, so it could be increased in size by a stud or two in every direction. I have one final observation. I've noticed in a lot of pictures and videos that people have a massive gap around the front ramp when its raised. When you crank the knob in one direction to raise the ramp, the chain will slip when it's just about all the way up (this can still be corrected by turning the knob more to pull up this new bit of slack). However, by turning the knob in the other direction to raise the ramp, the chain doesn't slip and the ramp will raise up perfectly and not leave any gaps. Quote
kr-lik Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 btw is it me, or do the dark olive-like colored bricks tend to have a bit different tones to them ? Quote

Mr Bigmouth Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Completed mine last Saturday and mine's the same on one side. I only intended to use it as a display piece (I'm an AFOL) so it isn't a big issue for me but my nephew may find it annoying. Quote
