The blue cargo train uses those doors. I guess it is not too hard to MOD some doors on the ends of the passenger train. There are already windows there. You could make them similiar to the Horizon Express doors.

The 60051: High-Speed Passenger Train doesn't appear to have a distinct replica, however it is based on a very modern, high-speed train, trains which are more current and are being developed now.The only other train that LEGO has created that is similar to this new 60051 train is a train they release in 2006 called 7897, which had many flaws. When I bought it, I was extremely disappointed. So to have this new train is a relief, I love these styles of trains so I'm excited to finally get a high-speed train with a front moulded nose that fits perfectly flush. It feels like LEGO is repaying all those who bought 7897 and were disappointed. LEGO has also been doing large custom moulds for decades. But LEGO will release more trains and styles in the future, so no need to worry c:

Well said Cpt...well said! Yes, I know it's a one piece nose, but it looks good flying around a loop.

Makes me wonder why the designer can't just continue to use...

The roof design of the 60051 makes that impossible

8 white 4181/2 in decent condition will be quite expensive. This would have been a nice opportunity for TLG to put those back into production (whites ones, that is)

The recent red 7938: Passenger Train is styled under a German train called Talent and is not considered to be high-speed passenger train, that is why it managed to be brick built and thus under the piece count. The 10233: Horizon Express is a high-speed passenger train based on the French TGV 001, however it is a more solid shaped design rather than a streamlined design and is also under the expert line, giving it far more pieces to create it's front façade. No, 2006 is very far away. TLG do not think their customers buy LEGO for that amount of years. If they did, we wouldn't get the same firestation whatever every second year

This is simply designer laziness or maybe there's a Playmobil train that looks exactly like this that sells pretty good

Anyway, that Duplo nose is everything that LEGO is not, sigh

Does the new passenger train have lights in the power car? From these videos it doesn't appear to be any...If anyone that has purchased it could tell me that would be nice :) Thanks in advance

:oh: are Lego now including third-party parts? I certainly won't be buying any more if that's the case.

That nose style isn't new - the last passenger train (7897-1) from 2006 was the same. Easily the worst part of the set.

Unfortunately it doesn't have lights at the front, however I am sure it wouldn't be hard to put lights in it, that is something I would consider too! c: I am so, so happy though about this new passenger train. The nose piece is one of my favourite LEGO pieces and it fits perfectly, no gaps. It also looks incredibly modern on the track, stunning work from LEGO.

Also, to me this new mould is LEGO. As I grew up with these types of moulds in many LEGO sets. 7897 was my third LEGO train and it was incredible as a young teen finding a LEGO, sleek train. Duplo is heavily junourised and oversized, this piece isn't. It's sleek and aerodynamic. So many sets have single moulds for various reasons, so it's not doubt why LEGO wouldn't do one for a train. LEGO normally makes these moulds because of the detail they're dealing with. Hence why plans, helicopters, previous trains like 4511 and 7897 have had large pieces. Even pirate ships, boats and other LEGO sets have had large pieces. LEGO will release more trains in the future, which I'm sure you will be ecstatic over because it suits 'your' train. However to the people who love this train and this style, we're rejoicing and are thoroughly excited. If you don't like it don't buy it.

Personally I am sending back all my boat hulls, all large cockpits and windscreens, and most definitely the large transparent-blue panels from the space monorail. I am disappointed to learn that they are not real Lego. In fact, I feel like the emotional heart of my hobby has been ripped out.

Most of all the wheels. The wheels are not brick built, especially the large technic wheels. I feel cheated.

I'll take them if you don't want them. I'm ok with "non-LEGO".:wink:

I'll take your monorail track, it's obviously too big to be actual Lego.

I don't mind large moulded pieces as long as there was no alternative brick-built method. Thing is, I've seen some excellent ICE-style engine fronts that are brick built.

Exactly. And these brick-built monorails prove it http://railbricks.co...monorailbricks/

So that means you have to send your monorail track to me, right? To be clear, I won't use it, as it's Not Real Lego, and I am a Very Serious AFOL. But my kids won't mind playing with it, they have this weird view that Lego is just a toy.

Ummmmm..... Lego is a toy, doesn't matter of you are young or old, it is a toy

That aside, I myself do disparage the continual onslaught of pieces that could have been done by brick. We have hollow buildings using large flat panels where bricks would work, cargo containers made from 10 large pieces where bricks would work.

Most of us here are serious/semi-serious about building stuff and is disappointing when we get more special mini fig molds or giant molded parts where actual bricks that already exist could be used instead and could be use in other builds as well.(some of the pieces are awesome, I won't lie)

I do find it kind of sad, because I think it takes away some of the magic that is "Lego".

I also hate the fact that while I do overall like the new train sets, I will not be buying them until I see a serious discount on them and large pre-molded parts are part of my decision. I would rather my son build(with me or by himself), rather than plop on a nosecone. We did the entire TGV together, whether it was made for adult fans or not.

I think the problem is, they could have designed it in such a way that it was more than one bit, that could be taken apart and possibly used for something else. No matter what you do, that piece will never look like anything other than the front of a train, which is kinda against the point of Lego. That said, if you don't mind it that, buy it, if you do mind that, don't buy it, it's very simple. It's not like there aren't a local passenger train and a high speed passenger train still available.

Personally, I'm not a fan, not just the nose, but the whole train looks a little plain and uninspiring. Add to that the fact I just bought a full, powered, Horizon Express (TGV) and my not very big railway doesn't really need it. Should I find the space to make my railway bigger (it's currently taking up all of a large dining table) I'd like to get the new freight set though.

Yeah, it will certainly be interesting to see what LEGO does in the future. I would be surprised actually if they released another single mould at some stage. I would love for LEGO to make an amazing station one day, that would be wonderful!

I for one actually quite like the nose as it has a nice sleek modern look to it, I can't fathom the logic of some people regarding brick built solutions in all honesty they are generally far more heavier and parts intensive compared to moulded nose pieces. The brick built solutions also cannot give us the smooth and graceful lines that a specially moulded part gives, they instead look chunky and are normally full of awful gaps that detract from the level of realism that they are supposed attain. I will definitely be purchasing a copy of the High Speed Passenger Train and using it as the basis for a more highly detailed model, the only negative I can say about this set is the centre coach is too short, but that doesn't matter as I have already purchased some Dark Bley 6 x 28 Train Bases to make new coaches.

Well there is certainly prescient for specialized nose cones 10 and 20 years ago...

4511-1.gif 4558-1.jpg

... all of the pros and cons have been reiterated. They make it look more train-like than could be done with regular bricks and does so for a lot less weight than any brick built solution would be. On the other hand, it is taking a step away from the historical "only rectangular bricks" that persisted to the early 1980's and is moving towards a single model set. It is the constant struggle, is lego a model that you happen to construct or is it a construction set that you happen to build models with? Right now the corporate answer is "whichever sells the best." For us there is no wrong answer (well, maybe "megabloks" but short of that...). So if you do not like the new passenger train take the "model" and turn it into a beautiful construction- how do you do a brick built nose that works so perfectly? Or maybe just borrow and repaint the brick built nose from one of the other passenger trains. Or ignore the sets altogether and build the trains of your dreams. I'm just glad they are still producing train parts.

I for one am looking forward to the imminent collapse in the price of used Metroliners once Serious Lego Collectors realise that the nose parts are Not Real Lego.

It's not just rectangular bricks.. the "creator" sets show how well you can build trains without looking too blocky, but still looking excellent.

LEGO, the fundamental idea, is that you can build other things, even if they give you the bricks to build a particular set.

Right now it seems like only the creator sets still follow the philosophy.

I am not sure if I like the nose or not I can see both sides but I don't like that fact that because the front wheels are more set back the front comes away from the track more on corners, I run my track close to walls other track and lego building and I think it would keep hitting thing, I don't have any problem with the red train as it stays close to the track.

That is very true. I think it speaks volumes about the direction that this company has taken when, due to the expectations of different audiences, they need a separate theme solely for products that focus on the construction of a model. Creator is surely the most important product line they offer, and the pricing model brings to light just how much profit just be made from other lines.

With regards to the train's nose cone, I personally think it's suitable for a City model. Let's not forget the all passenger/cargo planes in City also have large moulded cones, and of course the wings to match! They're not pretty to look at from a system-wide perspective, but the target audience (young children, small hands) only cares about the playability. And if the pieces then make the models easier to reconstruct, then that's a good thing.
