Looking at some clearer photos in the summer catalogue this morning I was a little disappointed to see the cattle wagon is nothing more than a flat truck with a garden fence type structure around it. The cow (Which is brown.) simply stands in the middle of this white fenced space. I was expecting something a bit more realistic such as a box car with a slit around the sides for air circulate. The large cables look good on the wagon though so that is something as well as the diesel looking pretty good, although I did not give it that much attention as I was really looking at the rolling stock. The inclusion of the level crossing is a bonus though I am not sure what that little green truck with a grey container on the back is all about. It does not seem to fit in the theme to me and seems a bit random. Perhaps they just put it in so there was something to wait at the level crossing?

The white high speed train looks a lot better than in those first images. The nose looks rather good I think, OK so it is all one bit but it is a good shape and from what I could tell from the photos at a quick glance it seemed pretty flush. Also it does look as though extra carriages will be reasonably easy to build from bricklink orders.

I think the station is the strangest of the sets. We were looking at it in the shop and even in a good photo seen in the catalogue leaves many questions unanserwed. I spoke to the boss who had been to the toy fare and admitted to having seen the real thing. He could not really account for it though and was himself rather perplexed at the strange canopy that appears to be a roof on the station, it just looks weird and is apparently no better on the real thing?

Very disappointing to hear about the cattle wagon as that was the one I was most looking forward to... Oh well, thankfully we can build our own!

All these impressions are just making me more excited to see the real sets! I enjoyed the 2010 sets, but it sounds like the new passenger train may be a winner. I may also have to finally hop on the freight bandwagon, as the small picture I've seen of the blue engine really looks simple yet satisfying. Should be a good year for train builders!

I think both trains are a too basic, clearly geared towards 'kids'.However I know as soon as i see these trains on the shelf i will buy them.( and probably be disappointed) but at least i will have more trains.

I hope we get some adult trains like the Horizon,Emerald or Maersk. wishful thinking? :cry_sad:

That link doesn't work for me, does anyone have a different one?

Here! :sweet:

The Train Station itself is a lot like the 2010 one... While I think it's better than that one, I still think the 2007 one is the best Train Station set from City.

Are the things hanging from the roof on top of the minifigs panels with signs about incoming trains? I.e. which train is arriving to the current platform. Or are they oversized lights? the picture is a bit fuzzy..

I'm really liking the new station for some reason. It's nice how Lego went with the walkover type last time, and now return to a regular single platform similar to 7822 and 7824. This has a small and comfortable vibe to it. And while the grey roof may not be that useful for stopping rain, it does bulk out the look a bit, and I think it will look good in a train city.

The new nose piece is nice but very.... er.... playmobil-ish... Sleek but not what I would define as system.

Looks like my wallet won't be crying for this year's trains. With my custom CSX trains and swing over to PF, I think I have my hands full anyway. :P

The new picture of the passenger train does make it more appealing than the first one i saw. It feels quite complete with the level crossing

included. It also looks like it will be easily modded to form a larger train set with 4 carriages and 2 engines. This would result in those nose

pieces flooding bricklink.

The train station on the other hand is not very appealing to me, and I like the old 7937 much better.

I like these updated pictures that come pooring in through this topic, and I can hardly wait to see official pictures that show the full set more clearly.

That's just it. It's not that it looks bad but huge chunks like that is just not what Lego is about.

Like 7897 it's got a platform almost half the length of a single carriage. But it's good to see you get 8 straight track pieces instead of those flex things.

I don't know about the rest of you, but trains with noses like this new one don't look right finishing with just a carriage at the end. Is this just a ploy to make you buy two sets, like HE, or am I being too cynical this morning....?

^ The new Passenger Train has two engines on each end and a carriage in the middle, in the new picture the nose piece is just cut off by the power functions tab. Also in the toy fair image you can see the last engine on the back as well, It's not like HE it's like 7897 or the previous red Passenger Train. I just searched playmobil and I don't get the reference, though I never knew what playmobil was until people started mentioning it. Personally if helicopters and planes can have custom noses then trains can too, to achieve the sleep elegant design they intend. I can't wait to buy multiples of the Passenger Train! :)
