Endgame Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 The remaining bugs were beyond hysterical. <You don't get it, man! Kos may still be alive, and the dude ate our last leader! Didn't even chew! If there is even the slightest chance he is still breathing, we have to obey his orders to the letter!> <It's all because of Frostbarb... He betrayed Kos, and then he decided to take matters into his own hands! It's all Kos' fault... If Frostbarb hadn't attempted to take over the pantry, we ants would've never accidentally exposed oursleves to humans, trying to relcaim it and all. You heroes would've never been hired, and Kos would lie in wait, waiting for this damn snowstorm to deliver a buffet right into his territory! He was going to eat every hoveller that walked into this place, if Frostbarb hadn't forced us to reveal ourselves to humans! He's a sociopath! Can't you see now? Can't you see why we're so afraid?!> Round Five Of The Final Battle! >Hoang uses a potion on himself (back) >Darksten VS Chilly Ant A (back): Miss >Crowley VS Chilly Ant B (back): Shield: Miracle (2+3=5 HP restored to all!) >Hardy Ant B VS Hoang (back): 5/2=3-3=0 damage The battle is down to the wire! Endgame Posted May 12, 2014 Author Posted May 12, 2014 Round Six Of The Final Battle! >Crowley VS Kos Web (back): Hit (Web destroyed!) >Darksten VS Chilly Ant A (back): Hit (3+3=6 damage) >Hoang Anh VS Chilly Ant B (front): Critical Hit (4x2=8+2=10 damage) The ants make a futile last stand, but are all eventually stamped out. The giant insects, fearing punishment from their currently knocked out master, swarm the heroes. One by one, one gallant attack after another, they are all slashed. Two ants are destroyed initially. Darksten fires a fatal arrow through one, and Hoang bisects another. The poison coursing through another ant's feeble veins makes it succumb, the vermin dying a slow death. As the heroes watch the final insect in the shelter wither to nothing, they know that the battle had been won, once and for all. "...I think we did it. Those poor people will be able to hide from this hellish storm..." The Battle Is Victorious! All Heroes gain the proper amount of EXP. Comrade Commander Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 (edited) Darksten watches as the knight sorts the loot and shakes his head at the final distribution... "This knight will never learn" But rather than redistribute, Darksten simply pockets the small items he had been given. As he does, he hears KOS's last words and watches the giant spider pass away. He had had enough of giants bugs for a while. once the creature is dead, Darksten takes his utility knife and cuts one of his front fangs off. Putting it carefully in his pack. Endgame Posted May 12, 2014 Author Posted May 12, 2014 Darksten steps over to the writhing Kos, pulling out his utility knife. <N-nooooouuuurgghhh... Don't... do it... P-please... N-no more s-shame... I am... too m-mighty... to have a b-buriallllrggh... L-like this...> Darksten doesn't listen to the spider's mad pleas, and hacks off one of his fangs. He takes off the appendage, the dismemberment and humiliation proving too much for Kos's wounded body and pride. He collapses to the floor as his eyes stare out vacantly, dead at long last. Endgame Posted May 12, 2014 Author Posted May 12, 2014 The party trudges up the stairs, navigating out of the bloodied basment. They stomp their feet on the carpet in the foyer as they walk out. Some snow flakes graze their cheeks, their faces and hands going red from the cold. Crowley looks snug in his attire. The party reutrns to the hovellers, and finds another person waiting for them... "Antony!?" The green clad man chuckles. "Well, look who decided to show up! You're safe and sound, right?" "Yeah, but what are you doing here, brother?" "I heard from the boss that you were here, Crowley. I wanted to make sure your first assignment went well, and that you didn't dig yourself too deep of a grave." "...Thanks, Antony. Thanks a ton." While the two siblings chat, the three hovellers approach ther heroes. "Well... you somehow managed to preserve the food, so you each get a Soma. I've been holding onto them since I got evicted, but I think you're a better holder." Soma (Causes the blessed-effect, allowing the target to recover 3 health at the end of each round for the duration of one battle.) "You exterminated all of the icky bugs, heroes! Thank you very, very much! Hear - I don't need these blankets anymore now that the icky little bugs are gone, so you can have these. One for each of you!" Safety Blanket: Backwear, suitable for anyone. SP: 1, the comforting texture protects from the Afraid effect. "I said no snow on the ground. And look what's on the ground! Snow! So you get nothing from me." "Thanks for bringing my brother back safely, heroes. I know its kinda meager, but... We Syndicate folk aren't paid much. Here, have 10 gold each." Isaac skulks out from behind the corner to see all the commotion, noticing the heroes in the process. "...You made it out? Welll, wow, I'm surpri- I mean, ahem! The hovels give you our deepest thanks, heroes. As a collective token of our appreication, here: have 65 gold, each." Comrade Commander Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 As Darksten steps out into the cold air, he feels the brisk breeze as it blows away some of the local stench. The motely crew standing before him did not impress him much, especially now that the white cleric had told him their true story, Yet the young child still had his sympathy, She was too young to be suffering from her parent's mistakes "I heard from the boss that you were here, Crowley. I wanted to make sure your first assignment went well, and that you didn't dig yourself too deep of a grave." <snip> "Good working with you two. Maybe we'll bump into each other on the streets, eh? Battling the Wolfgang and all that. Either way, I'll see you folks around." Darksten turns to the cleric upon hearing this and chuckles: "Your first assignment huh? I knew there was too much research going into this for it to be a spur of the moment decision on your part. You fought well today. I would gladl fight along side you again. Come find me in Heroica Hall if you ever want to team up again" "You exterminated all of the icky bugs, heroes! Thank you very, very much! Hear - I don't need these blankets anymore now that the icky little bugs are gone, so you can have these. One for each of you!" As Darksten receives his blanket from the young child, he cannot help but feel bad for the young girl. Her experiences in life so far were so undeserved, yet she had an innocence that was in stark contrast to what he had just done "Thank you dear. I know this will keep me safe and warm on many future nights." Darksten reaches into his pack and pulls out some folded papers, and the pair of borrowed dice "I should give these back to you as well, they helped me a lot, but, I think you have more use for them now. It certainly looked like a fun game though, so if you ever want to play, let me know." "I said no snow on the ground. And look what's on the ground! Snow! So you get nothing from me." As the man's words cross his lips, Darksten straightens up and looks him in the eyes "I would expect nothing less from you. When your daughter is warm inside tonight, remember who protected that shelter. When your wife can eat food tomorrow, remember who provided it to her. It certainly was not you, and unless you change your ways, you will remain unfit to be the head of this household." With that Darksten bids his fairwell from the group and makes his way back to the main part of town. But as he crosses out of the walled section, he stops to speak to the member of the Town Watch on patrol "I think perhaps you should let someone know that greater security is needed at the ports. More customs agents should be screening the cargo before it arrives so that we can avoid issues like this" Darksten says as he shows the fang with Kos's blood dried to it "If the owner of this can get in, who knows what other monsters, diseases, and crimes can slip through" QM Note: Thanks for playing, 97ers! You're free to return to the hall now. If you can, please leave any comments and criticisms in the QM Lounge. Thanks! I was a good first quest! I would defintiely appreciate any comments/feedback you have for me as well. Quote
