"Ok, thank you for that information. Just a few more things I hope you would help us with.

1.) About how long has this infestation going on, and do you know where the bugs came from. (Aka: did the ants burrow in from a nest in the ground, the spiders scurry down from a web in the attic, etc?)

2.) Is there anything in the building that you have which may aid/hinder our quest? An old weapon, some spare potions, traps to look out for, etc? And would you mind if we used them to assist us under the clause we return them?"

3.) Can you sketch me a map of the building's layout

Edit:

Okay. Let's head to the kitchen! We need to deal with the ants.

"Hold on my esteemed colleague. We need some more information before we blindly charge in. Wait a few more minutes for me to ask a few questions and then I will take you in and you can slash away"

"Hold on just a moment! The shelter only has one door, and who knows what else you may encounter in there..."

"The infestation seemed to start about two weeks ago. Where they originated? None can ever say. No one has entered the Shelter besides some cloaked man working fro the Town Watch, and he hasn't come out yet... Nobody really has a decent read on the place.

Anything in there that isn't food or water, or that we must use, is fair game. If you find any weapons in there, we hovellers have no use for them.

I... can not. I don't know the layout well enough. I can say confidently that it is two stories, with an attic. The place contains two chimneys. The kitchen is on the first floor, the barracks on the second."

Does the party feel prepared?

"Hmm, ok so this may be more a rescue operation than a simple extermination." Darksten says, praying to himself the town watch member wasn't involved in spreading the mutant insects

This town watch member, were you able to talk to him at all and get what his plan with the bugs was? If we could meet up with him, it could greatly reduce the time it takes to do the job and get everyone back inside.

"Also, unless there is anything else you can think of that might be of use, I believe the knight and I best get started"

Darksten turns to the knight and says:

"So here is the plan, when we approach the hovel I want to stop just outside the door and see if I can hear any of those bugs communicating. I've spent years working in the woods and if there is one thing I know, it is that bugs aren't just the mindless creatures everyone thinks they are. We might just be able to get some information from them before we blow our surprise.

"I never saw anyone actually run in. Young Fiona there was the one to clue us in - she was playing in an alley when she saw him going towards the shelter."

"I personally believe its a bunch of-"

"Please, have faith in our child for once..."

RfsEb0r.png

"AAA-heemm. If you're ready, simply proceed down this alley. The shelter lies at the end of it. Best of luck, heroes..."

The party walks down the alley, coming across the shelter:

It was a dilapidated, hastily constructed building. Two chimneys rose from its thatched roof, the entire building emitting an odd odor. The ranger can here soft whispers emanating from the right wing of the old building:

"Would you mind saving me a crumb for once, you glutton?"

"Just snack on that guy the Funnelweb captured."

With that, the area falls silent besides the churning of the gray skies. They throw the door open, and step inside:

The room had three exits: Two on the left, and one on the right. A rickety staircase led up to a small landing, presumably leading to the second floor. A tattered rug was thrown hastily on the floor.

"Alright knight, it sounds like the Town Watch fellow is being held captive. We will have to keep our eyes out for him. From what I can tell, the kitchen might be to the right and there seems to be some activity in there. I think we should go there to secure the food.

First though, if you would be so kind as to join me by this carpet. Move slowly and quietly so as not to disturb anything. I want you to flip the carpet and see if there are any of those smaller bugs under here. We might be able to capture one and get some more information

Darksten slings his crossbow, and removes his hat, holding it in both hands as a makeshift net to pounce on any bugs that might be under the carpet

The two heroes skulk to either ends of the carpet, and gripping each end, flip it over: revealing a small horde of scurrying insects. Darksten scoops up the dozen or so small bugs in his hat, folding up the garment so they couldn't wriggle away.

1/13 Small Bug Hordes found!

For the record, the small bug hordes are completely optional: if you want Fiona's bonus reward, though, you're going to have to find them all.

The bugs scurry and hiss, defiant.

<Unhand us, you awful giant!>

Posted

As Darksten holds the wriggling bag, he begins to click and vibrate in ways he had seen the many bugs on his hunting trips do

"We want to know where the food is. We crave sugar and meat, especially fresh meat." Darksten says hoping they can point the heroes to the kitchen and captured town guard.

"If you could also tell us where your leader is! we would like to pay our respects."

OOC: Copy on the additional quest being optional, but at this level I might as well take every opportunity to profit/grow! Though to be clear, is the objective to find or to kill? I assume kill from her conversation with us. (Also, I apparently can't make this light gray from my mobile device..)

The bugs chitter, before the biggest of the small delivers a reply.

<The kitchen? We're not going to betray that location to you, giant!

Besides, we're, uh... Not exactly set up like you seem to think, Giant. Most bugs gorw up and die in the same room. They never really move around 'round here... We don't know who the leader is. Bunch of big bugs just recently showed up, but besides that...>

"I have seen bugs travel great distances in search of shelter and food, I have seen complex colonies of insects working together under the undisputed rule of a single creature, and I know you know information I need. But if you are going to play dumb, then you are no you are all of no use to me" Darksten says as he begins to squeeze his hat even tighter around the trapped bugs

"We will find the kitchen either way, it is just a matter of whether or not we leave anything for you and your larger friends"

<Honor among insects! We'll never divulge any info!>

With that, Darksten closes the hat on the bugs, unceremoniously crushing them.

Where will the party go next?

"Stupid bugs" Darlsten thinks to himself as he cleans out his hat.

"Well let's get going" Darksten said to the knight as he walked towards the door on the right.

He continued to keep an ear out for any further sounds the bugs may be making

The pair of heroes trudge into the room over, finding another dirty mess of a room.

Gc6OCSb.png

This place atleast seemed livable, with some stools and boxes to sit on...

Posted (edited)

Hoang Anh walks to the boxes blocking the first floor door and check them.

Darksten sighs as the young knight begins to crowd him at the collection of boxes

"Perhaps things might go faster if you check the upstairs trash can?

I will be right here if you need me"

Darksten rifles through the boxes, tearing off their lids and sifting through the contents. Amidst packaged food and other spoils Isaac told them to stay put, the ranger finds some things that'd be quite useful to the heroes:

heroica-potion.jpgheroica-potion.jpgheroica-potion.jpgPotion (Restores 10 health to the target.) x3

heroica-remedy.jpgheroica-remedy.jpgheroica-remedy.jpgRemedy (Removes all negative effects from the target.) x3

How will the spoils be divided?

Hoang stomps up the rickety stairs, and approaches the trashcan. He tips it over, spilling its little contents into its battered lid: []and sure enough, roaches oor out into the mechanical disk. They wriggle and squirm.

Will Hoang crush them, or will he allow Darksten to interrogate them?[/b]

Posted (edited)

Okay, I will let Darksten to interrogate the roaches.

Maybe I should get 1 Potion and 2 Remedies. Darksten will get 2 Potions and 1 Remedy.

As Darksten walks up the stairs after Hoang Anh he throws him two small bottles of the remedy and a bottle of potion

"Now, let's see what we have here..." Darksten said as he knelt next to the pile of bugs so that his shadow fell across them

"Greetings everyone, I regret to inform you that your space has been invaded by a larger species of insects. We are here to settle the score and return the peace. Would you happen to know anything about them that could help us? Or know the location of our missing friend?

Darksten interrogates the skittering roaches.

<Hah! Foolish giant! This shelter's new, huge, residents have formed a truce with the roaches! Our allies - just through that door right there ->

The roaches seem to refer to the door right next to the trash can.

< - will end you!>

Hoang crushes the bugs under his foot, adding a few extra stomps to flatten their thick exoskeletons. After about a half dozen stomps, the bugs are no more.

2/13 Bug Hordes dead!

The party now had some valuable information... A horde of large insects laid just behind this door...

Darksten weighed his options. On one hand he preferred to search for the kitchen on the first floor. However, he had his adversary cornered here and he knew he should take the shot while he can. He unslings his crossbow and prepares for combat

"Alright knight, open the door, and let's get this over with "
