After realizing I had a lot of flat 1x2 green tiles, 1x1 round grey tile, and 1x1 round green plates, and the brown 1x4 tiles, I decided to combine them with track to come up with a nice landscaping around the track instead of just light and dark grey pieces.

Took these pieces...

...and made this. I think it came out nice...for the pieces I had on hand. I am going to Brick Link 1x1 dark grey plates and 1x1 brown tiles to finish the railroad ties on the side of the track to complete the look.

It may just be my computer, but it doesn't seem like OP's URL wants to be embedded. Here's an Imgur mirror:

That's a good idea, OP. I also have hundreds of the same pieces. If I were working with green baseplates, I'd try it out too.

This is almost funny. I was driving by a train track yesterday and I realized that I need to put some white stones around my track. I was trying to figure out the best approach but it looks like you got that nailed for me.

Thanks

Glad to help you out on an idea you were trying to accomplish, marvin ^^^

I'm half-way-done with my 2 switches - it was a challenge; but, it's coming along well. I'll post pictures of those soon. I picked up some more 1x1 light grey round tiles, along with some 1x1 light green bricks, and dark grey 2x2 bricks to finish the look at the PaB wall today.

Looks good so far, have you enough to do the whole track?

I have 3 curves and 8-10 track lengths left to complete the layout with these pieces...I hope I can make it, or else back to the PaB wall. Luckily the store is only 10 mins away.

UPDATED: July 7, 2014

I made more progress on my trackbed; had to pick up more lime green 1x2 plates to finish out a few more sections of track.

Enjoy:

looks great. I have done some of my tracks mostly with greyish colourings, but am going to remove it all so I can build all my bases with one brick height below the building platform so they can be transported as modules.

When I did mine where I added the level crossing I made an automatic rerailer, I have tried most wagons on it and it has put them all back on the railsp7310207r.jpg

Looks really nice. You should take more pictures of your now finished station, it looks amazing!

You gave them a very good use and the final result with the color effect looks beautiful.

That's a clever idea for the re-railer. I noticed on my Red Train if it goes forward it's not an issue; but, when I reverse it, the engine gets caught a few times. I gotta look into something like that so it doesn't de-rail.

Each 32x32 baseplate that has track is modular. I'm making it as modular as I can so it can be expandable.

I'll try posting more pictures of the train station soon once I finish more details on it.
